Port Vale 1-1 Scunthorpe
Rangers 2-2 Morton
Cheltenham 3-1 Chelmsford City
Havant & Waterlooville 2-0 Forest Green
Both league matches ended in a draw. I imagine that The Iron will be the happier of the two supported sides though.
A good away point for them keeps them smack bang in the middle of the table.
Rangers drop 2 points against a spirited Morton side, but are not punished by second place Hibs with points as they can only draw at home too.
In the Cup...
Town continue to be a free scoring side, I only hope that the cup competition does not take their focus away from the League.
Forest Green's strange drop in form continues & they will not be happy to be soundly beaten by a side from the division below..

After much searching for the result of the Macclesfield game I eventually managed to come up with this....
Abandoned

Abandoned at half-time due to heavy rain. Replayed if draw.
The hosts were 2 nil down at the time, so will be pleased with the reprieve...

Certainly a lucky escape for Macc. The fans on the website are mostly saying the match shouldnt have started because of the conditions.
It's very unusual to have heavy rainfall in Macclesfield :^o They play again on Tuesday night at Macc.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Watched the "highlights" of the game and indeed twas raining persistantly throughout .. teams did well to get thru the 90 mins and the draw appeared a fair result .. also ive got a soft spot for Vale from my days in Hanley and Burslum and a pint or two in the Left Bank with local character Tony Crossley ...a certain Robbie Williams Vale thru n thru if i recall correctly .

Scunthorpe 3 - 0 Leyton Orient
Well the thought of a winnable away game at Chelsea up next in the cup obviously galvanised The Iron. It was not as easy as the score suggests though, with it remaining at no score (the result of the first game) until the 55th. minute. Scunny then scored 2 in 5 minutes to seal the tie & scored a third in the last minute to put some icing on it.. :D

Latest BBC reporting (so must be true ) Khun MORONINHO may be on the brink .............his decision or that of owner Abramovich still to be decided .. but the fear of facing Scunny in the next round of the FA cup surely has paid its part .

Grass Roots Footie 2015/16 (everything except EPL)

Post by BobHelm » December 20, 2015, 6:58 am

Scunthorpe 0-1 Sheff Utd
Cheltenham 1-0 Altrincham
Forest Green 1-0 Boreham Wood
Welling 0-1 Macclesfield
FC United of Manchester 1-2 Gloucester City
Falkirk 2-1 Rangers
Ex Iron player, Billy Sharp, scored the only goal against his old club as United won away for the first time since August.
Town stay top, but it was a close thing with the visitors the better side for long patches.
FG eventually got past a resolute Wood defence & are still on Cheltenham's tail.
Macclesfield are in 6th. after a nicely struck 18th. of the season for Kristian Dennis.
Gloucester move out of the drop zone with their away win, but it is still a tight squeeze at the bottom. 14th. place Worcester City are just 2 points ahead of, 3rd. from bottom, Hednesford Town.
The early start obviously did not suit Rangers as they stay top only by goal difference. They went behind right at the start to a penalty & then had their own saved in the last minute to deny the draw.

I watched this game and it was a cracking match.....the way football should be played,Louis ! =;
It had everything.....plenty of goalmouth incident, tackles flying in,fast direct football, dubious penalties,of which the last one was saved in injury time by the Falkirk keeper,Rogers, who was my man of the match.
Both sides were a credit to Scottish football.Falkirk have a very promising young side and their future looks bright, providing they can keep hold of their best players.Rangers, too, look a good side. They just need to turn all their possession into goals.
Rangers v Hibs on 28th December should be well worth watching.
I got more pleasure watching this game than the last 10 Manchester United matches ! :(

Macclesfield up to 6th in the Conference but the position flatters them a bit as they have played more matches....9th or 10th probably more realistic......but their should be a big crowd on Boxing Day for the visit of Merseysides second team,Tranmere Rovers ! ;)

RIP Jim.....a huge influence on English football for many years.
Jimmy Hill.jpg
Jimmy Hill: Former Match of the Day presenter dies aged 87
Former Match of the Day presenter Jimmy Hill, one of English football's most influential figures, died on Saturday at the age of 87.
As chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association, he led the campaign for the scrapping of maximum wages for professional footballers.
He played 297 games for Fulham and was later manager and chairman at Coventry.
Hill - diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008 - made more than 600 appearances as presenter of Match of the Day.
'An iconic and unique figure'
In a statement his agent, Jane Morgan, said: "It is with great sadness that his wife Bryony Hill and the children of Jimmy Hill have announced that Jimmy passed away peacefully aged 87 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Bryony was beside him."
Lord Hall, the BBC's director general, said: "For generations of fans Jimmy Hill was an authoritative voice as both a presenter and analyst.
"He was committed to innovation in every aspect of the game, including broadcasting and always believed supporters came first. His influence lives on in the programmes we enjoy today."
Jimmy Hill Jimmy Hill scored 52 goals in 297 appearances for Fulham between 1952 and 1961
Barbara Slater, BBC director of sport, added: "Jimmy Hill was an iconic and unique figure and we are all deeply saddened by the news.
"He was one of the great innovators and a huge talent, a man ahead of his time with a personality that dominated his era both in football and broadcasting.
"Jimmy was also a dear friend and colleague to many at the BBC and will be greatly missed."
Sports minister Tracey Crouch said Hill had been an "authoritative and passionate voice" of football in her life, adding: "He was an icon of the game. May he rest in peace."
Five essential Jimmy Hill moments
Some of the other ideas Hill helped make a reality included establishing a player's right to freedom of movement at the end of his contract and the introduction of three points for a win.
He also commissioned the first English all-seater stadium, lifted a ban on media interviews, introduced the first electronic scoreboard in 1964 and the first colour match-day programme.
The former Brentford and Fulham forward was appointed Coventry manager in November 1961, leading the Sky Blues to the Division Three and Division Two titles.
There is a statue of Hill at Coventry's Ricoh Arena where he was also chairman - a role he also held at Fulham and Charlton.
He became a broadcaster and head of sport for ITV in 1967, before moving to the BBC six years later where he became presenter of Match of the Day until he handed over the reins to Des Lynam in 1989.
The FA
'He was a great, great man' - football reacts
BBC commentator John Motson, a colleague for many years, said: "How do you sum up a life like Jimmy Hill? if I had to try and do it in three words it would be: innovator, instigator and inspiration. There is so much to say about Jimmy, it never stopped, it was original, revolutionary.
"He thought of things before other people did - the two big innovations that the modern generation take for granted - shirt sponsor names, unheard of back in the 70s and 80s, and the three points for a win. He was hugely instrumental in that."
'An instigator, innovator and inspiration' - Motson on Hill
Des Lynam, who also worked alongside Hill at the BBC, said: "He was a valued and highly talented colleague with a sharp incisive mind and excellent communication skills.
"He was also a true and loyal friend and great fun.
"I have much missed his company in the last few years since he became ill with Alzheimer's."
Match of the Day presenter and former England striker Gary Lineker said: "He had such an extraordinary life, he was an extraordinary man. He was a football man through and through.
"In my first ever presenting role at the European Championship in 1996 I was terribly nervous but Jimmy helped relax me. He was terribly magnanimous, and kind.
"My first experience of TV was actually at the 1986 World Cup, when I came in for the final, and he was the first person to congratulate me on winning the golden boot when Diego Maradona didn't score. He was always switched on in that way.
"He became a friend and we would sometimes play golf together. He was a great, great man."
FA chairman Greg Dyke said: "In many ways, Jimmy Hill was football. What was remarkable about Jimmy was that he went on to have so many different careers.
"He was a popular presenter, a hugely influential figure and, such was his style, he was loved by millions - even among those who didn't follow football.
"I knew him at the BBC. He always kept a simple charm and had a warm personality.
"Those are special qualities and helped him have a broad appeal, but he managed to combine that with a deep knowledge of football.
"His insightful analysis and strong-minded opinions helped bring the game to life and paved the way for the TV coverage of football that we love today. He was a true great of the game."
Fulham, whose players wore black armbands for Saturday's Championship match at Bolton, tweeted: "Jimmy's contributions to the club, on and off the field, were immeasurable."

Hill was also instrumental in 1961 assisting footballers in abolishing the maximum wage. I wonder if he ever imagined what they can earn all these years later.

Thanks for your praise on the Ranger game Zid. Have a 'butchers' at this unseen footage of an Old Firm game due to a TV dispute. Count how many you think would have remained on the pitch these days. Oh! and it was a fine result as well. Pretty good images from a camcorder in the stand. \:D/ =D>

Joint level at the top of the Scottish Championship Rangers and Hibs live on Monday 28th at 1500 UK time on BT Sport 1.

Could be a feisty affair but hopefully Warburton can steer us to a win and have the bragging rights over Ex-Evertonian 'Una' and keep his big trap shut (for a while at least). Would also be a Happy Christmas to me and piss off my elder brother.

Some more sad news from the world of football.....Don Howe has passed away....an excellent coach for many years and not a bad player either....RIP
Don Howe.jpg
Don Howe: Former Arsenal and England coach dies aged 80
Former England international and coach Don Howe has died at the age of 80.
The full-back played for West Brom and Arsenal, earning 23 England caps, before establishing himself as a renowned coach for club and country.
Howe helped Arsenal to a league and FA Cup double in 1971 and spent four years as West Brom boss before returning to the Gunners as coach and manager.
He also coached under former England managers Ron Greenwood, Sir Bobby Robson and Terry Venables.
Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick said Howe had been "enduring a long battle with illness", but added it was still a "shock to learn the news".
Howe played every game in the 1958 World Cup and was then a key part of Robson's coaching staff as England reached the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup, before also supporting Venables as his side made it to the last four of Euro 96.
Former Gunners goalkeeper Bob Wilson said Howe was "a fine player but truly he was one of the greatest ever coaches in football".
FA chairman Greg Dyke described his death as a "great loss for English football".
Dyke added: "He is widely regarded as being in the vanguard of coaching in England, and I know that his loss will be keenly felt amongst the coaching fraternity in particular and not least by [current England boss] Roy Hodgson, who was close to Don."
Hodgson said: "I found myself privileged to say he befriended me and I think it is a great loss and I am very sad.
"I think we were very fortunate growing up as young coaches to be able to take inspiration from Don, Sir Bobby Robson and Dave Sexton alongside him.
"He was absolutely one of the very best coaches I have ever come across in my life and, certainly in my opinion, one of the very best coaches England ever had."
Howe's managerial career also included spells at QPR, Coventry City and Turkish club Galatasaray, while he was also a coach under Bobby Gould when Wimbledon earned a shock win over Liverpool in the 1988 FA Cup final.
But he was best known for his relationship with Arsenal, which spanned five decades.
Appointed as Gunners manager in 1984, he was credited with developing the likes of former players such as the late David Rocastle, Martin Keown, Michael Thomas and Niall Quinn.
Former boss George Graham said that Arsenal's 1971 'Double' under manager Bertie Mee was "due to the organisation of Don".
Graham told BBC Radio 5 live: "He was a lovely man. Quiet in company but he could lose his temper as well. Certainly one of the best coaches I have worked for."
Wilson added: "He was innovative and for us as a club he was instrumental and inspirational. He made us believe as a team. He should be remembered forever for his contribution to coaching in England."
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Rangers pay back £5m loan from Mike Ashley
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/35177571

It would appear that Rangers have got rid of some of the monkey off their back.
I guess that they now hope & pray that the 9% of the shares he owns will start to lose interest to him also.
A very near miss & a narrow escape I think.
