On October 9-11, 2015 there will be an architectural exhibition on floor 1 of Central Plaza devoted to the theme

It deals with all the renovation options you have should you want as farang to buy an old house or a newer one built to outdated standards in Esan.
From what I learned thru talks and inspection in the last 10 years these options are dealing mostly with the 6 topics listed below. Some might be found as too expensive and never reached full implementation. It's my private attempt to aggregate the most important concerns in house renovation in tropical Esan. Others might be able to add. :D

Yes I was told about this and other shows , happening over this weekend and the word was unless you really want to be bogged down in traffic up to your armpits, give Centara a miss this weekend unless you are very very interested.

So it is Tesco Lotus for me and Nong Prajak.

A few of the major businesses taking part in the fair in Udon:

E.g. BlueScope is pretty much known in Thaland (especially Esan) for its flat steel - Thai like to use for the roofings of porches:

At a guess westerners would make up about 2% at best of construction in Thailand, so where do you get the wrong language concept from unless good business practise is 2% of the market?

Note that there is also a Money Expo on in Central this weekend.....9-11 October.
I just popped in to Central for Tops and to pay my 3BBB bill yesterday at 11am.Even at that time parking was horrendous....the outside area near Tawan Daeng was nearly full and in the car park opposite, cars were being blocked in already.
Many Thais going to the Money Expo on the 4th floor.Guest speakers who will give them an instant solution to there money woes. ;) Watch out for many more loans for houses and cars soon.....

So if you are planning to visit the Esan Renovation or Money Expo or just to enjoy a cup of coffee in Starbucks mixing with the hi-so Thais,dont take your car take a saamlaw ! =;
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Correct.

If You can't steer a bicycle or a motorcyke take a Songtheow-Bus. Cheaper. Lines 7, 9 and 14 all go to CentralPlaza. ;)

Especially this year, the "alternatives" to the blue PVC pipes in Thailand got much attention. The areas of potential indication are becoming clearer. So they were represented in Udon too. And spoke enough English to accomodate the worst Loso Farangs. :lol:

You get them in Do Home.

Things to think about when building with something out of the ordinary (blue pvc pipe, for example): your run-of-the-mill laborers may not be familiar with how to handle such materials. A Dutch friend of ours (now deceased) built one of the first homes in Udon using Q-blocks. At that time, he had to have them trucked from Bangkok. As the construction crew had no experience with such materials, he had to do his best to supervise the construction. About 2 months after he moved into his home, he had significant wall-length cracks in several of his rooms. It could have been shoddy construction, or it could have been workers working with unfamiliar materials.

Normally I 'd say that when You are smart enough to post questions here, You are smart enough to look it up in the internet.
Here is the exception:
