Cable - in fact it is fibre to the home, something that the Australian government believes it needs to build itself...

True now coming to our house to take down their Dish and install cable which will enable Australia Plus to be received. They have to measure the cable required but apparently over 50 metres I have to pay. That will be interesting. I am thinking the better option maybe is to pay 139 usd for AFL Live streaming which gets you all the AFL matches for the year.Even if True can get me Australia Plus now I am considering putting AFL Live Streaming anyway which then assures me I will be able to see the games of my choice.

Good luck with the True and Streaming

I all but died in 2005, listening to JJJ in Saudi Arabia, When the Swans were up with 10 seconds to go and Leaping Leo took the mark of the year ( IMO ) , but had to wait 9 seconds for the podcast to reboot, longest 9 secs of my life.

I have found another possible satellite, used by Oz+ for their India service.

http://www.lyngsat.com/Insat-4B.html

About the only channel of interest - to me at least - is Oz+.

A bit more investigation is required, and hopefully if it does check-out, the blooody ABC doesn't encrypt the signal.

That's what we've got and it's a good deal.
The internet speed varies a bit (still faster than in Oz), but the TV is very good.

We will still move the dish to get the satellite feed as well.
Then my wife can watch her favourite lakorn and I can watch the footy at the same time.
More, one never knows what might happen to communications in Thailand - like in 2006.
It was only by turning on the ABC-TV we knew there was a coup.

Jack, friendly question, If the ABC do not encrypt the signal, can you explain why TRUE can. Is it not Julie Bishop who is responsible for this, cutting costs? There are so many other Countries still receiving the signal WHY not Thailand with so many Expats living here?

I am no expert, DU, but I have gathered a bit of information from my research.

The signal from a satellite can be free to air (FTA), which as the name implies, is free, and can be picked up by you set top box.

The signal provider (eg ABC/Australia+) can also encrypt the signal, which means (generally) you have to pay to watch. For the past few weeks, the Oz+ signal on satellite IS-20 was FTA, but they have now encrypted it.

I am not sure where True Cable is getting its feed from, but these are the satellites that Oz+ uses in Asia:

http://www.lyngsat.com/tvchannels/au/Au ... -Asia.html

It also has a Pacific service, using these satellites:

http://www.lyngsat.com/tvchannels/au/Au ... cific.html

and India, using:

http://www.lyngsat.com/tvchannels/au/Au ... India.html

This shows Insat-4B as currently FTA, and the satellite seems to have a good footprint in Thailand.

You can see from the colour coding which are FTA, and encrypted, on the various other satellites.

I am sure others with more knowledge can add, or correct, as required.

As far as cost cutting, is seems to have been a purely political decision, and an act revengeful bastardry, by Tony and his incompetent cronies. Bishop probably cops the flak because the Oz+ budget previously came out of her Dept Foreign Affairs.

Thanks Jack, fully understand. You would think that Home Cable would want Aust. + to be back as so many people have come to expect to have news from home and associated programmes of interest to not only Aussies but to many others who have become a regular viewer. Maybe their reluctant to pay. I, like many others want to see the Football, so there are other alternatives available. Today I will go to Infosat with my Zimple Decoder Box 3 and start proceedings for installations. I will have to buy the Satellite Dish. This system is a lot cheaper than the Streaming. Only the initial lower payment, then there is no ongoing subscription. DU

Do you plan to install the dish yourself ?
Please let us know how it goes.
As I wrote earlier, the guy who installed our dish when Australia Network and Australia+ were on Intelsat 19, had trouble finding Intelsat 18. We are still waiting for him to return with a solution.

So now we have True Visions cable on 'my TV' with AUS+, but I still need to find a solution for the TV in the living room, mostly used my wife watching Thai channels.
Does anybody know
. whether True charges monthly fees for a 2nd box, and how much it is?
. or if I go down the route of free TV how much roughly a satellite dish and set-top box would be? And who would install these?

Many thanks!

Dave I suspect you will have extreme difficulty in locating IS-18 in Udon province - unless you live on top of a mountain. :D

According to Satbeams coverage maps ( http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?beam=6260 ) (use the Global or North Hemi map) the satellite would be at 3.5 degrees elevation from here ie 3.5 degrees above the horizon.

You would also require a 2 to 2.5 metre dish.

Thanks for the info Jack.
We are on top of what might pass for a hill. I know it's a "hill", every day when I finish my run around the farmlands in our area and run back up! However, I fear as there are 2 very big/high trees behind us, which caused a problem when placing the dish on the block, you might be right.
Size is not a problem.
Lucky for now I've got it on True.

PSI does a cheap setup, Dish - Top Box, for a one off 800 odd Baht. Dedicated to Thai TV and 27 other channels full of soap operas and their stupid games shows. Should keep you TW entertained forever!

Bandung, if the guy who put up our dish is able find the Intelsat 18 satellite and as a result we have Australia+ that way, as well, I'll let you know. Can't remember the exact price but, we think the box was about about THB800 and the dish and installation was a bit over THB2,000.

Abbott is a lying swine. I have written numerous letters and sent many emails to various ministers and got the standard stock reply. The emasculation of radio Australia is another example of the policies of this appalling government.

Today I went to Infosat to find out if they could install Australia+ Unfortunately they set up a Dish but could not find any connection. The IS-18 Satellite coordinate of 180*E made available by Australia Plus could not be found. Surely if TRUE can get it,why cant Home Cable?

Will keep my fingers crossed 1. Our "hill" is high enough and 2. he can find it.
The dish is not a problem it's 2.5 metres

Today I stopped the True Salesman as he drove through my Village asked him how True have Australia Plus and Home Cable don't. He told me that True had paid for the License to use. Then is it a fact that Home Cable just have not paid for the connection. Not being one to mess about I have taken out a package with True which has an Internet and T.V. deal for B 1199 per month. I expect to pay a further B 100 vat tax. D.U.

Was this a "special offer" ie is there expiry period (say 6 months), after which the package price goes up?
