Have to say that I am not keen on the new layout.
In my opinion the New Forum Posts should at least cover a 24 hour period.
Important or interesting posts can be missed with the new layout.
Do other members have an opinion?

Yes,
I agree with that as well.
I also liked the latest classifieds being shown.
Saves me searching through them all individually.

I enjoy new ideas. If we didn't we wouldn't have electricity, telephones etc
As for the Classifieds it is easy to look through them all one has to do it to look at the date on each category to see when the last activity was
Keep on trying Udonmap

I also agree. More Latest Forum Posts should be listed, even if it means moving the weather and exchange reates
We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now

Another option would be to have another DPLT link taking you to "More Latest Forum Posts"

I rarely look at the main page, but to me, it seems logical that a commercial website (ie one seeking profits) features its paying customers - the sponsors - on the main page.
For those looking for a list of the most recent posts, you have the option of entering the forum via the "View active topics" page:
http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/s ... ive_topics
Just bookmark it, and Bob's ya' uncle.

It took me a while to realize what Jack says above, but ever since I did I use a Bookmark to
http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/s ... d=newposts to go to the forum and pick up where I left off last time.
You might give that a try.
His other point also makes a lot of sense.

That is true. I guess that I am just used to entering on the "Home" level. So maybe time for a change thenjackspratt wrote:you have the option of entering the forum via the "View active topics" page:

I must be missing something!
I've always used this bookmark and gone straight to 'view new posts'. Is this the page the OP is referring too? Don't see any changes.

No BD they are referring to the 'Home' page.

Hi, and thank you all for your input, good and bad!! We were facing a couple of problems. First, sponsors (the ones who pay the bills and make Udon Map possible) were complaining that there were so many banners that they went too far down the page and the ones at the bottom never were viewed. Even with our random sequencing algorithm, they went quite far down the page, well beyond any place a casual reader might look.
Additionally, there were times when I'd see nearly a week of "recent" posts on the front page. Based on your input, we have added back another 10 or 12 posts to the front page. And there is also a facility (see upthread) to go to new posts.
Please let me know if this addresses some of the concerns expressed here.
Thanks!!

While I note, and appreciate, Udonmaps explanation I am not entirely sure of its total validity.
The space which has been 'taken' is being utilised for the purpose of displaying , (relatively) large photos of the front cover pages of TWO of Udonmaps magazines :-" I have always been under the impression Udonmap.com , the aforesaid magazine and the udonmap publication were under the same ownership If so, not clear by what thought process the changes, involving the inserton/placement, of the two aforesaid photos can be considered to be for the benefit of a 'Sponsor". But probably there is an aspect to which I am not privy.
On the marketting aspect also, I respectfully suggest that the sponsors advertisement on the Forum would be of no value whatsoever if there were no members to read them which viewpoint, if accepted as valid, would make convenience of access by members, a consideration of prime importance,( even on a par with that of the sponsors?) in the formulation (set up) of the Forum.
I stress my comments are intended to be rhetorical and of academic interest only, as I neither approve nor disapprove of the changes which have obviously been made, completely understandably, solely in the best commercial interest of Udonmap.
Of course there is always the possible added fun arising from my post that my 'friend by the Park"will be completely unable to resist flexing his intellectual muscles by responding , using his own unique form of logic to refute my observations :-" .

Given that there have been > 220 registered members online since the OP was posted approximately 24 hours ago, and only 6 (or < 3%) have indicated their unhappiness, I don't think it is time for the management to start panicking just yet.
