March Madness - NCAA US Men's College Basketball Tournament
March Madness - NCAA US Men's College Basketball Tournament
March Madness is upon us. Any bracketologists out there. The field seems wide open for the big dance. Who will be the No. 1 seeds? Buckeyes, Jay hawks, Badgers and Bruins? Who are the Winthrop Eagles? Never heard of them. No way they can make the Sweet Sixteen.
I was downtown Atlanta this week for corporate meetings (just shoot me please...) with the SEC playoffs starting up -- what a mess.
Florida got a bye for the first round -- GO GATORS (sorry, just a little prejudiced there). Vanderbilt also a bye. Both are playing tonight.
So far...
SEC:
Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU won.
SC, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn are out.
ACC:
GA Tech lost ot Wake Forest.
Duke is out (WOW!)
Interesting weekend coming up.

If someone would kindly confirm if the subject of this thread is baseball or American football, I will amend the title of the topic to something a little more obvious, so that I, and I guess some others, don't keep opening it to see what it's about, only to find it's not in my "ball park" and of no interest!

Not baseball or American football......... basketball........ college basketball to be exact. March Madness is one of the premier sporting events in the USA. I just wish Thai TV recognized that.
Personally, I wouldn't waste 2 seconds of my time watching professional basketball from America...... but NCAA college basketball is outstanding entertainment. Those kids play so hard for their college or university.

March Madness? College basketball, of course!
Here's a good, printable bracket schedule for the NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament:

Not everyone's cup of tea but great fun to watch and follow the eliminations. I'm pulling for my home state Michigan State but they're a longshot. Wouldn't be surprised to see North Carolina vs Kansas in the final game.
Go Spartans! =D>

Oh that will be the "mundane, boring soccer, a girls game in the USA" that attracted over one billion viewers globally for the World Cup final.
Now how does college basketball viewing figures compare I wonder.

In case you hadn't noticed, we are not in Kansas anymore Toto.

I could have sworn I've seen those two ladies in Croydon, South London the one on the right even has a "Croydon Facelift". Where's the sick bag.
Don't get in a snit, guys. Soccer (or football) is a great game and the World Cup is the most popular sporting event, hands down, worldwide. Enjoyed the games last year and have been a casual fan since the '60s. Always pulled for England although there were a few years when Pele was at his best.....
Back on topic, who you picking, mackayae? Interesting stuff about sons of Yannick Noah and Patrick Ewing. Haven't been able to watch any college games this year and do miss it.
BTW, I wasn't dropped off here during a tornado and do realize this isn't Kansas.

I'm in the States right now. I miss all the beautiful Thai women, but I am in Hoops Heaven. I'm flying to Vegas tomorrow so I'll be kicking back in a sportsbook all day Thursday and Friday watching ALL the games.
Easy to go with the favorites, but I'm hopping on the Texas Longhorn's bandwagon. That kid Durant is awesome.
Now consider the plight of a US sports fan: My sports are never on local cable TV, only occassionaly on UBC (with live broadcasts on in the wee hours of the morning ), and given the barest of coverage on the 5th or 6th page of the Bangkok Post sports page. The only way I can follow my sports with any regularity is through the internet.
It's really a treat to be back in the US right now and basking in the glow of college basketball, NBA, NHL, spring training baseball, and NFL draft talk. The Phoenix sports page was 17 pages thick last Sunday and not one mention of the Premiership. I imagine you Brits must hate vacationing in the US.
Of well, I'll enjoy the NCAA tournament for the next two weeks and then return to the land of gorgeous Thai women. Sacrifices must be made.

You are absolutely correct, it's popular everywhere in the world EXCEPT in the US. Stop for a second and consider how good you footie fans have it - you enjoy all the "perks" of living in Thailand AND the locals love your favorite sport. I swear anytime I turn on Sophon Cable TV, regardless of the time of day, there is always a footie match on.Oh that will be the "mundane, boring soccer, a girls game in the USA" that attracted over one billion viewers globally for the World Cup final.
