Thanks, Gus, I KNEW someone would pick up on this! Jim (Chicago) and I were having a discussion yesterday on what commercial this phrase came from. I was wrong, thinking it was Chef Boy-Ar-Dee, and would have bet money until we looked it up. Thanks for the video link from a day when commercials were tastefully done (no pun intended) and more creative.
Anyway, the Italian Meatball Sub sandwich is DELICIOUS. Available until 9PM today. Go to previous page for photo.
Just a handful of Kwak Belgian Beers remain and are DISCOUNT PRICED.
Come join us!

Dennis, I think you already know how I feel about VA benefits and 'congress'. With the exception of a very few, fire the lot of them, the White House, and especially the religious wacko corporate owned 'gang of 5'. Keep GitMo open for those that truly belong there.
Ah, not going into why I don't eat grits again...lol. If I ever wake up with a truck I'll try to get in for one of your great, but over sized breakfasts.

Thanks to all who came to celebrate the 4th yesterday. Sorry for the delays, but Murphy's Law was in full force. In addition to our regular customers we were serving the bridge game going on next door. Ran out of cooking gas with about a dozen people waiting for food. However, one of the amazing things about living here is a phone call gets a replacement cylinder delivered in about 15 minutes (day or night, 7 days a week!). Also ran out of sub rolls, but again, Papafarang was kind enough to deliver a couple dozen more in a matter of minutes. Good refreshments and good conversation made the time whiz by and I think in the end everyone was happy.
Didn't have time to post yesterday, but Jun's good friend, Tuk, is in Luxembourg and I'm not sure if it was intended or just coincidence, but she visited the American Memorial Cemetery there on the 4th, which of course was decorated for the occasion.
Closing 8PM Today and CLOSED TOMORROW, SUNDAY.

The graves of brothers Quentin Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., sons of President Theodore Roosevelt, lying side by side in Normandy, France.

About the oldest Teddy Roosevelt son, he may have been a politician etc. but with the Marine Raiders he was a stand up dude.
Military career[edit]

Roosevelt as a lieutenant colonel in World War II
In October 1939, after World War II broke out in Europe, Roosevelt resigned the lieutenant colonel's commission he had been given in 1936, and was instead commissioned as a captain in the Marine Corps Reserve. In November 1940, he went on active duty.
In April 1941, President Roosevelt sent his son on a secret, world-circling diplomatic mission to assure numerous governments that the United States would soon be in the war. James met, among others, Chiang Kai-shek, individual Farouk of Egypt, and individual George of Greece. During this trip, James came under German air attack in both Crete and in Iraq. In the African/Middle Eastern portion of the mission, he travelled with Britain's Lord Mountbatten as far as Bathurst in the Gambia. They reported on trans-African air ferry conditions, an important concern of FDR and Winston Churchill at the time.[7] [8]
In August 1941, he joined the staff of William J. Donovan, Coordinator of Information, with the job of working out the exchange of information with other agencies.[1]
After Japan's Attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt requested assignment to combat duty. He transferred to the Marine Raiders, the Marines' commando force, and became second-in-command of the 2nd Raider Battalion under Evans Carlson whom Roosevelt knew when Carlson commanded the marine detachment at the Warm Springs, Georgia residence of Franklin Roosevelt. His influence helped win presidential backing for the Raiders, who were opposed by Marine traditionalists.
Despite occasionally debilitating health problems, Roosevelt served with the 2nd Raiders at Midway, and in the Makin Island raid, where he was awarded the Navy Cross. He was given command of the new 4th Raiders, but was invalided in February 1943. He served in various staff positions during the rest of the war. In November 1943, he accompanied Army troops in the invasion of Makin, and was awarded the Silver Star by the Army. He was released from active duty in October 1945, with rank of colonel. He continued in the Marine Corps Reserve, and retired on October 1, 1959 as a brigadier general.[8]
Roosevelt suffered from flat feet, and while other Marines were required to wear boots, he was allowed to wear sneakers.[9]
Decorations[edit]
James Roosevelt received several military awards during his USMC career. Here is his ribbon bar:

Sorry for the long post, It wasn't when I copied and the ribbon bar and others didn't come through. From all accounts, he didn't get those medals from being a "VIP".

sgt, Nice post about another great American Soldier, but I think James was the son of Franklin Roosevelt, not Teddy Roosevelt. Here is a link about Teddy Jr and his landing on D Day

Back from our long weekend in Chiang Khan. Can't say I was overly impressed. I don't think I saw anything you wouldn't see at any other village on the river (like Nong Khai). Well, a few hills in the background. Did not find it pricey either, as I've seen on other posts. We stayed right on walking street, almost in the exact middle on the corner of soi 10. Our room was clean, air conditioned, and only 500 baht per night. More later.
Anyway, back to business.
Come join us!
