The most vunerable in the community are children
What do children wear mostly
Shorts or girls in skirts
Lots of exposed skin fo mossies to bite

Spent some time working in PNG and there was a mandatory protection campaign from mosquito bites by the company and the individual.
All our work attire clothing including socks ( but not jocks) was pre treated with Permethrin.
For those who are interested, you can buy Permethrin, I do not know if in UT, to treat your own clothing either by the spray on method or adding to the water in a washing machine for selected items. One treatment would most likely be sufficient for the high mosquito season. It does wear off after a certain amount of washes.
Noosard is correct and the children are the most vulnerable, they don't think or know to keep an eye out for the nasties. They also develop the symptoms more severely.
I'll assume it could be procured online via amazon or other sources.
If you are worried about the side effects for babies then just spray their direct area items, mosquito nets, cloth sections of prams and the light cloth laid over the baby for sun protection when out.
We were advised it was developed by the US armed forces for jungle action and is safe, but do your own investigation on the health issues. The product does work.
Have not been affected by any mosquito disease after working in some high risk areas, PNG and west Africa. And after seeing people who were affected I have learnt one thing, don't get bitten and prevention is far better then any type of cure.

I have no intention of getting heat stroke by wrapping up against mosquitoes, when the risk is LOW. As said, the risk in Udon is about 1 in 10,000 per year - and risk of death much lower. Road accidents kill 100's probably thousands times more every year - but we still use roads. Doesn't mean i don't take any steps to reduce mosquito skin interactions but need to put it in perspective.

Spot on Rick,

Plus the fact that a dengue vaccination has been trialled and about 25% uptake. ( low ) but good for the travelling expat perhaps.

Cost will be an issue, for the 3rd world and developing countries to implement.

Australian research also look goods

I would say 95% of the Thai population use short sleeve attire , with shorts, short dresses etc.

Outdoor facilities , restaurants do use the mosquito coils for the Malaria for evening

Simple individual behaviour like, remove standing water in your work place or residence , have fish pots that will also eat the larvae when laid.

I would say Darwin Awards for restaurants that don't have good Food Safety practices are probably right up there then??

Wazza phuut maak
Please wear suitable clothing when attending a concert in Udon Thani. Slacks and short-sleeved shirts are ok, shorts, tank tops or muscle shirts are not.
