My wife and I popped in yesterday, we were amazed at the variety of foods on offer on the menu and really took a long while to choose, eventually I settled for three dishes which were all delicious but I must mention the panang curry was excellent, possibly the best I have ever had .How you can produce such high quality for such a ridicurously low price is amazing .Must mention a warning about parking on the premises, you have to reverse out into a busy road, which is quite dangerous . Maybe a mirror might help.

I also stopped by for lunch yesterday......had a spicy stir fry pork with herbs, rice, icy-lemon, and cup of hot coffee to polish things off. The stir fry was excellent....nice blend of ginger, red chili, green pepper corns, and other herbs. I'll be back for more.

Thanks so very much Trubrit for the kind words, Chef Nooy was very happy to hear your opinion of the Panang Curry. It was great to see you and the wife in.

-And an excellent idea regarding the mirror to assist drivers in backing out onto Soi 6. Hadn't thought of a solution but the mirror seems like a good start. It shall be in place soon.

And thanks Parrot for the review ref. the Stir Fry, -it's good to see those who when ordering it "spicy" get it exactly as they requested. I think that dish and some others are going to be my training wheels for switching to a lot more Thai fare. But maybe "ha sip percent pet" 50% เผ็ด for me :D

Post by Diary-Udon » February 21, 2015, 2:32 am

Hello Udon Thani,

Fridays always more of a dinner crowd & tonight was no exception. Week 3, and we're seeing that word's getting out. Lots of new customers coming in from all around Udon now.

Our menu range offering THAI and WESTERN food, with good flavor, at great prices, is working out VERY well.

Today's Food Pic: Stir Fried Chicken with Garlic Sauce just 60THB and VERY tasty!

And for those who read Thai (or can get their wife/girlfriend to read it), a FREE Watermelon or Kiwi or Mango Passionfruit smoothie OR Cuppa Coffee or TEA for the first one to translate the below (relates to the pic):

อากาศเย็นๆแบบนี้ รับข้าวพะแนงร้อนๆหอมๆซักจานมั้ยค้าาาาาาาาา

aaaaand a MAP since this thread is now on Page 2. We are on Soi 6 Udondutsadi right outside of Gomen City Estates, just past White Elephant Resort and before Soi Baan Laot.

Hi d1gromet,

Sorry to have missed you Friday, and yes, we're closed Sundays.

I took the time to visit http://gps-coordinates.net and processed our parking lot coordinates as:

DMS (Dgrees, Minutes, Seconds):
N 17° 25' 20.486"
E 102° 47' 46.608"

Decimal Degrees:
Latitude : 17.422357 | Longitude : 102.79628

There's a building across the street from us painted bright Orange, we have green awnings, etc.

See you in soon! :D

Bravo Samuel, -one FREE smoothie for you compliments of the house. Just let me know when you might be coming in so the staff are aware of the deal. :D

It's very close, this one is more accurate:
BEST MOST ACCURATE STREET VIEW LINK
https://www.google.co.th/maps/@17.42242 ... !2e0?hl=en

It shows back before we did a LOT of construction, pretty fast I might add. It's an excellent "before" picture my wife will get a kick out of.

For those without a fast PC w/ a lot of RAM that might not be able to render Google Street View, here's the pic. of our location as copied & saved in JPG pic format from Google Street View.

And, I guess we will have to wait for their car to pass us again, as the place now looks like:
DIARY-RESTAURANT-AFTER.jpg
DIARY-RESTAURANT-AFTER-2.jpg
AND to help a little with orientation, if you were driving down Soi 6 toward Nong Sim Lake, just past Gomen City Estates entrance, right as you get to our place you'd see the Orange building across from our parking entrance:

AND if you were driving the other direction, toward White Elephant Resort or Udon Christian School, you'd see:

AAAAND if you were at today's Udon Expats Club presentation, RAVENS FACS would maybe see it like this?

To all whom may have some input, we are now considering a change to the HOURS / DAYS open.

Due to POPULAR demand, we are seriously considering opening on SUNDAY and closing on MONDAY instead.

We are also considering staying open LATER, e.g. till 9:30PM vs closing at 8:00PM.

Plenty of visitors coming for dinner so it's an easy decision to stay open later but what do you think about the MONDAY closed vs. SUNDAY open?

If open Sunday we also consider that we'll likely offer some kind of Brunch Special.

I vote for open Sunday, close Monday. No opinion on staying open later, but would it make sense to open earlier for breakfast?

We had dinner at the Diary last night, 4 adults and 4 kids. Food was very nice and well presented, kids enjoyed their food and of course the ice cream. Will certainly make a return visit.

SO MANY thanks for that Trubrit, it was great to have you in again.

Since the time we have been open, I have yet to taste the Panang. So tomorrow will have one for sure. :D

Chef Nooy reads the reviews every night & it gives her that much more inspiration to keep going as she has been. For a Chef the usual proof of customer satisfaction = plates coming back empty. It's a great indicator, but she truly & sincerely appreciates the very kind words. :D :D

IMPORTANT NEWS:

New Hours are: Open TUESDAYS - SUNDAYS 10AM - 9PM, CLOSED MONDAYS.

OPEN this Sunday March 1, CLOSED Monday March 2, OPEN Tuesday - Sunday 10AM -9PM as mentioned above.

Ah that's good news TB, -we have been running quite a few hot plates of fresh home-cooked style food out the door to the neighbouring businesses that are sprouting up all along Soi 6. :D

We are happy to deliver it if they like. :D Same regarding takeaway, can be called in or submitted during initial order. Chef knows to start prep of takeaway food right as on-table dining is almost finished. This assures a nice, hot/warm[er] meal for those taking it home.

Ref Delivery:

Proper high quality delivery containers are en-route from Bangkok. Local ones were just not suitable, leaky & such & food flavour gone after a few minutes. The ones from the supplier in BKK are modelled after the Japanese style ones that have better sub-compartments, sealing, etc.

So if anyone's interested, we are genuinely committed to getting you quality food at affordable prices, suitable to Thai and Western (and Kid!) pallettes, DELIVERED within the Ring Road via our Food Delivery contact. The charge is 59THB.

We finally figured out why the Food Delivery guy was reticent to become a UM Sponsor or sponsor on any "foreigner" community print or otherwise, -he can't speak English. He's not daft, -he doesn't want to screw up orders, so he implored us to take the ones given to us by English speakers.

He is perfectly OK with Thai-spoken or typed orders. I'd paste his website here but he is not a Sponsor and he asked us specifically not to. Feel free to PM us for it.

Word has it the software program LINE actually does a good job at translation. I have yet to see that in action but perhaps you have?

Here's the LINE app link: http://line.me/en/

SO, if you want food delivered, feel free to use our LINE account, and order in English or Thai. Our account name is: dandelionzinnia (we might change this to diaryudon later)

OR, during business hours, call in the order on our Land Line: 042-241-471 English and Thai. If a waitress answers in Thai, no worries, she'll connect you with an English speaker. If you hear her say "Bapp Diow Na Kaa" that means "just a moment, thanks..." \:D/

NEW HOURS REITERATED:

Open TUESDAYS - SUNDAYS 10AM - 9PM, CLOSED MONDAYS.

OPEN this Sunday March 1, CLOSED Monday March 2, OPEN Tuesday - Sunday 10AM -9PM as mentioned above.

For the remainder of this week, including Tomorrow Thursday Feb 26 - Saturday Feb 28 still on our previous schedule 9AM - 8PM.
