I am shortly off to foreign parts until after the New Year.
I fully expect to be watching some football, but don't expect a great deal of Forum participation.
So this is what awaits us over the holiday period...

SPL yesterday

Heart of Midlothian 2 Celtic 2.

Ronny Deila the boss from the 'midden' must have been spitting feathers as his sides two goals were conceded in the 45th and 90th minutes. The one in the 90th was a Peach for Hearts. \:D/ :D

Results for the devoted fans of our smaller clubs.....

Scunthorpe 1 Rochdale 1

Rangers 4 Hibernian 2

Cheltenham 1 Torquay 0
Chester 0 Macclesfield 2
Forest Green 3 Kidderminster 0
Woking 0 Boreham Wood 0

Sad news from Czech Republic

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek has died at the age of 47, nine days after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Srnicek collapsed while running in his native Czech Republic on Sunday, 20 December.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Poruba and placed in an induced coma.

But his agent, Steve Wraith, confirmed that brain scans showed "irreversible" damage and the decision was taken to turn off his life support system.

Maybe squeaky bum time for ex-toffee 'Una' Stubbs at Hibs after Falkirk went above them on the same points last night in a 2-0 win over Livingston. Hibs however have a game in hand. Both three points behind Rangers. 90 minutes highlights in 90 seconds of the Gers 4-2 win over Hibs - see it and weep 'Una'. Hopefully Halliday's appeal will be reduced to a Yellow (but very much doubt it) following Fyvie's over reaction with Stubbs admitting his player play acted.

Yesterdays results.....

Dumbarton 0 Rangers 6

Scunthorpe United 1 Wigan Athletic 1

Forest Green 3 Torquay United 1 (played Friday)
Cheltenham v Kidderminster PP
Tranmere 0 Macclesfield 1
Woking 2 Aldershot 1

FC United of Manchester 2 Bradford PA 1

Rangers narrow win at Dumbarton maintains their lead at the top of the Scottish Championship.Falkirk could well turn out to be Rangers main rivals for the title as they look a decent side.
On Friday,Forest Green cut Cheltenhams lead at the top of the Conference to 4 points.Cheltenhams game at home to Kidderminster, yesterday, was postponed due to heavy rain along with the games at Braintree and Eastleigh.Dovers match at home to Welling was abandoned midway through the second half due to the atrocious conditions. This abandonment enabled Macclesfield to sneak into the play off positions, after a fine win away to Merseysides second team. However, the Silkmen have played more games than there nearest rivals so it may only be temporary.

Yes,it is true, mes amies. When Real offered me another 30,000 baht per month on top of my company pension,it was too good an offer to refuse !

Zidane replaces Rafael Benitez as Real Madrid coach
Rafael Benitez has been sacked as manager of Real Madrid after just seven months in charge, with club and Udon Map legend Zidane replacing him.
Spaniard Benitez, 55, was relieved of his duties following a meeting of the club's board on Monday.
Benitez's final game was Sunday's 2-2 draw with Valencia, which left them third in La Liga, four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.
Zidane is the 11th coach to be appointed in Florentino Perez's 12 years 8-[ as club president across two spells. The length of his contract has not been made public.
His first match in charge will be Saturday's home La Liga game against Deportivo la Coruna.
Benitez's Real Madrid record
Managed Won Drew Lost Win %
25 17 5 3 68%

Meanwhile, back in England, this week sees the first legs of the League Cup semi finals.
Stoke v Liverpool 3am Thai Wednesday
Everton v Man City 3am Thai Thursday

Both semis look pretty close over two legs but useing my years of prediction experience I am going to predict Stoke and Manchester City as the winners which,of course, means we can look forward to an all Merseyside final on Sunday 28th February ! :-"
Government officials in the picturesque riverside town of Nong Khai in NE Thailand have announced that they will set up a 12 inch TV on the promenade to enable any of the dozens of Everton and Manchester City fans in SE Asia, who might be in town,to watch the game free of charge.

Stoke 0 Liverpool 1 Ibe 37′ .
FT 90 +4
HT 0-1
Liverpool hold a precious advantage going into the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg after Jordon Ibe's goal gave them victory at Stoke City.
Jurgen Klopp's side take the lead to Anfield for the return on 26 January despite losing influential midfield man Philippe Coutinho and defender Dejan Lovren to hamstring injuries before half-time.
Ibe, on for Coutinho, struck at the far post in the 37th minute after clever build-up work by Adam Lallana and Joe Allen.
Stoke failed to reproduce the form that has brought them home wins against Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United in recent times and, when they did force an opening, Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet saved well from Glen Johnson and Joselu.
Substitute Jon Walters wasted their best chance deep into stoppage time and Liverpool are now favourites to meet either Everton or Manchester City at Wembley.

The other semi final,Everton v Manchester City,is on at 3am Thai on Thursday morning.....so a bit of a late night or early rise for 747man and goodison ! ;)

Good start to the New Year with the Gers cruising to a win and Woking beating the 'Shots' in the local derby. Pity I had to wait till the 4th to celebrate. Being sick at New Year as a 'jock' is totally alien to me.

Everton 2 Manchester City 1......wot,no response from the Toffees fanatics,747man and goodison, after this deserved win for Everton !

Everton hold the advantage in the Capital One Cup semi-final against Manchester City after Romelu Lukaku's 19th goal of the season gave them victory at Goodison Park.
City looked to have secured a draw with 14 minutes left, when Jesus Navas finished a sweeping counter-attack following brilliant work by Sergio Aguero.
That equaliser cancelled out Ramiro Funes Mori's opener for Everton on the stroke of half-time.
Argentine Funes Mori pounced after Willy Caballero saved Ross Barkley's shot - although City were nursing an understandable sense of injustice with Lukaku standing in an offside position in front of the keeper.
Everton refused to be sunk by Navas's sucker punch and responded within two minutes, Lukaku heading in his 12th goal in 12 games from Gareth Barry's perfect cross.

Last nights FA cup tie

Exeter 2 (Nichols 9′ Holmes 45′) Liverpool2 (Sinclair 12′ Smith 73′)

League Two Exeter were denied a memorable FA Cup upset as a barely recognisable Liverpool side other than Bentke, came from behind to force a third-round replay.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had made 11 changes and his side fell behind early on when Tom Nichols poked in.

Jerome Sinclair equalised with a low finish but the hosts retook the lead when goalkeeper Adam Bogdan conceded direct from a Lee Holmes corner.

With time running out, Brad Smith rescued Liverpool with a neat finish.

Grossly unfair for the Toffees having to play 2 teams: Dagenham AND Redbridge! Goodison Pitch will be overly congested methinks.

Friday 8th January 2016
The Emirates FA Cup - Third Round
Exeter 2-2 Liverpool
Pool fight back for the draw. Exeter will probably be as well off with the proceeds of the replay as they would have been with the win.. :D
Hardly a recognisable side from the visitors though - just 34 appearances prior to this game this season by the starting 11 & Benteke has 21 of them...

Tranmere Rovers came from two goals down with a minute left to score three and earn a stunning win at Barrow.

Even Fergie would have been proud of that late achievement.
