Billionaire politician: Summer of Trump

Post by GT93 » August 26, 2015, 4:13 pm

I think Trump is excellent entertainment. Apparently this is the Summer of Trump:

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/world/u ... j7zla.html

Money talks as is well known in Thailand. If the US currently has billionaire politicians, I expect wealthy dudes to front up in my country down the line.

Personally I'm surprised Trump is still polling so well. American posters closer to the action might not be so surprised even though Trump doesn't have a good looking and capable sister.

Trump is certainly entertaining. Not the usual political bs. I don't know how long he will last before he becones bored by the whole process.

The GOP bosses are working over time to screw him. If the US economy tanks I'm sure his favorability rating will go up because it will play into his rhetoric.

I think Trump's current popularity is related to his complete trash talk towards all the traditional political power bases.. I think many folk see government (regardless of political party) as big talk, do nothing and spout the party talking points.. Trump for the nonce is a bit refreshing and sometimes amusing.. Can he keep it up?? I don't know but eventually all his big talk will have to be based on solid plans to support his rather radical stands on immigration, trade, diplomacy, and the running of government... He can swear all day he'll fix those things as soon as he is President but the devils in the details...

Flashback........2008, McCain selects Sarah Palin as his running mate. Within days, many thought it was a joke. But then she started talking in Palin-speak about pigs and lipstick and shooting wild animals from a helicopter and the crowds starting packing in at her rallies.
My hope is that Trump will last through most of next year......upsetting the apple cart enough to ensure another Democratic victory. If on the other hand, Trump were to win, that'd be reason to worry........very much.

Trump reminds me of Kasit Piromya........a foreign minister here in 2008-2011.

Trump reminds me a bit of Rob Ford, a wealthy guy, who got the ear of the ordinary voter because he did not talk down to them or act like a typical politician. He got down and dirty with everyone. Ford went on to become Mayor of Toronto and was caught on video smoking crack with some black hooligans, the Dixon Street Bloods, and many other things. Still his followers were, and are, loyal to him. He is establishment like Trump, but got the anti-establishment vote behind him.
You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.

well there Parrot I hope if Trump upsets the apple cart and causes a Democrat victory that it isn't Hillary Rodham Clinton and her notorious gang of sycophantic anus polishers... She'd do nothing but bring in a gang of yes-folk who would cater to the woman's utterly arrogant leadership style.. Joe Biden?? Nice guy but goofy. Bernie Sanders?? he's not even a Democrat, he's a registered Socialist allied with the Dems.. So who is out there in the Democratic wilderness that's not Hillary or not an "old White Guy".....

I don't necessarily disagree with the personas you depict.....I was strictly talking a Democrat's values versus those of a Republican's. If any of the Republicans would do something other than toe the party line, I might consider listening to them. But judging by the tone in the first debate, their values are contrary to mine on most all counts.

A reporter asked people who support Trump why they were supporting him.

"Broadly speaking, the men and women who wrote fall into two categories: Those who earnestly believe that Trump is the best choice to lead America and those who are motivated by giddyness at the chaotic spectacle of his success" theAtlantic.

Hillary is a horrible person. She is a liar and thinks she is above the law. She is definitely not to be trusted. That said, the democrats will likely win the election regardless of who the candidate is. They already have half of the vote by virtue of all the bloated excess government employees, welfare professionals, dead people and illegal voters. It is not likely we will ever see any conservative candidate win. People don't bite the hands that feed them.

I don't think the non democrat Americans want a "conservative". They want somone who will fix the problems - 70 years of foreign wars, a bloated Fed. gov. that waste billions and lies about everything, bankers and ceos getting enoromus wealth at their expense, failing pension systems that won't provide for them in their retirement years.
Read the article in the Atlantic on why people want Trump.

There will be a lot more foreign wars to come with Trump as the Prez. Probably lead to WW III. The man is about the worst diplomat you would want at a table of world leaders. Makes Ronnie Reagan look like a nuclear scientist, and the Bushes as honourable peace loving hippies. Complete imbecile.

You don't get as rich as Trump by being stupid. I think negotiations with foreign countries would take a different turn. Most countries respect power and resent negotiating with wimpy politicians. We would no longer be the laughing stock of the world.

If you reckon the US is a laughing stock now (which seems to be a mind set peculiar to conservatives), you can't imagine how it would be if The Donald was elected as Prez.

I agree!
This is the same Donald Trump who said that if the murdered journalists in France had been carrying guns, they would've had a fighting chance.
No Donald, they would've had a fighting chance if the terrorists had been carrying stationery.

I read today that the latest polls see Biden as a stronger candidate. Since I think that the democrats will win the election, I'd much rather see Biden in office that scheming corrupt liar of a witch.

US Presidential politics is full of fringe candidates - Ross Perot, Ralph Nadar, George Wallace, Jesse Jackson. It is along time untill March. There are so many things that can and will go wrong between now and then.

As HC said "What does it matter" the same oligarchs will rule the country no matter who is elected. So don't get your knickers in a knot.

remember, Ross Perot garnered the highest 3rd party candidate percentage ever.. And that was with him stopping his campaign for nearly six months in protest over Republican smear attacks on his family... He was hardly a "fringe" candidate in the vein of Nader, Wallace, or Jackson.. In this race, Trump, a guy who was never known to be conservative, is running as a Republican and Bernie Sanders, a registered Socialist is running as a Democrat and he's not even a member of that party!
