Hi John,
Lots of good info there, but unfortunately you have miss interpreted my plan.
The kitchen bench, sink and oven are against the front wall, (3.75).
I have added a small return wall also which is not on the plan, (please see pics below)
As I said earlier, all to aid watching the pool while working in the house.
The back wall of the kitchen will take the fridge and pantry.

As for the outside cooking, you may be right and it may be too hot, but at our present house the kitchen faces west towards the hot setting sun and my wife has no problem cooking there, so cooking under the patio with a slight breeze from a fan will be heaven compared to that, (I think). Time will tell.

In that case we're in full agreement and all those months you spent thinking about it were anything but wasted - and neither were my posts clarifying it if anyone copies your plans.

Hi All,
Back at home for a week's R&R.
The builders have finished off and gone, and the block is all cleaned up and leveled.
After going through the house, found a couple of small issues and the builder is happy to come back and fix.
All in all, I am quite pleased with the outcome.

We are not quite ready to move in yet as the wife would like some security on the windows and curtains and other things for privacy etc.
We will organize those during my next 3 weeks away.
I am looking forward to slowly doing the rest of the job, building surrounding walls, put in pool, build workshop and rest of landscaping.
Mostly happy that I can do the rest at my own pace as the build was very fast and at times did not give us much time to make choices, but after talking to several people, it seems that I am very lucky to have had it built so fast in Thailand, so no complaints here.

Yes Barney, a few interesting conversations all the way through.
Throw in two different cultures and the difference between what a man wants compared to what a woman wants.
Complicated, but we survived OK.

We have a house now, but need to make it a home, that should be more fun.

My posts will be less frequent now, probably just monthly each time I come back, but hope to have everything finished within a year or so, but we will see, and I am not losing any sleep over that.

I am keen to follow your build and the others on this forum.
Just hope the serial pests can control them selves.

Nothing much has happened in the last couple of months.
We are moved in but lots still to be done.
I will resume soon and put pics on here.

I did get a bit dejected by two serial pests who hijacked this thread, (and others), so lost a bit of interest in posting, but I will continue soon for the people that are genuinely interested.

Would be good if you could post some pics of your build.

Hey Mick don't stop posting because of a couple of ---- stirrers. I'm sure you have a few answers on the important items for UM members.
How'd your gutters, rain protection etc hold up with the recent rain?
Did your kitchen in the middle cause any problems?
Did your ceiling fans pass the test?
Checking on the earlier parts of the thread Sport said you're Victorian and hate AFL???? Must be a typo.

How'd your gutters, rain protection etc hold up with the recent rain? (Not too sure as I have not been back for about 5 weeks. Have had some water overflow, but my wifes pics don't give me enough info to determine what's going on. Have to be there in a storm to watch myself, but generally, I think working OK.)

Gets a bit much after a while. You would be surprised at how many are like me, they just aren't game to admit it:-) )

Ok, after a change of job and a bit of consolidation, I am ready to move on with the house.
After reading Barney's post, I thought I better get back on the forum as well.

We've been living in the house since January and all is going well.
The rain gutters are working fine and getting all the water away easily.
Unfortunately, I created at bird sanctuary with the roof structure and guttering, but I have since installed light galvanized wire to prevent the birds nesting which has fixed the problem.
As I have said on another thread, a couple of minor cracks otherwise all good.
In typical Thai style, not all doors fit well considering the change of seasons and a few other small problems for me to fix as well but nothing serious.
Will give me something to do while I'm here.
Family very happy with the result.
Maybe Us Falang are too fussy. Don't know?

Pictured is recent land fill for the outdoor living area.
This will be fully fenced, to try and keep out snakes, scorpions, dogs etc, and keep our dog in when we get one.
This area will have the pool, entrance to my (to be built) workshop and outdoor hut for wife's mum.

World Concrete are coming today to start to build perimeter walls and one wall for outdoor area.
I will post pics as they go along.

Hi Mick. I know WC are doing a pile and plank wall for you, but do they do the more common Thai style poured column/beam variety of retaining wall as well? I am looking to get a team in as close as possible to December 24 - mine is not a big job; just about 75m all up, and height only 1 to 1.2 m. I'll throw this open to anyone out there who has had a good experience building this style of retaining wall - please post or PM me. Thanks for the space Mick.

Ajarn,
I can't answer that for sure, as that was not what I was looking for.
I did have one of their flyers that showed lots of what they can do, and that was nearly everything from small jobs to high rises.
I'm sure they can do what you want, but best to call them.

Yesterday a small crew arrived, (a day late), to clear some small trees from the fence line and mark out the dimentions, posts etc.
Today the excavator with auger arrived and drilling began.
All holes 2m deep and going OK.
Soil looks pretty good down there, actually.

Reminds me of council workers back in OZ.
