Sorry, Skinner, multi-entry 'O' visas DO have restrictions - at least for most nationalities. e.g. need to be married, or over 50, AND have income requirements...(which are patchily enforced).. Unless it has all changed in the last few months, but that would be a big deal and all over the forums. I have used them for 5 years.

Sorry Rick, perhaps I was not clear.multi -entry O visas, based on marriage or visiting kids, or supporting family members (not extensions) do not have income or age requirements, I was under the impression the visa based on retirement was an ' O A ' Perhaps I am mistaken. I have also used multi entry O visas many times over many years, and have never showed income.

Depends where you apply skinner.

There is an O/A visa - that is called a retirement visa, that last for 12 months. So a multi-entry one of them will allow 12 months (all but a day) stay in Thailand, a quick exit & then another 12 month stay. That (in the UK at least) has Medical, Criminal record check & income requirements.

It is also possible to get a multi-entry o based on 'retirement'. In the UK, over the past 10 years, that has had a variety of requirements. Up until 3 years ago the main requirement was over 50 years old & 'money in the bank' or an Income statement - which increased significantly over that time.
Now, in theory, the over 50 element is still there but the main requirement is proof of a GOVERNMENT pension. For most people (police & armed forces excepted) this will mean a minimum age of 65 years old. The amount is incidental, it is a pension that is the key.

) that the Thai Embassy in Vientiane will currently give an o visa based on 'retirement' just upon presentation of your passport - to verify age.
I would be very interested if someone who has tried this route (& either succeeded or failed) would relate their experience here!!!

Bob, Tried THAT in Vientiane,But was TOLD " NO CAN DO " So went to Savanakhet via Mukdahan & NO Problems Granted 12 Month Multi Non-Imm O WITHOUT Showing ANY Bank Accounts,Only Marriage Certificate,House Books ( Wifes & My Yellow Book ) & Wifes ID Card.....

That's the problem. a multitude of visa types, and different requirements enforced at different locations. In the UK, to get the 'O' visa you need proof of income (i have been declined once because they upped the amount between when i checked requirements and when i applied, 2 weeks later!). Also need to be over, 50, or have marriage certificate to a Thai, to get it (if married, maybe income will be waved, but it still says you need it in the rules in UK). In Laos, some things asked for, some not.....

Which brings me to another issue on visas .... for the first time, i am re-entering Thailand on a re-entry permit. What visa number do i put on the landing form? My original non-immigrant 'O', my application of stay number or my re-entry number? both the later are not all that legible being hand written. I guess i could just ask the immigration officer when i arrive ....

ive just done it and was told to put my re-entry number on the arrival card,i also wrote re-entry next to it,and pointed out to immigration officer at swampy that i have a re-entry,just incase hes in ,30 day mode when hes stamping

So is this based on marriage, 747? I guess you need to be married for this one?

Must you stay overnight in Savannakhet as well, like Vientiane? If so, how is it there?

YES It IS Based on Marriage Matey, As If you read my post PROPERLY You would have noticed I Wrote "Marriage Certificate" Must be Original NOT Copy ......Yes You DO Have to Overnight it in Savanakhet,It's Quiet But I've Probably stayed in WORSE Places
