Well Blackburn took a 20th. minute lead but it was all downhill from then on. Conceded 5 goals & had a man set off as The Hammers, & especially Dimitri Payet, tore them apart. West Ham had a man of their own sent off, but that was about the only blight on the game for them.
Bit of a surprise at Spurs given the current Premiership performances of both sides. However the Cup often takes no notice of form & although the visitors rode their luck at times (& should be grateful for an outstanding performance by Wayne Hennessey between the sticks) they were well worth the result on the day.
Well Pellegrini said that the Cup was not a priority for him & boy did that show. I have always thought that Citi have the strongest squad in the Premiership but that looked nothing like the case as Chelsea just pushed them aside in the second half.
Chelsea will travel to Premier League rivals Everton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Manchester United and League One Shrewsbury play their fifth-round tie on Monday, and the winner will host West Ham.

Elsewhere, Championship side Reading face Crystal Palace at home, while Watford will travel to the winner of Arsenal and Hull's replay.

Ties will take place across the weekend of 11-14 March.
Queen of Sth 0-1 Rangers
Nice Kenny Miller goal sees Rangers top the table by 8 points - although they have played a game more.
Hibs, themselves, kept up the pressure with a nice 3 nil home win again bottom of the table Alloa.

Shrewsbury 0-3 Man Utd
Well another shock in the FA Cup 5th, round - vanG's Manchester United win a game comfortably. It was against a Division One side though so, as I have said before, maybe they have found their level. It promises to be a harder battle in the quarters against a lively West Ham side though.
In truth Shrewsbury seemed rather overwhelmed by the occasion & never gave United too many worries throughout. The underdogs need to harry, worry & cause every ball to be a battle in order to upset their more fancied opponents & that just never happened.
So mixed news for all United fans as it means that the failed Dutch management experiment continues for now. However, personally, I don't think that winning the FA Cup (plus the Europa, come to that :D ) will mean that he will be still in charge come kick off next season...

Yep,Shrewsbury were far too tentative. In fact, similar to Derby County but a worse standard, which you would expect with them being League 1.
You expect the little clubs to have a real go at the Premiership sides, when they are at home, but it never happened in these two matches.
But a wins a win.It just means that Macca will have to remain chained to the railings of Louis Van Gaals house for a while longer and mat80 will continue to fret about the destination of his adversary,Mr Mourinho ! 8)
And the likelihood of Bob being spotted in Tops next season with "Special1" printed on the back of his shirt remains a real possibility ! :-"
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Cheltenham 0-0 Gateshead
Guiseley 0-1 Forest Green
A bit of a slip by the League leaders last night.. :( Play off hopefuls Gateshead (they are in 5th. place) worryingly had the better of the game & Town held on for the draw rather than were unlucky not to win it!!
It was a pretty even game when Rovers visited the North of the country. Both sides has chances to win it but the visitors eventually did the business.

Town now 2 points ahead with 11 to play..Image

A surprise (but welcome for me) result at Easter Road last night in the Scottish Championship as Rangers main rivals Hibs, lost 3-0 at home to Morton. Eight point lead remains for Rangers and now with the same amount of games played. \:D/

Hull 0-0 Sheff Wed
The race to join the Premiership is a bit like the race for the top of the table - no one seems able to put a firm stamp on the league & all the contenders seem to have as many sticky patches as good runs.

This is what the top of the table looks like at the moment.
table.png
Hull had a chance to put some distance between them & the chasers last night, but could only manage a draw against 6th. place Wednesday.
Middlesbrough could make progress this week as they are games behind but are playing Saturday, Wednesday & next Friday as well.
2nd. placed Burnley could go top today as they face a short trip to out of form Bolton...
Scunthorpe V Oldham
Barrow V Forest Green
Macclesfield V Wrexham
FC United of Manchester V North Ferriby United
Rangers V St Mirren
No match for Town this weekend, they are next away at Eastleigh on Tuesday night..

Scunthorpe 1-1 Oldham
Barrow 2-2 Forest Green
Macclesfield 0-0 Wrexham
FC United of Manchestern3-2 North Ferriby United
Rangers 1-0 St Mirren
Oldham might be in the zone, but they have greatly improved of late & were unbeaten in 5 going into the game. The visitors went ahead but The Iron are on a bit of a run of their own (12 points from the last 5 games going into this one). They left it very late indeed to salvage the point though!!

Rovers were 2 goals to the good & top of the table with less than 10 minutes to go but somehow Barrow managed to turn it around.

The draw keeps Wrexham in the hunt for a play off place. Sadly the hopes for Macclesfield to do similar have all but flown out the window. They are on a dismal run since the turn of the year - not winning a game since 2nd. January.

Followers of FC continue to get value for money & excitement!! They are not out of danger of becoming involved in a relegation battle though as it is so tight at the bottom of the league. This win, against play off hopefuls Ferriby will go a long way to help though.

It was a very late strike to give the home side the points here. But, even better news was to come to Rangers' fans from Dumbarton where the home side managed to score 3 while keeping Hibs to a brace. It was looking like a fight to the wire for the top spot only a couple of weeks ago. Rangers are now 11 points clear & Hibs have a battle on with Falkirk for second place...

Liverpool 1-1 Man City
Manchester City win 3-1 on penalties
There is little doubt that Joe Hart is the number 1 goalkeeper at Citi. Willy Caballero waits in the wings in case he is injured. However he had been given the gloves for the Capital One Cup games & although this was a final Pellegrini stuck with him. That is, I think, pretty typical of the Citi manager who seems to me to be one of the few good guys in football.
After a game that Citi should have won quite easily if they (especially Sterling) had taken their chances ended in a draw then it was down to penalties. Here the keeper repaid his managers' faith in spades. 3 saves is pretty spectacular & ensured that Pellegrini wins at least one trophy in his final year!!

Zid must be a happier man this weekend than his namesake at the Bernabau. Turned over 1-0 at home in the Madrid derby (again). Conceited ***** Ronaldo passed up a few chances to score. Maybe his statement that he wished his team mates were as good as him isn't so true after all.

Superb \:D/

Rangers beat Raith Rovers 2-0 whilst main title rivals Hibs lose 1-0 away to Queen of the South. The gap now increased to 14 points with Hibs only one point ahead of third place Falkirk.

Walsall 0-0 Scunthorpe
Eastleigh 1-0 Cheltenham
Macclesfield 1-2 Torquay
Good away point at 3rd. placed Walsall for The Iron - although the home side have gone off the boil of late..
First loss in 22 games for Town. Worse it was a feeble own goal that did it. Town now just 1 point clear of Rovers who play on Friday to go top. Have Town bottled it, this close to the end??
The win takes Torquay out of the bottom 2 & they have played 3 & 4 games less than the two below them. Macclesfield are now just playing to season end & are looking forward to their holidays rather too much. :D
As socksy has already said, it was a great night for Rangers. It will now take an horrific drop in form for them not to win the Championship.

Indeed not a bad point for still managerless Scunny ... rumour on the beachfront promenade there saying Mr Swann is winging it to the end of the season .....this when Pelegrini will become available , apparently he doenst like the constant rainy weather in Manchester preferring the more tropical climate at the East coasts premier resort town .

Up the Iron ..claret n blue all way thru .

At the start of the year Macc were in the play off positions and the form team of the league. No wins since January 2 :( but no real injury problems and its basically the same team. :-k
Something must have happened behind the scenes and it could be the manager pays the price if this shocking form continues.

As I have said before, the promotion situation in The championship is akin to the race for the Premiership title - no one appears to want to win it.. :D
Last night it was Hull's turn to reach the heights again & it was another fail as manager Steve Bruce revisited one of his old clubs..
Birmingham 1-0 Hull
Tonight Middlesbrough can make their bid for the top
Middlesbrough V Wolves 19:45
This is what it looks like at the top - mighty close!!

Middlesbrough 2-1 Wolves
Forest Green 0-1 Grimsby
Well last night's results couldn't have gone any better..
Middlesbrough top of The Championship.
Forest Green not top of The Vanarama National League. :D

It was rather an easy night for Boro as Wolves rarely threatened the home side's net. Indeed they only managed a goal right at the end with the help of a deflection off Boro's Gibson. All those in contention for promotion (automatic & play off) have now played the same number of games, with only 4 points separating the top 4. Unless something dramatic happens in the next few weeks it will be 2 of Middlesbrough , Burnley, Hull & Brighton going into the Premiership with the other two entering the lottery of the play offs.

Grimsby were 3rd. in the league anyway so were never going to be easy push overs. They seemed to have the extra desire to win the game though, rather than settle for the draw. That paid off for them. It leaves them 13 points behind Rovers, but they do have 3 games in hand over their last night's rivals. Town remain a point clear at the top, but really need to take full advantage of the Rover's slip.

The Weekend
Scunthorpe V Gillingham
Altrincham V Macclesfield
Welling V Cheltenham
Worcester City V FC United of Manchester
Rangers have their hands full with a little thing called The William Hill Scottish Cup - Quarter-Finals.
Rangers V Dundee 12:30
