Address Proof for Driver License

Post by sabaiking » February 21, 2015, 1:10 pm

Hi folks,

I want to make a driver license in Udon Thani. I have a Non-O visa. I know that I need some kind of address certificate. How I can get this without any hassle?

I have an expired 1 year temporary driver license. It has been expired october 2013. Will this be somehow useful? Maybe to avoid to make the driving test again and straight on get the 5 year driving license?

Regards,

if you ask at a driving school they will have a so called "laid back and enjoy" full service package.
they will do the paperwork for you. all you do is lay back and pay.
just ask around.

Wow nothing like promoting a little extra corruption; as if there isn't enough already. Why not just go and do it the legal way? Get your address certification from your embassy or immigration and follow the link in Parrot's posting.

This is the route my wife has taken to get her car driving license. +$100.
It's all wrong really, but the Thais don't think so. They've got a valid driving license and that's that.

OT................. \:D/

So following government rules will avoid corruption? nice to know but hard to believe. dream on.....

BTW - Why you consider the customer service of a driving school "promoting corruption" and "illegal"?
they do the service and you pay for the service. what's wrong with that?

How about .... Coz people who have no right to have a license and be on the road, are allowed on the road to cause accidents for those who are legitimately there?

try to download a lease agreement in Thai and have someone with a housebook, Thai ID or passport sign it, copies with signatures are needed (all 3 items), then go to immigration for the papers to apply for a license.

you need a passport size photo for immigration, and a copy of your passport and visa stamp

Ok thanks. This will probably my move next Monday. But is a lease agreement really necessary? I live together with my GF in her house. She is also the mother of my child. I am holding a Non-O spouse visa. Can she just testify that I live over there or do I really need to do a "lease agreement"? I am asking because actually this would be kind of faking a document :-k

your name needs to be on their house book or its no go, then you have to get a lease agreement in Thai.

Doesn't it looks kind of strange when my girlfriend and mother of my child rent her own house where also many other family members are registered to me?!

That would makes officially look like a fool  I rent a house of someone which belongs to him already only to live with him inside

You don't understand the problem.
1. Of course You can go to Udon Immigration and ask for a certificate of residence - which You need for the driving licence.
It will cost you just 500 Baht.
2. But while attempting to issue such an certificate they will surely notice that Your girlfriend did not register You at her house within 24 hours - something Udon Immigration wants to see happening witn all new arrivals.
3. This being the reason for him suggesting to create a lease agreement on short term notice.
4. Fines for not registering within the province after staying there over 24 hours are 5.000 Baht and beyond.
Please wear suitable clothing when attending a concert in Udon Thani. Slacks and short-sleeved shirts are ok, shorts, tank tops or muscle shirts are not.

Having just got my driving licences with proof of address from Udon immigration. They do not ask for you to register your address. I asked my wife to ask the answer was "no need" possibly they did it as part of the process of getting the certificates. ฿500 no receipt available. They did not even have any forms left in the box for them.
Don't forget that you need 1 photo for each form + 1 for their records. And if you want a car and motorcycle licence you need 2 forms

I obtained a proof of residence to renew my 5 year license from immigration a year ago for free after I refused to pay them 500B. This is supposed to be a free service from immigration. They asked me for 500B I asked for a receipt and was told no receipt available. I refused to pay and my my wife and I asked to speak to the supervisor. End result was there really is no fee according to the head man. They are asking for donation of 500B to buy lunch for the interns and cut the cue to obtain the residence certificate quicker LOL. We told them we're in no rush and you can come to see us at our house any time they want. They scheduled an appointment for 3 days later. I picked up the residence certificate the following day at no cost. If I pay them money I expect to receive a receipt in return.
