Arrival at which Udon Bus Station ?

Post by scooter » January 8, 2007, 6:34 am

Short & sweet -
I see on the map that there are 3 bus stations in and around Udon - Central bus station, Western bus station and Northern bus station.

Anyone knows where the bus from Bangkok stops ?
Anyone knows where the bus from Pattaya stops ?

Thanks

Most buses from Bangkok will stop at the central bus station. The western bus terminal is used mainly for westward bound destinations such as Loei and Chiang Mai. The Northern bus terminal is used mainly for shorter trips north such as Nong Khai, Sri Chiang Mai etc.

Most bus company

We have been confused with this one before. Some Nong Khai buses (I think the AC and faster ones) use the main central/in town bus station, and some (I think the slower local stopping) buses use the bus station near Tesco.

I hope I have answered my own question! :?

Thanks Doc! But you try meeting someone at the right bus station. They invariably arrive at the other one!

OR, if you take someone to one bus station, to catch a bus to NK, you can be sure you will be told that you have to go to the other one!!

That's only because the bus station operators are working together in a conspiracy against you Arjay.

I never have a problem. I just avoid the places. Makes my life rather enjoyable.

Most buses from Bangkok and Pattaya come via Khon Kaen and therefore trundle down tahan road past the wing 23 air force camp and Rajabhat University before heading into town. You can get off just about anywhere along this route into town - just yell at the driver or go stand at the front.

Whooo !
All very confusing, specially as we don't know the town, which makes it difficult to WHEN to yell at the driver to get off. Still, thanks for the replies

You'll know when your at the central bus station because the bus will stop and everyone will get off.

Aah...presuming the bus DOES stop at the Central bus station - and not at one of the other bus stations.

No problem, there are plenty of taxis around at all three bus stations, just ask one of them to take you to the city center. ;)

407 also has an office at the central bus station in addition to Prajak road.

Coming from Bangkok the staff should come around the bus asking where everyone wants to be let off. Of course, they might not ask a lone farang as they probably can't speak English and will assume a farang can't speak Thai.

And 407 is the worst air bus service I've ever taken in Thailand. Take Chan tour.

I believe Paul recommended Chan Tour a while back. My GF has since used them and had no complaints. They use a double decker. :)

Yes, Chan Tour has double decker buses with 3 seats per row not 4 and less rows than 407. Some other companies are similar but the names escape me at the moment. I think prices are the same.

Chan Tour has a wing like logo which would be easy for non-Thai readers to spot at the bus station in Bangkok.

407 also stops more often and for longer so the trips to/from Bangkok take longer.
