[quote="BobHelm"][quote] Scunthorpe 2-1 Shrewsbury
Cheltenham 1-1 Eastleigh
North Ferriby United 1-0 FC United of Manchester

The Iron went behind very early on but pulled it back in the second half. The Shrews have a terrible penalty record this season & they gave the game to the home side with their season's 7th. so far. The Iron move way up the table to 12th. Dizzy times Jon... :D

Indeed Bob three wins on the bounce by Scunny ...is this the start of the the EPL PUSH ???? , my direct contact with Chairman Swan must be paying dividends  =D>

So close for the high flying Robins as the Eastleigh goal was a late one ...and another interesting scoreline at North Ferriby as they beat the mighty Manu U .. any readers know where this tiny little town is without googling ??? North Ferriby that is .

Forgot to mention ......will be very interesting next weeks outcome on the TATA STEEL plant part closure and job losses in Scunthorpe .. could be devastating for the town and ALL its inhabitants as the steel works prop up the economy along with all the add on businesses associated with the industry ..including major sponsorship of my beloved football club .

Seems to me these foreign buyers , Thai , Indian etc bought these plants and are un able to run them and make a profit , blaming China seems their only excuse .

Very sad indeed........UP THE IRON

Well done Len spot on ...very nice picturesque town on the North bank of the Humber estuary .

Nice wheels .. Do you miss the old life Len ?? ...i think not ... truck driving in Thailand is fun also   .

I remember how the UK car industry was hit years back hope it stands firm unlike the steel .... only a matter of time before all plants are closed and the UK steel industry is finished , thats what you get when you sell out to high rolling other nations that have zero knowledge of how to operate successfully ...

Back on the football topic .....many other football clubs via sponsorship etc will be effected as different business sectors are sold to the highest clueless bidder and then closed down , very sad .

One team in trouble......

Northampton Town issued with winding-up petition by HMRC

League Two club Northampton Town have been issued with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
The petition relates to money outstanding following delays to a takeover, after an Indian consortium pulled out of purchasing the club.
This is separate to a £10.25m loan from the local council which the Cobblers have to repay.
Northampton chairman David Cardoza has said he "fully expects the matter to be resolved by the end of this week".
The news comes after the London-based consortium, who have been known to be interested in the club since June, pulled out of the deal on Monday because of "a number of complications surrounding the proposed acquisition".
Cardoza said that the club have moved on to speak with other interested parties, who know of the HMRC discussions, and there would be "definite news very soon".
The BBC understands Northampton Town owes HMRC a "five-figure sum".

Well, looks like my team, Leeds, have sacked yet another manager. BBC are saying that its 6th since in about 15 months but, frankly I've stopped counting. Word is that the paragon of virtue that is Steve Evans is the next one on the chopping block. Oh that its come to this, swapping coaches with Rotherham as Neil Redfearn is now their boss.

Samster i feel for you , the once massive Leeds Utd really are in a mess and how crazy it that the manager of mighty Rotherham below them in the championship is their target  surely they can attract a bigger name with buying power ??...I recall a few years back they were in the Champions league with a brilliant fan base a huge following where ever and when ever they played but even the most loyal of these fans must be cracking up with frustration a team full of talent and household names , i couldnt name one player currently pulling on a shirt this season,,,,very sad indeed as i always had a soft spot for them second only to Scunny .

Football all about the cash now and as already stated i can see many smaller clubs falling by the wayside in the months to come .

Jeez, had to pinch myself "a soft spot". Someone saying something nice about "Dirty Leeds". Makes me uncomfortable.

As a gesture, in return, I remember a couple of trips to The Old Show Ground (in the 80s I think) for cup matches. I took a girlfriend to one. It was a night match. We spent the afternoon and evening in the Scunny pubs (with a break between 3 and 5.30 due to the old fashioned licencing hours when we walked the streets and played fruit machines in a slots arcade). We watched Leeds lose 4-1 or 4-2 I think on a bitterly cold night. I knew how to show a girl a good time in those days but, it didn't last. Her head was obviously turned by the bright lights of Scunthorpe and she left me for a Gainsborough Trinity fan.

I lied about the last part but, anyway, I would like to say something nice about Scunny.....I would like to say........Nope, cant think of anything!

More woe for Leeds(??) as owner fails the Leagues 'owners & directors' Test - again..

More Leeds news

Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino has been disqualified by the Football League after failing its owners' and directors' test.

A statement from the Football League says:

"In June, Mr Cellino was found guilty by a Court in Sardinia of an offence under Italian tax legislation relating to the non-payment of VAT on the importation of a Land Rover vehicle. This resulted in a fine of €40,000 and the confiscation of the vehicle in question.

"Having considered detailed legal advice and the Court’s reasoned judgment, as supplied by Mr Cellino, the board determined that the decision of the Italian Court constitutes a disqualifying condition under the owners' and directors' test.

"Mr Cellino has until 28 October to appeal against the board's decision. Any such appeal would be heard by an independent panel."

It might be a blessing in disguise if Cellino is not allowed back.....5 Leeds managers in 14 months,36 managers in 22 years in Italy says it all about his suitability about running a football club.
Steve Evans as your new boss  .....I can only see things getting worse now, sorry. :(
Leeds should be a Premiership side.I remember the Don Revie teams of the late 60's early 70's plus the David O'Leary side of the late 90's early 2000's.....in fact, didnt you get into a European Cup Final once under Jimmy Armfield ? ...around 1975,I think ?
so samster,I have the deepest sympathy for you with your plight almost as bad as fans of Newcastle and Scunthorpe !

Am beginning to have my doubts about Cellino for the first time now. I don't agree with the FA charges. I am sure all other club owners pay their tax in full (!!!) and, all he appears to be guilty of is of having a bad accountant.

Firing Rosler for Evans is a weird one but, you never know, Evans is ideal for the " lets stick together because everyone is against us" style of management which worked for the great Don Revie. Think that's just my natural positivity talking though

As far as the past goes, yes, Armfield got us to the European Cup Final beating the Barcelona of Cruyff and Neeskens on aggregate in the semis when we were down to 10 men in the Nou Camp. We wuz robbed in the final when a ref by the name of Michel Kitabdjian (never forget him!!) denied us 2 clear pens in the final as well as a disallowed Lorimer goal for offside. Watched the game again recently and those denied pens still hurt as they were stick on!!!

A touching tale samster ... my first read of the day and brought a tear to my eye and left me wondering if the lass who so cruelly dumped you is still with the Giansboro fella ?? , gotta agree at this juncture im at a loss to say much positive about my home town and no doubt this week the Indian owner of the TATA steel works will make things a whole lot worse and even Scunny fans will be thinking of a move to Leeds !! [-X

BTW IMO Leeds best side was the one with Alan Smith up front and Gary Mcalister running the show ... i was only a wee slip of a lad in the days of Bremner and Lorimer .

Gillingham 2-1 Scunthorpe
Not a good day for the town of Scunthorpe in any way yesterday.
Here is a BBC commentary of what the loss of 900 Tata jobs is likely to do to the town.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-34580178

On the football front, such is the competitiveness in the middle of the table that a single loss dumps Scunthorpe down to 16th. place. Their last nights' opponents continue to top the table so maybe not a surprising result...

There was an interesting documentary on MUTV about Diego Forlan the former Uruguay,Manchester United,Villareal and Atletico Madrid striker, now aged 36.
In January 2014 he became one of the most high profile players ever in the Japanese J League when he signed an 18 month deal with Osaka Cerezo.
In his first season Cerezo came a creditable 4th and there were high hopes they would push for the title in the new season. In their history Osaka Cerezo have never won a title.
However it all went horribly wrong.Serbian coach,Popovic, was sacked with the team struggling and his German replacement only lasted a couple of months before he left, also, after not winning a game.
Cerezo then appointed youth team manager,Yuji Okuma from Japan,to the managers role. This also proved to be a disaster as Cerezo were relegated at the end of the season. For some reason,Forlan was out of favour with the Japanese manager and never made the starting line up under him !
In the last match of the season, with Cerezo neding a win to stay up,Forlan never even made it to the subs bench. They lost at home 4-1.
Forlan says he was never given a reason for his demise. It seems he asked on several occassions but the Japanese manager would never tell him.The manager seemed to rely on youngsters playing .Another foreigner, former German international Cacau, also never featured.
The documentary ended with Cerezo relegated but Forlan saying he wanted to stay with the club.Cerezo appointed a Brazilian manager for the new season and,I see,are currently 4th in J2.Forlan played at the start of the new season but I noticed he signed for Uruguayan side,Penarol, when his contract was up....overall he scored 17 goals in 42 matches for Cerezo.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

The romance of the FA Cup.....I have to admit that I'd never heard of Sporting Khalsa.....
Sporting Khalsa.jpg
FA Cup: Sporting Khalsa aiming to reach first round for first time

Sporting Khalsa used to be known locally as the club with a curry house.
But the West Midlands team have come a long way since their formation in 1991 and can make history on Saturday by reaching the first round of the FA Cup for the first time.
It will not be easy against the relative giants of FC United of Manchester but, whatever happens at the Aspray Arena, it will be another chapter in a remarkable story.

'We normally only have 50 fans here'
Sporting Khalsa are fifth in the Midland League Premier Division, the ninth tier of the English football pyramid. On Tuesday, they won at Brocton. The attendance was 87.
On Saturday, in excess of 2,000 supporters are expected for the visit of National League North side FC United, who play three tiers above Khalsa, in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
The winners will earn £12,500 and enter Monday's first-round draw alongside 2008 winners Portsmouth and Wigan, who lifted the trophy by beating Manchester City at Wembley in 2013.
Prior to this FA Cup run, Sporting Khalsa had never had an attendance in three figures, but there were 750 at the Aspray Arena for the visit of Spalding in the third qualifying round.
"We have brought the marquees in because we simply could not accommodate the numbers we are expecting in the bar. Food will be available, though."
Ah yes, the now famous curry house, located within the 4-4-2 bar adjacent to the ground, open on match and non-matchdays. :D
Sporting Khalsa emerged from a group of a dozen Sikh lads who would meet on Willenhall Memorial Park for a kickabout at weekends.
Sporting Khalsa's architects were Asian. Their official website calls them a semi-professional Asian club.
But it has always been open to all, regardless of religion, skin colour and gender.
They bought a pitch at Bloxwich Town but when Aspray Arena became available after Willenhall Town went into administration in 2009, the opportunity to relocate to a stadium barely 400 yards from the Sunday league pitches where the Sporting Khalsa concept first emerged was too tempting to reject.
"We just love football. It doesn't matter to us if you are black, green or yellow. We welcome anybody.
"We have kids teams from under-6s upwards and four ladies teams. We are a community club - and the community is everybody."
At 15:00 BST on Saturday, the dreaming must stop.By any logic, Sporting Khalsa do not stand a chance of bridging the gap to FC United, akin to a League Two side taking on a Premier League team.
They do have an international, central defender Tes Robinson, who plays for St Kitts and Nevis. They also have a forward, Craig Bannister, who has scored nine times in this season's FA Cup.
The players share lifts to away games. Many still play Sunday football in addition to Saturdays. And it was not known for certain until less than 24 hours before they left for their replay against Spalding last week that their goalkeeper and winger would be able to play because of work commitments.
Manager Ian Rowe said "But let's not kid ourselves. The chance of us reaching the level we will need to win this game is probably one in a hundred.
"AFC Fylde are in the same league as FC United. They beat a team in our league 9-0. I don't want that to happen to us."
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Chesterfield 0-3 Scunthorpe
Margate 1-2 Forest Green
Havant & Waterlooville 3-3 Cheltenham
Sporting Khalsa 1-3 FC United of Manchester
Macclesfield 3-2 Alfreton
The Iron's yo-yo season continues as they rise back up to 12th. Chesterfield assisted all they could though as they gave away the first goal by way of a penalty which also reduced them to 10 men.
Town have to do it again as they end up in a 6 goal thriller!!
