Well, today we had the draw for the EFL Cup first-round.
What the ^^^^ you may cry is the EFL. Well it is the new acronym for what used to be the League Cup. Was that, originally the Milk Cup, or is my memory fading??

It is (probably sensibly) divided into North & South for the first round.

While Englands displays at Euro 2016 have left us all "mesmerised"

its worth noting that the Copa America has been taking place in America at the same time.
Holders Chile retained the trophy after beating Argentina 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in extra time.The match was notable for Lionel Messi missing a penalty then announcing his retirement from international football.
In the semi finals Argentina thumped the USA 4-0 and Chile beat Colombia 2-0.
Brazil had an awful tournament,not even getting out of their group after they were beaten 1-0 by Peru and held to a 0-0 draw by Ecuador.Manager,Dunga,paid the price by having to make a swift Brexit after Brazil were eliminated.

Nearer to home,in the Champions League first qualifying round,Welsh champions The New Saints (TNS) beat Tre Penne 2-1 in the first leg.Tre Penne are the champions of San Marino for those who don't know.....had to google it myself

Newcastle United boss,Rafa Benitez,busy making a few signings as The Toon aim to regain their Premiership status at the first attempt.
But it looks as though long serving keeper,Tim Krul,could be moving on......

Newcastle United have signed Gent keeper Matz Sels for a reported £5m - Rafael Benitez's first signing as boss.
The 24-year-old, who has played for Belgium up to under-21 level, helped Gent to the 2014-15 Belgian league title and played in the Champions League the following season.
Sels, the Belgian goalkeeper of the year for 2015, has signed a five-year deal at the Championship club.

Newcastle United have also signed Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle(as mentioned on the EPL thread) and Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie, both on five-year deals.
Gayle, 25, scored 26 goals in 74 games for Palace after joining them from Peterborough for £6m in July 2013.
Scotland winger Ritchie, 26, featured 42 times last season as the Cherries maintained their top-flight place

Blimey,its only a season ago he was playing in the Premiership with West Ham.....now released by League 2,Leyton Orient.......maybe he will join Peter Schmeichel at Everton ?

Former player-manager Kevin Nolan has left Leyton Orient, the League Two club have announced.
Ex-Newcastle and West Ham midfielder Nolan joined the O's in January, but lost his managerial role when Andy Hessenthaler took over in April.
The 34-year-old won seven of his 15 games during his time in charge.
He became the youngest boss in the Football League when he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the London club and played 14 games for them.
The former Newcastle and West Ham midfielder made 14 appearances for Orient, starting 12 times.

Newcastle hoping Jesus can get them back into the Premiership....
Championship side Newcastle United have signed full-back Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid on a two-year deal.
The 31-year-old, who plays predominantly on the right, was a regular in the Atleti matchday squad last season, playing 16 games.
He joined from Malaga in 2014 having made 289 appearances for the Malaguistas during a nine-season spell.

Former Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa has quit as Lazio coach just two days after taking charge of the Italian club.
The 60-year-old was named by Lazio on Wednesday as a replacement for Stefano Pioli, who was sacked in April.
The Rome-based Serie A club announced on Friday that Argentine Bielsa had resigned but gave no other details

Apparently Bielsa is saying that when he signed the contract he was promised the name of 5 players who had already agreed to sign for Lazio.
But when he started the job he found out that Lazio had not contacted any of these players.
Lazio also released 17 players at the end of last season and now have a threadbare squad.

Certainly a case of "Don't cry for me Argentina"......

I forgot to mention that Bielsa was being talked about as a future Everton manager not so long ago,so maybe a lucky escape for The Toffees !

Now,this keeper I really rate having watched him on the box playing for Falkirk.....surprised an English Championship or even Premiership side didn't come in for him ?
I'm sure socksy knows him and could well rate him highly too.....

Aberdeen goalkeeper Danny Rogers will return to Scottish Championship side Falkirk on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old made 44 appearances for Falkirk last season, helping Peter Houston's men to the play-off final.
His performances earned him a place in the PFA Scotland Championship team of the year.
"You know what you get with Danny, a solid, hardworking goalkeeper and a great all-round character," Houston told the official Falkirk website.
"The improvement in his game throughout last season was fantastic and I'm sure he will continue that development over the course of this season."
Falkirk just missed out on promotion last season after losing 4-1 on aggregate to Kilmarnock in the Premiership play-off final.
Rogers, who has been capped at under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland, said: "I'll never forget those play off matches last year and the atmosphere at them all was incredible

The 31-year-old Senegal international scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for the Magpies after arriving from Freiburg in January 2012.

But, having failed to help Newcastle retain their Premier League status under Rafael Benitez last season, his four-and-a-half-year spell on Tyneside has come to an end.

A Newcastle statement read: "Everyone at St. James' Park wishes Papiss all the best for the next stage of his career."

Can't say i'm shocked or unhappy ....... overstayed his time by at least a season

In contrast the player confirmed his move to China was a wise one with the main stumbling block being the language barrier ...... HE HAD SUFFERED IN NEWCASTLE for the last season or so ???

Well after watching 'pish' (well the majority of it) for the last fortnight or so, it's back to the real world on Saturday with the first games in 'jockland' including the League Cup (new format) Motherwell v Rangers 3 pm UK time on BT Sports1. The hierarchy at Ibrox are trying to convince the 'bears' fans not to carry out their away game threat of not travelling to them in protest against all the clubs who voted for us to go to the bottom tier a few season's ago.

The Football League and Conference clubs start their season on 6th August with the EPL the following week.
