Motorcycle Accident, Expat

Post by parrot » February 29, 2016, 7:42 pm

A 37 year old man, Robert Hallin, died in a motorcycle accident this morning at 4AM. There's not a lot of info on the accident, but it appears the driver hit the wall near the airport.....possibly at the 90degree turn just before the entrance. The man was driving a Honda ZoomerX motorcycle. He died at the scene.

That makes two this week, one in loie as well. I ride them I know it[s dangerous I try to make the least amount of mistakes as possible. But I fall as well in my case when I'm going real slow.

The one in Loie speed related. Haven't looked at this one yet.

Impact against a solid object at speed or slow no head protection sadly only 1 winner. Please all members even if popping down the 7/11 wear a helmet fastened.

Not a bad idea my friend. You don't when where it will happen. Min so far I haven't slid in non movable objects. Even if you just slide that helmets is needed.

City officials were out inspecting the curvy road that passes by the airport.......the article mentions several accidents occurring in that area, especially after dark and late at night. The article mentions a 35 year old Swiss man who lost his life after he hit a wall while driving a motorcycle in the area on 26 Feb. No name given, but probably the same as mentioned above.

I had a feeling this might be a Swedish guy. The surname Hallin is Swedish so I googled a bit and found a facebook account "In Memory of Robert Hallin". Seems he leaves a 3 year old daughter behind in Udon. The facebook account has been opened to raise money for his daughters future education. RIP Robert

My apology......the article says he's Swedish, not Swiss. My mistake.

When I first came here 12 years ago, I could not understand how they managed to make a single carriage way road turn sharp right into a dual carriage way one or vice versa, after the ensuing 12 years, I now know how they did it, NOT THINKING, which unfortunately is part of the job description for road building here.
RIP young man .

Very true ..a combination of the school traffic , The evening market , the airport and a 7/11 with a dangerous u turn right out side make for chaotic scenes most tea time/early evenings ...add on the crazy sharp left hander at the end of the road just to compound things .

Having just seen the face book page posted by Alchai i recall 2 weeks ago chatting with Robert in the water offices at Nong Prajak whilst waiting to pay bills we commented on how busy the place was yet the service was very quick , he was with his daughter.

Such a waste of a young life , seemed like a real nice guy ...RIP .

The accident took place several hundred meters before the 90 degree turn, as you're heading on the 2 lane road toward the 4 lane airport road.
City workers have since painted raised white lines on the road just before the curve where the accident took place.

I think we went down this road last night after landing at Udon International, -does someone have a small map of the general danger area?

It's hard to establish from just the news texts.
