Barber Shops

Post by Isaanman » November 24, 2014, 6:17 am

There is a barber shop on Wattananuwong Road, near the corner of Adunlayadet just before the red light. Mind you, I have gotten good hair cuts there. Now they have a price for Thai's, 100 baht, and farangs, 150 baht. They have lost my business and pissed of the wife. She took the membership card and tore it up, telling them we won't return. Funny, all the barbers telling the 150 baht is for farangs only. Good things is, I found another close to home here, the hair cut is only 70 baht and just as good too.

Plenty of barbers around town charging 60 with fan or 80 with aircon, couple near Napalai hotel if anyone interested.Never paid 150 baht, maybe only if I was a hairy farang :-k
Still shave at home, not trusting enough with a Thai barber, maybe dual pricing also :-k as some lasses like to go for a shave also \:D/

I know this place well. The owner has a chain of shops around town. I went there for cuts for over a year, but seems like every third time I returned my regular barber was no longer there. My favorite barber left and when questioned about where he had gone I was told that he went back to his village to open his own shop. I phoned the guy and he had moved just up the street and opened a shop, so I have been going to him ever since. I pay 70 baht for a great cut in an air-conditioned shop.

This is just one more benefit of living out in the boonies. I have two barbers. If one is busy I go to the other one. Both of them charge 30 baht. I always give a tip of 10 baht. The haircut including the tip is 40 baht. No air con but decent ceiling fans. :D

a 3/8 inch spacer on the electric clippers and I do it myself, then have the wife shave my neck.. costs me nothing.... Of course, I don't have much hair on my head so its really not worth going to the barber shop!

The-monk, I am attaching a map here with the location indicated by a red arrow. Coming from Udon Dutsadi Rd turn east at the traffic light in front of Udon Christian School. Follow my map and look for a new bright orange building with shop houses on the ground floor. You can't miss it and there is parking beside his building. His barber shop is easy to spot and there is also a beauty shop right next door for your wife/gf. His name is Sit and his number is 080-461-4360. The shop has A/C and he charges 80 baht (sorry, not 70 my wife tells me) and I usually give him a 10 baht tip, although no tip is necessary since he owns the shop and works for himself. I have never seen the Thais tip him. He is very meticulous, takes his time and does a great job. He finishes off with a razor cut on the neck and around and on the ears. He also has a TV and good free Wi-Fi. Enjoy!

Don’t worry about tomorrow. Today is terrifying enough.
I never forget a face, but in your case I can do an exception.

I like using the beauty salon on Soi Sampan run by the Lady Boy. Talk about a Full Montey haircut!

Remember Barber has been 90 baht......probably since the beginning of the year. I had a favorite barber there.....but he moved on and the other barbers were a crapshot.

It's true that there's not much left on the top but what there is there still needs to be cut.

My young son and I have been going there since it opened a few years ago. Last Saturday we both went, my son was in the chair getting his hair cut when I noticed the new dual pricing signs. The owner was there so I asked him about it and yeah, falangs will pay 150 but my son will still get the Thai student price of 60. I told him he had just lost two customers, he just shrugged, turned a little red and headed to the back room. We left when son was finished. Guess he's doing so well that he won't mind me taking our heads and business elsewhere...

Only takes one of the "I've got plenty of money and don't care how I waste it, it's my choice" farang to go in there and he's covered the loss of you taking your trade elsewhere ........ get another one who doesn't see the sign until too late and he's quids in

I'm curious.....is the sign in English........does it actually say "Foreigner/Westerner"? I'd take my business elsewhere if that's the case.......but besides a few national parks, I've never seen a price sign differentiate between Thais and non-Thais.

I've never seen a price sign differentiate between Thais and non-Thais.
I've not noticed that either but I've heard/seen people complain that certain restaurants providing separate Thai and English menus would sometimes have higher prices in the ones printed in English than for equal dishes in the Thai menu.

Sorry for drifting a bit off topic. :-#
