EUROPEAN 2016 Championship Finals France

Post by Zidane » June 21, 2016, 12:04 pm

I don't think most footie fans need all this statistical bollox to know that Sturridge had a bit of a stinker,old son ! =;
Are you trying to outdo 12345 with his American gun law statistics or what ? :-"

Anyway,tonite its Germany v Northern Ireland and Poland v Ukraine at 2am Thai time....it would be nice if the Irish could make the cut for the last 16,as well !

Just when I thought our chance had passed,you go and save the best for last.

I can't be as hard on England as some of you - perhaps my expectations are somewhat lower?
You won't see many Championship Finals level games like that when a team batters the other so completely, particularly second half. As the commentator said, England needed just a wee bit of luck to score and didn't get it. Slovakia defended so deep and like their lives depended on it. That said, of all the chances England had, not that many were on target. Far too many overhit balls - even Rooney guilty of that when he came on. I thought Clyne had a very good game - seemed to get past the defender every time. Alas, nothing made of the crosses. Too many English forwards not quite 'at the races'. Vardy needs space to use his speed, out run the opposition. He didn't find it here, or against Wales(bar the rather fortunate opposition mistake for the goal) in a tight defence. Need a no-nonsense, bully of a striker, who is going to get on the end of some of these chances.
Now, how many would those clinical Germans have scored?
Well done Wales. Pleased for Ledley. Love the dance!

Perhaps some of us are now starting to think that perhaps it is not just "a wee bit of luck" that England need, it's a coach and players who can think and act for themselves to MAKE something happen .............. It seems strange that England have been without a "wee bit of luck" at every tournament for 50 years

Only the 2 worst positioned 3rd. placed teams fail to go through to the last 16.
With only 2 of the 3rd. placed places to be decided, Northern Ireland are currently in 2nd. place in that mini-league & so must qualify no matter what the results are tonight - congratulations to them!!

Spain will play Italy in the last 16 of Euro 2016 after a late Croatia winner condemned them to second in Group D.
I bet neither side wanted that for their last 16 fixture!!

Very true,Bob.....also if England successfully negotiate one of Portugal,Hungary,Iceland or Austria its odds on they will face France in Paris in the quarter finals.....a situation that would have been avoided if we had beaten Slovakia and Woy wouldn't have made un-necessary changes for that game.
But many congratulations to Northern Ireland in reaching the last 16 =D>

Spain.....again plenty of possession but no end product.....they just haven't got a decent striker,I'm afraid.

I'm sure they will find one b4 they have to play England Zid :lol:

Funny though the Jeermans are saying the same thing they have quality everywhere else but no striker.

Perhaps we can give them one of ours ....... I wonder who?

Hodgson should make the ultimate sacrifice, and GIVE them Rooney. :D \:D/
Our bet is on tonight , but don't forget my caveat,( namely that the bet is subject to Robby Keane appearing in the starting lineup).

I am certainly impressed that all 4 of the home nations managed to qualify for the last 16.

A real pity that Northern Ireland will meet Wales & so one of them will leave.

The Republic face a stern test against the hosts who have looked as good as anyone so far.

England play the last match against surprise package Iceland. Iceland qualified with ease & have yet to be beaten in the competition.
Realistically, England should steamroller them into the ground. However, except for the second half performance against Wales, you wouldn't want to bet anything on this England side... :shock:

Good morning readers from a drizzly Manchester.....no,wait I'm in Udon Thani but the weather is similar to what we wake up to in Manchester 300 days of the year.....well,maybe 30f warmer over here ! ;)
Many congratulations to the Republic of Ireland on qualifying for the last 16. =D> I was in a dilemma here as my gran was from County Cork but in the bet mat80 had the Republic to win.However,it seems I got the best of both worlds with the Republic winning but Robbie Keane not featuring in the game which made the bet null and void \:D/
See mat 80's post below before yesterdays game. =;

So,in my book that leaves the Chardonnay challenge tied at 1-1.Never mind,as a fair minded person,I will give you a good chance to win a bottle of Chardonnay,as a decider,on another topical subject.
Today Britain votes on wether or not to leave the EU.I say they will vote to REMAIN which means you have BREXIT.
According to the opinion polls it will be very close so you have a 50/50 chance.....please give your agreement before 6pm Thai time tonight for the bet to be valid.

Anyway,back to Euro 2016.....England certainly have the tougher half of the draw.
I think teams like Croatia and Belgium will be fancying their chances of going all the way to the Final.
Old Woy certainly shot himself in the foot.....similar to mat80,really ! :D

I WILL ACCEPT THE BET, ON THE CONDITION YOU AGREE THE SCOTTISH VOTES ARE EXCLUDED, IN SO FAR AS OUR BET IS CONCERNED? :-" ;) \:D/ You have 1000minutes within which to accept.

Old Woy certainly shot himself in the foot.....similar to mat80,really ! :D
I will be patient. What goes around, comes around. [-X

Since I know you have been waiting impatiently for my valued views on the performances of the British teams, and their immediate prospects, so hope to get around to posting thereon, tomorrow.

Just a thought, but I wonder if France would have been in the same half of the draw if Mons Sewer Platini was still pulling the strings?? :-" #-o

No,I'm not taking that one up....its all or nothing.....its all the votes for REMAIN or BREXIT to count.
You cant keep on making provisos in bets like you want the draw as well or depends on a certain player appearing....you'll be wanting my teams to win by at least 2 clear goals for the bet to count next ! =;

In the "easier" side of the draw I quite fancy Croatia more than Belgium.The Belgians look a good side on paper but have blown hot and cold,so far.....none more than Khuns Lukaku and Hazard.

The remainder of the Euro 2016 competition has had to be cancelled after England & Wales voted to go home and took the ball with them :shock:
