i wood like to wish Steve and mali all the very best with there new venture in the Irish clock having known them for 7 years I am sure they will provide a friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy the very excellent food which i and many others have enjoyed over the years
it was a good day in the new year 2000 when i walked into there bar the original steves bar round the corner from complex
he.s a constant is Steve a good egg and very good person to run a bar
to the guy who as a gripe if you have not met steve and mali go again order your meal

The Irish Clock really is the nicest bar in town with regards to set up and decor. It could easily be the best if they were to work on their food and beer (and prices?). It definately has a lot of potential. especially with the demise of falang alley (when will that happen????).

Richmond Steak House has more customers and it's only down the road.

I think one of the problems is that the doors on the Irish Clock are far too big and heavy.

This is the Breakfast i had this morning at The Irish Clock.

Image

It was The 150 baht one, underneath the Bacon was 2 large sausages,includes... 2 eggs, Beans, Mushrooms,Tomatoes,it came with 2 slices of toast, and a Large Mug of Tea, The wife had the smaller one 100baht ,1 sausage and 1 egg less, still with toast and tea/coffee,i thought it very good and recommend it, there was only me the wife and the little one in a buggy in there but someone turned up as we were finnishing, steve and the girls greeted us upon arrival, nice and cool inside with big TV on with yesterdays uk footy on, the menu looked good, Sunday roast 170 baht sounds a deal to me will be trying that soon, surroundings were very nice, the breakfast was plenty big enough and gets a thumbs up from me.
managed the .."heavy"..doors with a buggy no problem too.

was going to mention hxjohns promotional offer but did'nt :)

Thanks BM for the review, that's Breakfast and the Sunday Roast sorted when I come out in Jan. By the look of that platter you can't go wrong for 150baht.

Back in the old days the only place you could get baked beans was Bangkok or Pattaya, I used to bring out a couple of tins for a mate . Back then "Shirtlifters" were very expensive.

How things have changed :D

Holiday feeds?

Christmas lunch at the irish clock put me down for 2
Is this Christmas lunch buffet style or one plate? How much is it?
I personally don't mind paying a little more for a buffet. I know one bar in town is offering up Christmas dinner at 495 baht per plate. IMO, holiday dinners, just aren't holiday dinners, if one can't go back for seconds.

well i forgot to mention earlier that the Baked Beans were superb even the wife commented on them better than we have back in uk, slightly larger in circumferance and more tastier too (she said), don't know what tin they came out of but they where excellent. Incidently Black pudding was available for 20 bahts, but i can live with-out it so did'nt try it.
will pop in again in the week.

might even stick the bill on hxjohns tab. :D

150 Baht for a large English breakfast is pretty good (and looks nice too).

For those of you who are tourists here that's about just over two quid - so not bad really.

As for me 150 baht is an hour's pay. As for my girlfriend, that's a day's pay (if she's lucky)

You are lucky Beer Monkey. I have left my sobriety and a hell of a lot of money with Steve over the years and he never gave me a damned thing back.

:) Six of us had dinner at The Irish Clock tonight! It was my first time to formally meet Steve and Mali!
I can say without any hesitation, that all six meals were thoroughly enjoyed. They were actually superb in presentation, flavor and portion size!

Steve and Mali, were by far the best hosts I ever ever encountered in Thailand!Non-obtrusive,pleasent,personable without the slighest hint of ''hustle''!
I actually got the feeling that they were honestly interested in satisfying us as customers!
The prices are high in comparison to other venues,BUT,I left their feeling I got my moneys worth!Something I have seldom felt in Thailand!

The only type person that I can imagine not having a good experience at this venue,is the person that was looking or expecting ''cheap''!

If he could change his desire to ''value'',he would be pleasantly fulfilled!

My 4 recommendations for ''value'', in Udon, for food are them, the night market,Chareon Grand Hotel buffet and Deiters .In that order! :) :)
