Well mightyvan if that is not
"proud to push the limits "
then exactly what would you call it??

You are also totally incorrect that I would not say exactly the same face to face. I don't bother to hide behind any silly pseudonyms exactly for that reason. I still think that any Falang who deliberately puts himself outside the law deserves all he gets. Whichever way you cut it the guy you mentioned was carrying more than his legal limit. If that is 200 or 600 is pretty academic. I will repeat, if it is zero you do not get a problem..

Well Bob Helm I will give you my advice, a health warning, which definitely is not contained on any cigarette packets. If I was you I certainly wouldn't continue to be as rude as you are to others, and I certainly wouldn't contemplate saying it to their faces either. I find that rude and offensive people always come unstuck one day, and if you go on spouting off like you do then one day you will say it to a far nastier person than myself and unfortunately it will not be pleasant.I have seen this happen so many times to your type. Do you realise that you come across as self righteous, and that you appear to think that you know everything. You simply cannot see it can you ? All I can say is thank goodness not everyone on this forum has the same attitude as you have. Welsh Dragon was right in everything he said. You have an arrogant and self righteous attitude, and you seem to spend a large amount of your time writing quite offensive and bitter remarks about others ? I wonder does it make you feel better about yourself ? Is your ego so deflated that you get off on this ? But anyway I hope you will get over yourself one day. Good luck to you my friend you will need it.

Thank you for your kind wishes, mightyvan.
However with your attitude of seeing scamming officials lurking behind every tree I feel that you will need considerably more good fortune than I to remain enjoying your time in Thailand...

Its okay Bob, they lurk in car parks as stated several times before, not behind the trees !! And don't you worry too much about my ability to remain in Thailand. I think that because I see things here for what they are I will be able to remain here enjoying myself for as long as I wish. I will leave it there and agree to disagree, and despite our different viewpoints I hope you have a long and happy stay here too.

Why are we arguing about this, we all know there are no scams in the land of smiles. Thailand is one wonderful country where everyone loves you and are totally honest in all ways, especially towards farang. They love us and are always trying to find ways to make our life in Thailand better and encourage us to stay and feel totally welcome. This talk of scams is just pure lies.

You are right, there is absolutely, no racism or xenophobic feelings here in this faultless blissful amazing country. There has never been a single lie told in the bars, absolutely no cheating, and not one corrupt policeman exists here. Not one bar lady has had more than one foreigner sending her sponsorship money, and not one ferrang has lost the house he bought in a Thai ladies name only to find she secretly had a Thai boyfriend all the while who moved into his free home afterwards. Buffalo do get sick a lot, and there is a genuine need for thousands of baht when this occurs every other week. Nobody in the Internet cafes is really sending out sob stories to unexpected foreigners every week, and taking a cut, and all the stories that circulate about gem scams, taxis ripping newbies off, Jet ski scamming, wrong change scamming, and dual pricing well - how could anybody think such a thing about such a perfect country, with such lovely people. Its beyond me too. Totally not true and unbelievable !! Just the same as you shouldn't believe malicious and bitter stories about those angelic customs officers at Non Khai, who would not dream of ripping a ferrang off, or of lurking in the car park waiting for he/her to carry someone elses duty free allowance. It really is amazing, amazing Thailand is correct. Its amazing that its so corrupt that you cant even run a successful business here, and its amazing that so many cheat and scam, and despite it being so widespread at all levels nobody does anything about it !!! Welcome to Thailand, the truly amazing Land of Scams !!!!!

Yes indeed & on the other hand ALL Falang are law abiding saints who would never break a law.
So any Falang caught breaking a law must automatically be the victim of a scam.
He should immediately be allowed to go on his way with an apology from a high ranking officer for causing him problems..

It is well known in Falang countries that they cannot be held responsible for anything.
It is always someone else's fault but theirs..'

Depends what you buy Barney...
Can buy local SEA cigarettes (like L&M) there for about 350 a carton - so 35 baht a packet of 20. Similar in 7/11 here are about the 59 baht a packet.
The better, internationally known brands are about the 500 baht a carton..

Ex smoker but I always bring some back for friends that still do.. :D

Are you trying to suggest then Bob that every Ferrang that is scammed in this place must have been committing a criminal offence, or is a criminal ? Oh I forgot that you believe that all Thai people are faultless, and would never think of committing an offence themselves in scamming innocent people. The flip side to the coin of your last comment is that in your eyes its clearly never the Thai scamming at fault, and the blame should no doubt be Ferrangs for coming to Thailand in the first place ! Do you know that they even say that when a car accident occurs - its Ferrangs fault since if he/she had not come to Thailand the accident would never have occurred. I bet you would agree with that one too ??

It is also "well known" in Thailand that so many scams have gone on for years and years without the perpetrators being arrested and stopped. Just look at the jet ski scams of Pattaya to give just one example. In Thailand its also "well known" that corruption and scamming Ferrangs is widespread, and its also "well known"that these organised criminals who's criminal offences in terms of monetary crime values, pave an additional box of cigarettes into insignificance. Its also known that these more major criminals/scammers seem to enjoy immunity from prosecution because there criminal enterprises, and scamming activities are protected through a hell of a lot of corrupt and high ranking people. But heh, it's us Ferrang that get what we deserve because, we must all be the real criminals. As I said earlier we have brought it upon ourselves for coming here in the first place, and any scam or crime here must be down to us - our fault that its happened to us because if we had not come here it would not have happened. We should all stay at home in the West where it is so unbearably socialist and liberal that we are allowed to get away with all of our wrong doings !!!!

I was even asked recently if I would fund the purchase of a buffalo for 65,000 baht by a very close relative of the Thai family I stay with. A few weeks after politely declining I found out that the same relative, had purchased the same buffalo for just 20,000 baht !! But no, don't listen to me, because I am no doubt the real criminal, and this guy couldn't possibly of been trying to cream off an additional 45,000 baht above the real purchase price. It must have been his agency fee, handling fee, his commission payment, or maybe his introduction fee - all legitimate 100 percent of course Bob!!! Hang on though I have got it - it must have represented his compensation fee from the seller, for having to deal with such a criminal as me !!!

Martysnowman, if you read the forum comments properly throughout you will see that it is not me that is suggesting that any or many Ferrangs are criminals, or implying that it is only criminals that get scammed here. So really when your telling people to wind their necks in you should really address your posts to Bob Helm. The time which I have been on your forum is also irrelevant since I have lived in Thailand in Udon, not Pattaya as you suggest, for many years, and feel that I am as well qualified as you to be able to post comments here. You can see from reading this topics history that what I have had to say on here, has been supported by the comments of many long standing Udonmap forum members too. So if you don't like what I have to say then that's just too bad.

I hate scammers, not all Thai people Martysnowman, I am married to a Thai lady, and have many Thai friends. I am at home, I live here. Thailand is my home. So sadly I wont be going anywhere. If you don't like it when I respond to comments which appear to be defending scamming, then I suggest politely that you simply read an alternative topic in the forums, or don't read what I have to say. I have not told you to "go home" which is very rude, and how do you know that it would make everybody happy ? If you don't value my contribution to this forum, then why don't you just ban me from it ? Maybe you need to learn to become more tolerant of others points of view, even if they differ to your own.

This is the one (above) that irritated me upon reading it. Days later, I still find it offensive in terms of what you imply.

As suggested by others, your opinion is one thing, but in your personal attacks, you are taking it too far.

Please refrain from any further "calling out" of members you previously debated.

The statement above was followed by at least 1 more instance of this name dropping.
So really when your telling people to wind their necks in you should really address your posts to XXXX Name Redacted XXXXX.
It's well understood debates get overheated from time to time. Time for this one to cool down some.

Hi Martyn, Thank you very much for your nicely worded, and kind message, and I want to assure you that I don't bare you or anyone on here any malice. I know that at times this debate has got quite heated and that everyone has strong and different opinions, which I do respect. I am sorry that I cannot send you this response via a private message, as I have not been a member long enough to have that functionality. I am not a drinker, but I appreciate your kind invite to join you for a beer. I will let you know when I am next in Udon City. Best regards, Mightyvan

redwolf, I was cross at the time that was written because my friend was called greedy, and labelled as dishonest by an earlier post. My friend is not a dishonest person, and had been misled by the shop at Laos selling the cigarettes as to the quantity he could bring back, as explained in my original post. In the calm light of day now I can understand why you find my comments offensive too, and I should not have retaliated with further personal attacks, as I appreciate that this does not benefit the forum. I can be a man here, and therefore I apologize for my remarks to you and to xxxxxxx and I will refrain from name dropping.
