Easy within one day - start early.

You might need to change the bus in Udon Thani. Travelling from Phitsanuloke will take about 7 to 8 hrs and costs between 150 and 250 TBT. From Udon Thani you have hourly connections to Nong Khai; for the 80 kms it might take between 60 to 80 mins and costs you between 40 and 70 TBT.

Price / time pending on bus cathegory. The blue VIP is the fastest and more expensive. Between Udon Thani and Nong Khai it doesn’t really matter but I found the VIP bus sometimes more comfortable and less expensive. This is Thailand.

Thanks a lot for the fast answer. :)
When do blue VIP buses start in Phitsanoluk?
I'm arriving from Chiang Mai by train at 14:30 or so and would appreciate to stay a night in P.As far as I know it's better to make a reservation for the bus.And where do the buses start? :?:

well, at first, yiu are never sure about the arrival time of trains. train jorneys start on time from chiang maior bangkok, thats it. afternoon is nice, stay somewhere and have a look at wat chai and others, the city is nice. usually there are several busses, some might leaeve during late evening, book as soon as you can. if you short on cash or time you can sleep on the bus while travelling all the night. from 6 or 6 in the morning onwards busses will leave from Udon Thani to Nong Khai. There are two bus stations. The bus from Phitsanuloke will stop at the central bus station from where you can get connection to Nong Khai.
