New thread for next season EPL 2015/16

Post by BobHelm » March 30, 2016, 6:14 pm

The Irish Times are reporting that Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot will be out for at least six months with the knee injury he suffered during Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Slovakia on Tuesday.
Tough, for player, club & country... :(

Sorry to put a spanner in the works of this lighthearted thread, but a large number of Thais haven't got the faintest idea of the Club behind the shirt they are wearing. Perhaps it's more about one which is available, looks good (to them anyway) and reasonable price at the market.
I cite the non-football shirts also, many with slogans, English which is often offensive, but they can't read it anyway!

Absolutely right. I remember visiting an orphanage in my early days in Thailand and there was a young lad kicking a football round with with a Liverpool shirt on. I asked him, in my broken Thai, who his favourite player was and he looked at me like I had asked him to repeat pi to 10 decimal places! My wife said " they don't have tvs, have no idea who Liverpool are so don't know what you are talking about. Its just a t shirt to him"

As an aside, I subsequently wrote to Ken Bates, then Chairman at Leeds and asked him if I could have some cast off shirts for the kids so I could educate them on a proper team. The response from a lackey was a very terse "no". That's Ken and modern football clubs for you!

Never a truer word posted on UM , Thais think of football shirts only as a fashion item with zero thought to the club behind the shirt , ... obviously if they did have a real interest and follow the real game in its purist form they would all be walking round in SCUNTHORPE UTD shirts ......wouldnt they ???? ....

Would it not be timely, and make practical sense, for this thread title to be adjusted to "EPL Season 2015/16"? This would then enable Socksby to get in early with the introduction of the "EPL Season 2016/17" thread!

I agree mathusalah80 and I'll leave it to someone else to start the new one for next season.

What a 'mare' Magpie. Maybe the fat lady is warming up for her encore. Grass roots could be my main contribution next season Zid. Villa must be the only team more nonsense than we are. The way we are even at the moment, Alan Hutton, the Villa right back could get a game for us. I've never seen a full back caught out of position so many times throughout a season and to top it all, yesterday he got a red. Tottenham signed this guy from Rangers a few years ago for 9 million quid. Unbelievable.

Newcastle's current defence is appalling. Steven Taylor as bad as it gets at that level and a midfielder who's average at best playing left back doesn't help. I know it's down to injuries but some terrible signings have been made. Not sure why Janmaat is so highly rated either.

No need to worry ? :-"

Newcastle have enough time to avoid relegation but must start winning, says manager Rafael Benitez.
The Magpies lost 3-2 at 17th-placed Norwich, despite having twice equalised, which leaves them six points adrift of the Canaries.
"It is more difficult but we have to keep confident that we can still do it," said Benitez.
"We have seven games to go and we have to keep pushing. If we start winning games we still have time,mi amigo socksy."

If Newcastle stay up I can't say they deserve to. Lack of ambition, ideas and fight. As mentioned the defence are atrocious, and the current squad would, I say be more suitable in the Championship as they simply aren't good enough for the EPL.
