You do not need a yellow book for any immigration extension.
A yellow book is not required to open a bank account or pay bills.

It's of no use in obtaining a driver's license. It's useless. I would advise any member considering jumping through the hoops to obtain a yellow book to reconsider. It's simply not worth it.
What load of nonsense. Immigration always ask for my yellow book on renewals and then proceed, quickly, no need to visit immigration for letters of residence for vehicles in your name and driving licence renewals, a very useful document. always opens doors for me!

I showed my YHB to the Immigration officer twice on my last two extensions (based on marriage). it was returned to me right on the spot as not needed (no use).

If you are not married a yellow house book might be helpful. If married really no need for it, the house is already in the wife's name might as well put the car in her name also.(especially when they were giving 100,000 baht rebate to first time buyer).

I've never been asked for a yellow house book when reporting or for any other business in the past 20 years and don't know any one who has except for BossHogg69. And I have never seen it listed any where as being required. If it makes one feel important to have one, so be it. When they make it mandatory then I will go get one.

There was issues about the yellow book in past years, some said you required it some didn't. It is a mute point, however with more and more changes to Immigration law and the validation mof addresses, it seems to me that should you have ayellow book for the house etc you are residing in then it would go some way to alleviating address problems.

I have always copies for my visa renewals, it has never been returned and always accepted, likewise for D/L renewals and also the occasional bank requirements.

As it is in fact so easy to obtain and never needs renewing unless of course you move then it is a small price to pay for attempting to comply with some of their administrative systems. It is one of those things that may not be needed but like life insurance you should really have it, even though it may not do you one iota of good .

Those that feel it is a silly thing , up to you , but on one occasion when dealing with the Police on a small matter regarding the house, the fact that I had a yellow Book, made them realise I was not just a tourist, that was of course a few years ago when they were rare, but I always have it to hand on Official Thai Govt Business (Immigration/Tax/Business ) sort of makes you a permanent resident ( which it doesn't in reality ) but shows the Govt Agencies that you at least try.

From dealing with Thai bureaucrats its evident that there's a good many that would have no idea of what a Yellow Book could or could not do for a Farang possessing one.. But, the fact that you do have it would put an "official" stamp on you being here that could sway things in your favor.. As mentioned, get it or not.. However, its not particularly difficult to get one and depending upon who you process the request may or may not cost you tea money.. So, if you're here long term, why not?
