We want to go to Chang Mai. Flying to BKK then to CM seems a bit redundent, any direct flights from Udon? What about driving? How long would that take and where can I find a reliable directions?
And a decent roadmap?
Chang Mai Trip

I drive the route regularly as my wife is from Lamphun. Its about a twelve hour drive depending on your speed and breaks etc. the route has been improved a lot due to recent construction of new roads on the stretches near Nong Bua Lamphu and east of Dansai. The scenery between Loei and Phitsanulok is incredible. There is a winery along the road east of Loei. It can be a very busy stretch of highway which results in some pretty crazy driving as some thai drivers pass on a whim it seems.

Lee, i've tried to find flights fron Udon online before but was unsuccessfull. Even the link you sent me keeps telling me "sorry no flights avalable".
The drive seems to be on par with the drive from Udon to Hua Hin. I've done that a few times its long but also lots of nice scenery near Sharaburi and again south of BKK.
Not sure if I'm up for it we'll see.
Any more info on the subject would be helpfull.
