Philippine Islands?

Post by Carlos » December 19, 2006, 12:05 pm

Following on a bit from the "More farangs being targetted...", what do you members have to say about living in the PI?

I have also had a look around there, mainly Subic/Olongapo, Manila, Cebu/Bohol...seems cheaper in some ways but the infrastructure not as developed (?) as in Thailand.

With the visa screws being tightened here in Thailand, as well as the growing discontentment in many areas for farangs..I wonder just where to finally settle down..!

I hear that the Philippine government is bankrkupt and on the verge of collapse and the insurgency on Mindanao makes the problems in Thailand's South look like a picnic. It you like danger and suspense, then I guess PI would be the place to go. It makes Thailand seem very tame by comparison.

I'll plead ignorance, there's a stretch, but just the happy news articles and image I get isn't exactly farang friendlier than Thailand, worst I believe. That and the weather, had a few typhoons already this year, and every year, which is what kept me out of florida, caribbean and parts of mexico. So far Thailand is if for myself, if i was to change, it would require laos, cambodia or vietnam to upgrade just a bit, or I'd head back to states. But I'm home, if I had citizenship and USA didn't have social security, I might hand that blue book back in as mentioned in another thread, I doubt if I'm going anywhere else. But I'll hang on to it, haven't lost my senses yet, still trust no gov't to do anything they say, so it's handy to have, just in case.
