It would be great for our young guys, minus the talisman Cahill, to get a result against the Spanish who must be shattered after their dismal showing so far.
Now were out I can focus on me second team the mighty red devils and I would love to see them progress and play the arch enemy dutchees at some stage. I'm sure they will give them a nice old touch up.
And finally Tim Cahill - simply a legend. It's been a pleasure watching you in the green and gold.

France and Belgium do not seem to be anything special so far. If the Germans are to advance deep into the tournament, they need to figure out Italy or avoid playing them as they always seem to come up short against the Italians.

All bow to Luis....

The game has not been lost yet. If Italy does its part and wins their final two games by big scores, England has a shot. However, this would mean that England would have to beat Costa Rica, and that might be a task beyond their capability.

Invisible until he headed onto the bar with the goal gaping from less than two yards. Needs to take a lesson on finishing from Cahill. Maybe the stitched in 'Barnet' had something to do with it.

Superb display again by Woys Rankers.

Why didn't he bring Andy Carroll on in either game ..... oh yeah he didn't take my advise and select him in case we needed to chase a game .... OR TWO

I must say that I thought the coach that broke his ankle celebrating the goal in the first match, has still made more of an impact than Wellbeck has managed in two games :-k

England 1 Uruguay 2....If England showed promise in the defeat against Italy there was little to be optimistic about in this performance ! :( Once again the centre of defence was found lacking which enabled Suarez to get his brace of goals.Left back,Leighton Baines, has been mediocre in both games as well.
The plan to move Rooney inside, with Sterling and Welbeck,on the flanks didnt work either.Although Rooney scored,he also headed against the bar from two yards out and hardly took the game by the scruff of the neck.Sterling struggled to make an impact on the right wing instead of playing in his much more effective position inside behind the main striker.Welbeck is not a left winger. If you play him out wide it has to be on the right. He was anonymous last night and, surely,Woy should have given Oxlade-Chamberlain a run out on the left side.
Technically England are not yet out but they are 90% on their way.I hope in the last game against Costa Rica,Woy gives a start to Celtic keeper,Fraser Forster,Shaw,Barkley and Oxlade-Chamberlain but if they still have a very slight chance of progression I fear it will be more of the same again.
Colombia 2 Ivory Coast 1......Colombia qualify for the knockout stages and have done very well despite missing star striker Falcao.
Japan 0 Greece 0.....Japan couldnt find a way to score against a bearded Greek XI who had captain Konstantinos Katsouranis sent off. (TV commentators must have been hoping Socrates Papastathopoulous would get a red card as well 8) ).Second half was mostly all Japan but both teams looking likely to face elimination.

Tonights/tomorrow mornings games......Thai times

Italy v Costa Rica,11pm Friday night
Switzerland v France,2am Saturday morning
Honduras v Ecuador,5am Saturday morning
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

England's chances very slim...

England need Italy to win their remaining group games against Costa Rica and Uruguay to stay in the tournament.

Roy Hodgson's side then need to beat Costa Rica in their final group game.

England, Uruguay and Costa Rica would then each be on three points and qualification would be decided on goal difference.

But the statistics are not on England's side as no team has ever lost their opening two games at a World Cup and progressed from the group.

Back page of "The Sun" today says England need a miracle now. Unfortunately the only one that does miracles these days is from Uruguay. We're doomed.

Well DM stayed up and watched the game ...England were poor and Uruquay deserved their victory . As predicted before a ball was kicked in anger looks very much like they can share the plane home with the Spaniards .

Will Woy stay on as coach? ... will Rooney ever play well for England ?... when does qualification start for Euro 2016..?

No more 2am/5am starts for me anymore ... will just take in the 11pm games from now on .

As for the tournament winners ... i would like to see a European nation win it Holland , Belgium , France Italy all have a shout ....... ANYONE except Brazil yawn, Argentina :badteeth: or Germany =; .

I know it goes against the grain but I thought that England were holding their own fairly well although in two crucial areas they lacked strength and they paid the price, the need for a first rate central defender was obvious but the lack of an outright attacking forward killed them and in the end they were outclassed.

Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing but given the teams England would face in the group round I thought the exclusion of Andy Carroll was a mistake and that without a world class central defender they would struggle.

England were poor but don't need to make plans to head to the the airport just yet. Not impossible to go through.

Got the late mail today,

Dark horse down the outside is the USA. Will make the quarters. See how they perform in the last group match against zee Germans.

White horse with the rails run is the dyke pluggers. Because on form they have the brightest shirts.

Still hold out hope for the English but the whip has already been used to far out from home and they are waiting for a fall.
