Sounds good. I presume it's run as part of the Khon Khaen Full Marathon (42.195km)?
Any details yet about the Udon Thani Marathon 2015 ?
This was the week before KK.

Race Day : Sunday, January 25, 2015

Half Marathon (21.10 km): 05.25 a.m.

Walk & Fun Run (4.5 km): 08.00 a.m.

If you are competing I would certainly consider registering before January 1st as it becomes more expensive as the month goes on.
http://www.khonkaenmarathon.com

I believe that the Udon Marathon/Half Marathon/Mini Marathon is provisionally scheduled for 18th January 2015.
Udon is notoriously poor for advertising its road races but you can register the day before at Nong Prajak.
If I hear a definite date I'll post it on the forum.

Other local road races coming up.....
Saturday 29th November : Pangkorn 10k (on the road to Sakon Nakhon). from Baan Pangkorn school 6am ??
Telephone 0862236606 for details.

Sunday 7th December : Wang Saphung Quarter Marathon (10.5k) from Wang Saphung Municipality 6am ??
On the road to Loei.Telephone 0899414430 for details.

I've done a few road races this year but I'm currently sidelined with a bronchial chest infection. :(
Hope to be back next year.
One of the best races I did was the Nakhon Phanom 11k a couple of weeks ago.You run out and back over the Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge as part of the course.....also a Half Marathon (21k) and Fun Run (4.1k) ......over 2000 entrants overall.
Heres a scenic pic of the Nakhon Phanom race, courtesy of forrunnersmag http://www.forrunnersmag.com (lists loads of races across Thailand)

Seen Zid training around both Nong Sim and Nong Prajak and for his age he certainly is spritely ...well done .

I myself will be doing a half marathon in January ... followed by a full Twix in Feb a Mars bar and Kit Kat in March ... then ending the season with a curly wurly in April ...onnee kidding Zid....just a slippery one back for all the stick you give me over Scunny FC , wish i could jog , work out etc ....... i couldnt run a TAP !! ... or then again.

My lad just came home dripping , tells me him and his mate just done 5 laps of Nong Prjak ... how far is that round per lap ? ... he is 14 tho not 50 ....i would struggle to do that on a motorbike without getting out of breath.

Nong Prajak is approx 5 metres short of 2 miles (3195 metres,if you include the bit with the steps and across the car park).
So Sonny has done 10 miles, all but a few metres,so well done to him ! =D>
Theres a few foreigners who run around Nong Prajak,Nong Sim and Nong Bua now.
Charles,a Kenyan, who runs not far short of 20 miles a day for 6 days a week ! He wins a lot of races around here.I saw him at Nakhon Phanom a couple of weeks back and he said his next race could be a half marathon in Penang where the winner gets 50k baht up.....nice money if you can get it.
The Africans dominate the road running scene here in Thailand.
Earnest can also be seen running around Nong Bua and there are reports that Bob Helm has been seen sprinting up the steps to The Bookhouse ! 8)

Thanks Zid, for the Dates of various races around the region.
The only race I've done since moving up here after 13 years in Bangkok (where we used to race quite a bit) was the Udon Thani 10km as part of the Marathon. I really enjoyed the race. There were also a couple of Thai mates who came up from my old BKK group based at Suan Som Dej, in Nontahburi. I'm trying to get them to join this year's race, but (as you say) seeing they are not good at either confirming, or promoting the event, it's a bit hard to get people to come all this way.

Found these pics on the internet of last years Khon Kaen races......looks to be quite a big event.

Khon Kaen 4.5k fun run January 2014.jpg
Still no word on the Udon races, believed to be 18th January from Nong Prajak. If that is the date they need to start publicising the race as its only two and a half weeks off.

I've entered the Khon Kaen race,Earnest, but still no definite news on the Udon race.
If it is the week before KK,I'd probably do it as a hard training run.....well,hard for me not the younger guys ! ;)
Difficult to say my miling time cos'all the races I've done are in kilometres....10.5k,11.0k,11.5k,11.8k,12.0k :-k but I'd say around 4.40 minutes per kilometre.
Next time you are in Udon on one of your occassional visits, you want to consider doing a race.
I was surprised at the number of races there actually are...eg.check out http://www.runthailand.com to see what races there were in 2014.

Ooh, good find!

4-40 km per minute? That's about a 7-35 MM, isn't it? You can clap as you lap me around Nong Prajak...give me a bit of encouragement as I wheeze and fart around the park.

I'll be back in February as I've been asked to cut the ribbon to open my wife's new housing estate in the metropolis. We could probably grab a run then?

February 16th 2014 there was apparently a 5k and 10.5k,start and finish races at Nong Prajak (Udon Thani Private Education Mini Marathon)......I never knew about it.
If its held this year it should be February 15th ?? This could be your big chance ! :D

Failing that we could do a run around Nong Prajak ourselves but beware as standards have improved dramatically......including..
A Kenyan guy called Charles does laps in 11 minutes and, actually, wins races over here.
An American guy called Mike who runs around Nong Prajak barefoot.
A young lady from Rajabhat University who wins all the womens races and can do a lap in under 14-30.

You have been warned :-"

Hi Dave,Happy New Year to you too.
No,I've heard nothing about the Udon race yet and theres nothing on the internet.
The wife will be going to Nong Prajak later in the week so I'll get her to ask some of the runners there if theyve heard anything.
As well as the big Khon Kaen races on the 25th January theres a few races on the 11th in the region.....
Dansai Anti Drug 10k (Loei)
Mukdahan Marathon and 10k
Nongphok Mini Marathon 11.5k (Roi Et)

Also on the 18th,3rd Bua Nguen Mini Marathon 11.5k (near Khon Kaen)

In fact, plenty of races advertised....apart from Udon :(

Thanks Zidane. Any info will be much appreciated.
I've asked my Thai running friends, but as most of them live in Bangkok/Nonthaburi, they have to rely on the same internet news such as Jog & Joy, Run Thailand and so on. The bush telegraph doesn't seem to extend too far into the Issan region. Although, they do know about Khon Khaen.
In the meantime, guess I'll keep training around Nong Bua, Nong Sai, Nong Na lam and be ready!

Khon Khaen 12th Semi Marathon 25th January 2105

Post by Zidane » January 22, 2015, 12:32 pm

Just a reminder that the Khon Kaen road races take place this Sunday,25th January.
Marathon start : 4.15am
Half Marathon start : 5.25am
Mini Marathon (11.55k) start : 6.00am
Fun Run and Walk (4.5km) start : 8.00am

Theres a pre-race expo at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre at Khon Kaen University between 10am to 7pm on 23-24 January where runners can register and pick up their race pack with number, microchip etc.
No registration on race day 25th January.
Over 5,000 runners entered from around 40 countries. Its one of Thailands "big 5" road race events.
On race day free shuttle buses will ferry competitors to the start at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre and back into town again afterwards.Pick up points include the Pullman,Kosa and Roma hotels.

One thing to note, its also the Khon Kaen Agricultural Fair at the same time at Khon Kaen University so traffic is likely to be horrendous. If you are in the vicinity of the town centre/university maybe best to use saamlaws to get you around.
