Yellow Book and now Thai ID Card ( Pink)
Been reading that the authorities are now issuing a Thai ID card ( pink to identify an alien ) with every new Yellow Book. Hua Hin / Prachuapkirikhan Province to be exact.
Anyone recently applied for the YB and been given a Thai ID Card ( PINK ! )

Yellow Book and now Thai ID Card ( Pink)
Wazza,
My missus had me planned to go and get an ID card from the yellow book office on my last visit.
The bird who did my yellow book told her about it.
Didn't have time last trip in.
I will investigate further and try and find out the good and bad side of getting the ID card.
Info from forum people would be handy.

It is available from the Amphoe covering your home area, mine was got fron Nong Wau So. Available to all those on long stay visa, marriage or retirement. You need a yellow book, passport and if married, certificate, wife and her blue book with you . It costs 60bht. Mine took just 15 minutes to get, no one else in there. The registrar told me they have only issued 4 in total .Strange as the scheme has been going two years. The advantage of having it? Well as far as I can see , very limited. Firstly in bold black ink, it prominently states, This is not an identity card, is issued to a foreigner staying long term in Thailand .It does however have your blood group on which might be useful.Whether it can save us carrying our passports with us at all times, hasn't been decided, I get conflicting answers from the police, the majority opting for NO.The banks and others requiring identity proof do accept it .Whether it will get you Thai price in the parks I haven't tried yet .So it does seem of limited usefullness, but at 60bht?
Looking up the history of the thing when it was first issued two years ago, I get the impression it was thought of as a way to give identity to those multitude of stateless tribal groups that roam around in Thailand.
One further thing. It does say, not valid outside the area of issue. Now I have been assured by the boss at Amphoe that means the area of Thailand, not local area, but that was only a verbal answer and I have my doubts how that would be intepreted elsewhere .So it onlyt has limited use as far as I can see, but what the hell, only 60bht .Try it.

The latter statement is not true.papafarang wrote:couple of friends have them already 60 baht ,easy done and no more carrying a passport around
I have just received a definitive answer from the head of local police. Immigratrion law states that an alien(us) has to carry a valid passport with them at all times whilst in the Kingdom. That law has not changed, whilst he concedes an individual officer might accept the Id card, the onus is on us to produce our passport if requested, failure to do so can result in a prosecution. So no change there.

Went in alone today at 2:45, walked out about 20 minutes later. No problems, 60 Baht. What can I use it for....that I can't use my driver's license for? Who knows. But 60 baht?
I altered my personal info but left my photo intact.

Thank You very much for the pics. It is easier now to explain to wife what she should ask for.

Parrot, was this at the Nong Bua Amphur across from the Thai passport office?
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

I think it's been mentioned already.....but if you want to be in/out in a short time, go late in the afternoon. The fine staff there recommended 3PM. Mornings are typically packed.

I used my pink ID card recently as my check in ID when I flew from UDT to BKK. It has been useful a few times when I have been trying to set up a delivery, as it has my address written in Thai.
As far as carrying ID, I still carry a photocopy of my passport (info page and current stamp page) around, and carry my actual passport when I'm staying away from home. Unless you are dealing with immigration cops specifically checking on your status, you don't need your passport on your person at all times. Carrying a copy of your passport while your actual passport is safely tucked away has been the standard here for a long time. The last time some cops down in Bangkok tried to ticket tourists for no passport they were set straight by their bosses fairly quickly.

If it prominently states " this is not an identity card " what is the point of it ? Sounds like a waste of time in the office and 60 baht.trubrit wrote:It is available from the Amphoe covering your home area, mine was got fron Nong Wau So. Agree a waste of time for 99% for foreigners - as a driving license will do exactly the same thing - however I might think about one as I have been told it has ones blood group on it and yours truly has a silly blood group (saves carrying around a bit of paper with it written on)
