This case is turning into an interesting read

The Rich Chinese families, may have " Influenced the prosecutor " and he has now been dropped and the media all over this Samui case - just another one.

Definately not an Island you wish to visit if you fall foul of the law, or other criminal elements perhaps

One of the biggest problems about Thailand is money can buy anything, the other problem is most people don't have the money.

The Trial is under way. A typical shambles. First they say they lost all the DNA evidence, and now after it was reported in the Foreign Press they changed their minds and found it again. What a mess .... http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/crime/6 ... a-not-lost

this could be interesting, uk found different results ? you can't have conflicting results with DNA. I was reading also yesterday, you can only get DNA from the root of hairs, hair itself cannot give DNA , it's like the condom, has her DNA on it but they say the found no other DNA on it. as for the cigarette butts, all they prove is someone smoked it, not that someone murdered someone . the guys said they went to the beach every night . then there is the hoe , it might have one of their DNA on it, and possibly DNA from many other people on it as these tools are used by everyone on a building site/ farm. cameras show one of them buying beer 6 hours earlier and from what has been said they drank beer and left the bottles on the beach. the only real DNA that would give real results would be if they found any of these guys DNA on the body of the poor girl. the guys seem to have a real lawyer who ha already shot down the first witness in the case, and if the results don't match , even if thai/uk results are not the same then its game over

Sadly I think the chance that the 2 UK families have of ever finding out the truth about how their children were murdered is zero.
The case is proving again just how (deliberately ?) inept the Thai police are.
If ever there was a case for a complete overhaul of the police department in an area it is this one.
Will that happen??
Probably not.
For all the Generals' rants about the need to stamp out corruption this one does not contain Toxin ( :D ) supporters, so can be ignored.

Sadly, it is more of the same and has been going on for decades. One has to feel for the families of the deceased and worry about the fate of the accused if they are innocent.
You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.

I may be wrong but didn't the British police do their investigation?
What did they find?
Surely if they did the investigation some of these questions were asked.

As far as I am aware the British Police went to oversee and watch how the investigation was carried out as to whether it met international standards. They were not involved in the investigation just looking. from what I have managed to find out, they were not that happy and there report was 'in camera' to Ministers and their bosses.
The results I think prompted further investigation when the deceased arrived back in the UK.

Any results have been kept a closely guarded secret, but it is generally thought that the Bitish police were not entirely happy, although they would never say so to their Thai hosts.

Any speculation is just that speculation, facts are like Rocking Horse Poo rare and in some cases non-existent. It would appear reading the daily releases from the news feeds that the p[olice did not check certain aspects which they should have done and that assumptions have been made which are glaringly erroneous. But as many have said This Is Thailand , but will the Thai justice System with the worlds spotlight on it , back their incompetent Police or throw them to the wolves. That is the question which everyone I know is talking about .

Same thing different slant, when you consider all Police no matter where they are are supposed to uphold the freedoms of the citizens and actively pursue wrong-doers, then any action that does not fall into those categories shows incompetence whether that is led by corruption, face-saving or even cultural values, matters not it is incompetence .

Protection of the citizens from even themselves is the job. But then the other question is are the police here real Police or just another uniform, sure the so-called Officers are police they have full training but the rank and file , that is questionable. Therir life experiences and attitudes are in same cases so bloody archaic one wonders if they have any training at ALL.

Appalling, something needs to be done on an international level. Expats in Thailand should kick up a fuss but they won't as they'll be thrown out the country.
Burmese lives are so worthless to Thailand and it's outrageous that this can happen just so certain people can get away with murder and I suspect it won't be the only time those responsible have gotten away with such things.

Announced on Christmas Eve? Don't miss a trick do they. All those pesky Westerners are celebrating their holidays, let's announce it then, they won't even notice. Same old story.
