Flying Udon to Oz

Post by jackspratt » November 20, 2006, 4:49 pm

This may be of interest to some of you.

I am currently looking at flights to bring my girlfriend and her 7yo son to Perth for a holiday next April.

Researching the available fares on the internet has been quite enlightening, as follows:

Thai Airways Udon - Bangkok - Perth return about TBH56,000 (AUD$2000) .

Using Air Asia or Nok from Udon to Bangkok, and then Thai to Perth, about TBH3,000 cheaper :) .

Singapore Airlines Bangkok - Sing - Perth return, plus Air Asia/Nok Udon to Bangkok, about TBH52,000 :) .

Tiger Air Udon to Singapore return, then Singapore Airlines to Perth and back, TBH37,000  :D .

All the fares are economy for 1 adult plus 1 child. I imagine the last option would work equally well for other Australian cities ex Singapore.

Let's hope the Tiger experiment works over the long term.

 I'm glad the Udon-Sing-Perth works for you.I thought I could avoid Bangkok and save some bucks to the USA by going Udon-Sing-USA!It was alot more expensive than flying Udon-BKK-USA!Don't know why it cost more to fly from BKK than from Sing

When booking flights to Singapore on a budget airline - and then having to take a non-budget airline to the final destination - keep in mind that Singapore has a "budget terminal" that is quite a distance from the regular terminal. Hence, make sure you have enough time to catch your connecting flight.

Regarding fares Udon to Perth and return, I suggest you talk with a Thai Airlines office in Oz as Thai is a member of the Star Alliance which might give you a lower airfare through a combination of member airlines.

I fly Melbourne to Udon and the return fare including tax is around A$1200.

Good question, what airline, guess I should have asked. But did find that China Airlines does fly this route.

Thai are always releasing special fares to Perth - For December they are quoting 21000 Baht. Her childs fare would be 3/4 of that. Keep your eye open for specials, this also applies to the domestic carriers. You will do much better having her buy the tickets here in Thailand than through an Aussie office.
You have plenty of time to shop around.

Sorry forgot to mention, Thai gives special fare discounts to Thai citizens. They also gave me an "over 60" discount for Bkk/Udon/Bkk sector although this domestic ticket was purchased by a friend in Bkk..
