Apparently, the Land transportation office in AEK hospital offers one stop service. 1 yr license, 1 to 5 and 5yr renewals can be done here. Vehicle registration and international vehicles permits also. Click on photo for operating hours and phone number.

Sure beats going 20km's out of town to do the same! I renewed in December......friendly service. But note that the required video is only shown at certain times during the day:

Another thing, you're sent upstairs for a medical and it cost 300bt (got this from a friend who went for his 1yr lic.). No idea if they accept medical chits from other clinics.

These are good posts. Informative, current, and without malice toward anyone. Thanks!
Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, hit 'em with the one they don't expect, and just keep hitting.

When I renewed my license in late Nov, I didn't need a medical certificate. Had they told me I needed one, I'd have walked a few hundred meters up the road and got one from the nearby clinic for ?100? Baht.

Goes to show how experiences vary when dealing with government bureaucracy here.parrot wrote:When I renewed my license in late Nov, I didn't need a medical certificate. Had they told me I needed one, I'd have walked a few hundred meters up the road and got one from the nearby clinic for ?100? Baht.

Seems arbitrary. My "medical certificate" cost 5 baht and the woman behind the desk hardly even looked up at me. had no problems at all with the AEK transport office.

Never in my 3 licences have I had to produce a medical certificate, All dealt with in Udon professionally.
I not Papa , the International Driving Permit, that would mean they issue this based on your current Thai licence as Thailand are a signature to the treaty.
So effectively , u could apply for one, using your Thai licence and then drive with that back in your home country ( subject to them also being a signatory )

Re: Land Transportation Office, AEK Hosp.
Thai DL retest and reissue can be done at their new office inside Central Plaza. Mrs tam renewed hers there end of last year. You need to make an appointment using their app. Sorry that I can't give a link to the app or a specific location but maybe some other member, currently in Udon and not too crowd-averse could check?

Chances are the AEK location can give you more details. Upstairs at the Highway 2 main office, they were all about pushing people to get the app and do it at Central. Sounded like it was the preferred method with big signs and notices telling the locals how to do it.
