I remember the 'loo' was the lav,

And the bogey man came in the night,

Going "out there" with no light.


The interesting items we perused,

From the newspapers cut into squares,

And hung on a peg in the loo,

It took little to keep us amused.


The clothes were boiled in the wash house,

With plenty of rich foamy suds

But the ironing seemed never ending

As Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'.


I remember the slap on my backside,

And the taste of soap if I swore

Anorexia and diets weren't heard of

And we hadn't much choice what we wore.


Do you think that bruised our ego?

Or our initiative was destroyed?

We ate what was put on the table

And I think life was better enjoyed.

You're on a roll today stattointhailand. That's the argument that life is getting better. It's probably pretty much correct if you have enough food and can occasionally pay to see a doctor.

If they didn't park their car in the only available spot (assuming it was that when they arrived) , what would you like them to do, stay at home and leave the bar or restaurant shut

Stattointhailand, I'm speaking in particular about a few eateries near my home where there is customer parking directly in front of the shophouse, and every time I plan to eat there the owner and her employees are parked in the only spaces for her restaurant, so I don't stop there. There is parking available further away from the restaurant, so in my mind the owner should be parking there and walking to her store and leave her customer parking for the customers. That's what we do back in the States. Why should I put myself out and walk the distance when the owner has such low regard for the convenience of her customers? It's the principle of the matter that ticks me off! And believe me...this happens all over Thailand. It's that stupid "me first" attitude that is so prevalent here; and in the long run it cost them business. Then they sit around all day with their fingers in the noses wondering where all the customers are.

My pet hate is going to Nutty Park to eat and finding the car park full. I used to go and park somewhere else and walk back, but all too often I found the complex almost empty of customers, so the car park was not being used by customers. As the owners obviously didn't care enough to get it sorted, I don't care enough now ..... like you, I drive off and go somewhere else (smilee with shrugging shoulders required)

The downfall of many businesses in Udon will be the lack of parking. Landmark many be nice but the lack of parking is hurting many of the business. (Yes, there is a parking area but its crap and I avoid using it) The owner should work with TMB and BKK Bank to access their parking areas in the evenings Central is also in need of another parking structure. I know there are work arounds but that should not be needed. The shophouse design needs to go.

When visitors come to my home, they have to park under our santol trees. And if it's santol season, they risk having a santol or two or three fall down onto their car. It's the risk they take for parking here.
I park our truck in the shade and safety of my carport.
It seems so logical to me.
You can apply the restaurant-owner logic to nearly every legal parking space on Phosri or Srisuk Rd. The owners park their vehicles in front of their shops, and if they should go out for a spell, their workers will cart over a bike or motorbike to fill the space until the owner returns. Customers are left to fend for themselves. Scientists have discovered that certain Asian-dominant genes, not normally found in westerners, cause this behavior. It's often linked with the same genes that inflict the horrible carry-an-open-umbrella-when-it's-not-raining disease, or worse, the I'm-30-years-old-but-love-to-paste-Hello-Kitty-stickers-all-over-my-(vehicle)body. There is no known cure for either illness.
I believe there are equally defective western genes......one being the assumption that a parking space in front of a shophouse is a customer parking space disease. 220v/110v

Or the I'm to lazy to look for a space and walk, so I will double park and forget to unlock the gears

Same same at school drop off and pick up time - they have to stop right outside the doors to let the carpet slugs out and everyone behind, including me on my motorbike like many parents waiting to park is inconvenienced. I'm sure if the doors were wide enough an attempt would be made to park inside. Just look at the Big C car park (old one) and when it's half empty instead of parking a few spaces away they will drive around until they see someone near the doors leaving in their car. Hardly susprising that there appears to be more lard arse locals now.

We used to NOT park our car in front of our business, but we quickly saw that when we didn't, the employees from the computer shop next door would park their cars/trucks there. At least we have the nice paved parking lot at the end of the building built by Charoensri Park that goes mostly unused now.
