Well, it was International Day in Bubba's today. Englanders, Scots, Czech Republic, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Thais, AND a couple of Americans.;) Really great fun... old friends, new faces, and plenty of world problem solving chatter. Dean, you sober yet?

BBQ Pulled Pork (fresh batch out this AM) has been flyin' out the door. With our already popular BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, PLUS the 2,500 calorie, according to 747man (I didn't count) MEMPHIS BBQ BURGER, our production processes have been severely taxed!

Being BORN AND RAISED in MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (one of the BIG 3 BBQ centers of the USA), I have just a tad of knowledge about what REAL BBQ is like. In fact, instead of a beer fest (with all it's possible legal entanglements) maybe Udon Thani should have a BBQ cook off, with business establishments and any private home cookers eligible to join in. If a "double blind" system of judging could be formed... I'm ALL IN.

Many inquiries about Songkran. Still working on what will be available, food wise. Menu and opening times to follow soon. Stay tuned.

Footnote: IMHO, the "Big 3" centers of BBQ in the USA are (in no particular order) Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis. South Carolinians don't flame me, I just don't personally like mustard based bbq, sorry.

First things first. I'm pleased to announce that the katoy featured in last year's video of Songkran at our place will be returning this year. He/she is a friend of a friend of Jun from Nong Khai. If you can't tell which one is the katoy, you're not alone, as more than one gentleman was quite embarrassed when told of the facts. Especially since he confessed to having already had several fantasy sessions in his mind.

Our server/waitresses/water girls this year:

Our Songkran hours are:

SUNDAY, MONDAY, AND TUESDAY 11AM - 6PM

Limited food items available, see attached menu, which also contains a couple drink specials.

WEDNESDAY, 16 APRIL, CLOSED

We'll need that day to repair the damages, restock, and recuperate!

For us, Songkran is just good clean fun. People who drink are encouraged NOT to drive. Some of our friends have booked rooms in local hotels for a night, or two. If you despise Sonkran or have any negative thoughts about it, I created a thread just for you: http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/t ... 33460.html PLEASE post your comments there, NOT on our thread. THANK YOU!

Reminder: Today is the last day to get one of our MEMPHIS BBQ BURGERS!

I do agree with your "Big 3" choice. Even within those there are differences in the way BBQ is prepared and cooked. Texass, for instance, could be divided into regions, even mini-regions when it comes to preparing and cooking BBQ. Speaking of mustard, have you ever tried a mustard based batter for fried catfish? With a spicy mustard it isn't at all bad, but I still prefer Southern Fried Catfish with Cajun seasoning, wet or dry batter, deep or pan fried.

Sausage Gravy and BISCUIT are available thanks to Dean, aka "papafarang". He did NOT make the sausage gravy! For those who have NOT tried some of our southern US specialties, and cannot understand why we are so proud of them... why not give them a taste first, BEFORE you make your sarcastic remarks? Happy Songkran!!!

IMO this would be a pointless exercise. Customers return to an establishment through their personal experiences and returns and results speak for themselves. As any Chef/Cook knows, food, be it a barbecue or other dish, is not only about tastes and textures, but an intricate part of any food is presentation. I for one want to know if I'm eating good looking food or something fit to be served from a 'trotters' trough so count me out of any "double blind" cook off. Leave things as they are. Call me a tw*t if you want, but I would rather Gordon Ramsay called me that than someone who doesn't know what they are really doing. A bit off topic this, but I think relevant to any "cook off".My own unbiased view by the way from a Rangers fan - best man at my Celtic fan's wedding and likewise me at his if you know about the devide between the two. Just to emphasise that I'm neutral, unprejudiced, even minded, impartial, and detached (not deranged - well not yet anyway.

Somebody fell and hit their head. Hey, presentation? WTF? Do you want naked waitresses, I think Jun might have just a little disagreement with that. Oh, you mean hi-so places? Thank you, I'll eat good food from the trough any day rather than that pretty crap they call food served at so-called upper class restaurants. I'm a peasant, and damn proud of it. And the food at Bubba's is presented just fine, tastes even better. If one does not know of what they speak, it is usually best to keep one's mouth shut.

I didn't open my mouth but would if I wanted to. I actually typed it on a keyboard and even a damn proud peasant would realise that. Me - I'm from a working class background and also proud of it. I ate Haggis Tatties and Neeps for years but if it was bunged on a plate willy nilly I'd more likely throw it at someone's moosh than eat it.
