It's only the final that counts although anyone beating Aussie at cricket wants to throw a few raspberries and I'm throwing them ... \:D/

My brother was going to the game with his Mrs. and their 8 year old son and almost 5 year old daughter. He didn't expect the kids to last the whole game. He'll be annoyed if he had to leave before the glorious six over long on in a low over game. That six will be well worth watching on youtube many many times ... Well, OK for a Kiwi.

The Aussies were dominated for most of the match but at the end of the day lost by just one wicket as the Kiwis finished in the most unconvincing fashion imaginable.

England 309-6 after 50 overs.....a surprisingly good score !
Root made an excellent 121 and a cameo 39 not out by Buttler off 19 balls at the end. =D>
But Sri Lanka currently 40-0 off 7.4 overs.....will Englands total be enough ?

I don't think many Aussie posters will be in this thread today Zids. The fur is flying in the udonmap Aussie politics thread as the Aussie PM gets ever closer to being shown the door by his caucus.

I'm about to go to the gym. I hope the game will be evenly balanced when I return.

Oh,are they blaming Tony Abbott for yesterdays defeat ? :|
How must Scottish Rugby Union fans be feeling today ?
Sri Lanka 69-0 off 12.4 overs.....ominous for England ?

Hope the gym was good for your health.
I don't live in aussie any more, well I hope it stays that way, and have given up reading the aussie political post as it is to myself any way boring and predictable in all responses (so better to leave any comment reflecting politics to that post thank you) unlike the Aussie / kiwi game which unfortunately I could not watch but followed on my iphone with updates, it certainly seemed to live up to the hype, really well done to the Kiwi's this time at least. :^o
It is difficult to give a hoot about the tournament with so many non international standard games and the footy season upon us, but, the idea is to give every one a go. I think it is the last time all teams will play together as a world cup tournament?
After a long long summer of cricket it will be the Aussies to win in a canter in the final??????

Sri Lanka 242 for 1. England's nightmare continues.

The non-traditional teams are getting a lot of attention barney. I think they need some encouragement although I can understand how fans from the best test nations might not be so interested in them.

Sri Lanka 312-1 (47.2 overs) won by 9 wickets.....ah,well. :(
Thirimanne 139* Sangakkara 117*

All too easy.....hopefully England can give Afghanistan and Bangladesh a closer game before they go home.

Pic of the day from yesterday - taken after the 9th Kiwi wicket fell. Doing the social media rounds here. The cross Tasman banter alive and well :D
Poor old Poms. Just watched Sangakkara (117 from 86) put of a wonderful display along with his junior partner Thirimanne (139 from 143). I think I might just have Sangakkara in front of McCullum and DeVilliers as the best batsmen at the world cup, he is certainly the most graceful and classy player around in world cricket at the moment.

Yes the choking gesture to the crowd is getting some coverage in NZ. Maxwell was obviously confident the game was Australia's. He was just doing his bit so that this Aussie team could live up to Australia's long established international reputation as hardmen. :D

Obvious he may just have been returning the gracious compliments he must have been getting from the educated kiwi crowd. :-"

Or more accurately

As the shadows in the photo show he was advising the dressing shed he needed a cravat for the closing stages of that cold cold place Auckland.

Yes seeing a well paid and full of himself Aussie cricketer over the fence doesn't bring out the best in many Kiwis. He was probably only giving as good as he was getting.

Yes, Auckland is probably a bit cold in February even for a Victorian such as Maxwell. The sandgroper players probably had their thermal underwear on as the high was only 25 celsius yesterday.

"A strip club has received a slap on the wrist for an ambush marketing stunt during Saturday's epic Cricket World Cup clash in Auckland.":

The stunt must been aimed at our Aussie guests as an Auckland man would have to be a bit dim not to know something of these places ...

Just in case jack has mistakenly posted a photo of an Aussie stripper, I thought I'd provide a link to a Kiwi stripper:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=11412896

The lucky stripper wasn't facing a hanging judge. There is however a sentence in the link that suggests this stripper didn't do a full monty.
