MY house build to begin.
Vivid memories of a guy in Hobart years ago, who tried to pour his own footings for an internal subteraean room, walking backwards down a plank, with a barrow of cement. Sir Issac Newton and velocity caught up with him and threw him off the plank, empaling himself on an unguarded piece of reo rod. Right through his right groin, Right Femoral Artery, Vein and Nerve all shot !
My footings were poured in July and I was worried about the rain, didnt seem to worry too much ...

the thing that I tried to you do with my build was end up with a clean finish..
I dont like the way the plumbing can be in Thailand, and the way the blue piping can be higgley piggley, and make a building look ugly..
same with the electrical wiring inside a house. Where a wall ends up having 5 strands of wiring coming down smack dab in the middle of your eyesight, or just in the place you want to hang a picture..
I tried to instill this into my Foreman missus, but she went overboard and cut the concrete blocks and inserted the pipes and and some wiring, and cemented over them, now we cant repair if need be..anyway done my rag over that..but it has given us a clean looking walls...just something to think about Barney

I remember chasing brick and concrete walls as a young apprentice sparky to put the conduits in walls for the wiring. Throw some cement over it and the renderer did the rest. If you only have wires in the wall, problem maybe later?
I really don't like the idea of the blue water lines inside my wall, glued joints to me ain't the way to go for a lasting non leak joint.
Any one used a plumber with copper pipe in Udon?
I will have the metal Bluescope steel wall frames and roof trusses, so everything will be in the wall frames. Once the wall frames and roof are in position then I can have the sparky rough in the wiring and the plumber install water pipes in the wall. My house is elevated and all water plumbing into and drainage/sewer out will be through the floor and piped under the house. Well that's the theory.

So do I. Told it was a waterproof system? I am not there at the moment, but have a person project managing his install and can only go on what he has told me. There are 2 rooms under, 1 pool pump/filter room and the other a disco.

Yes reinforced concrete every where. Piling was designed to incorporate reinforced floors and walls. It is my design and a architect completed with real plans. A load bearing study was done to the house design. Actually Bluescope steel designers engineered and advised what load design in the concrete was required. It shouldn't fall down until I fall off the perch.

Thanks wazza kick a man while he's down. Blues are still in a 20 year rebuild. Coach may go soon?
Will have conduit in walls where required for elctrics, sound system, security etc and future stages to be built.

They will need something like 'Sika swell' in the joint between floor and wall, you only get one chance!

Probably a stupid post as many of mine can be.
Looking at all that clay. Few bags of gypsum when u know where the garden might go.

Back on the subject and photos of the underground room:
The land from the house area to the fenceline doesn't appear to grade much (if any) away from the house. If I were going to put in an underground room in Thailand, I'd want to be sure all the rain water drains well away from my house......and that the fence isn't going to hold that moisture. You don't want to build the house prepared for the 200-250mm of rain that might fall each month during rainy season.......rather, you want to build it in anticipation of the 300+mm that might fall in one night every 10 years or so. Even with a good build, you might want to take extra precautions with your electrical work in that underground room.
Good luck with the build!

The pool and underground room will raise above the finished ground level by the height of the piles, about 800mm. The ceiling of the underground room will be the floor of the kitchen. Which is also the height of the pool water. Meaning the finished house and concrete deck level is same as top of the pool.
Drainage for wet season is in the plan. I also have to install a 10,000 ltr fibreglass underground rain water tank to catch storm water much as possible.

Barney,
For the underground room, will you be putting any kind of moisture barrier on the exterior of the outside walls. I know here in U.S. now they have a black barrier material that can be applied to all exterior underground walls. Some are spray on others are some kind of rubberized material glued to exterior before fill dirt is replaced.

I am unfortunately not in country for another 12 days so can't provide you a direct answer. The pool "expert", that's why he was chosen, is providing the pool and underground room as part of his scope. We discussed the water proofing and I was assured it will have a water proofing layer. He advises he has done resort pools and rooms ( I saw photos of his previous projects) and he has a method? Exactly what this is I cannot tell now. As others have mentioned it is a one only attempt and for me not being there is a risk I had to take.
I will post some photos shortly on how the progress is. Going very fast at the moment. Then you will see that the external forming wall is blocks and then formwork will be installed internally before placing the concrete for the actual wall.

Leveling complete under the house proper, and, now the thin concrete slab being installed on the ground. Wanted it nice and clean under the house. Also the missus won't get to dirty when she has to go under for any maintenance work.
Bottom of house slab will start at the top height of the piers. About the same height as the compressor for a A/C split unit.
Termite spray was done.

House is 23.5 x 15.5 mtrs, including pool 8 x 4
Large roof overhang covering front and back verandah's and engineered not to require supporting posts on the corners.
I don't have drawings to show the dimension.
