NK's SkyWalk glass bridge is AMAZING!
About a 2-hour drive (at a sensible speed) from NK (proper, in the Loei direction) is the new SkyWalk (a glass bridge with truly phenomenal views of the surrounding area).
What really got me most was the genuine trad Thai village (as in NOT a sleepy suburb but REAL rural) as you immediately enter/leave the place.
A fab day out!

Fred, I'll assume you had someone with you who had a smartphone for photos. Please post some.
I am interested on my return to visit to Thailand to get out and explore something new.
Bit more info if you or others have some to share.
Did you find any problems with traffic or crowds in the local vicinity? Morning or afternoon visit?
I need to add an activity to another planned full day trip to Nong Khai and surrounds.
If I can get the tribe out early we can get there mid morning. Before the heat.

If you do that drive again Fred go all the way to Loei, it's one of my favorite roads in Thailand, the river on one elbow mountains on the other, rich soil and food growing everywhere, beautiful.

We went to the Skywalk yesterday, Wednesday. 2.5 hour drive from the southeastern Ring Rd. Got there about 1230. A bit of a weird feeling walking out on the see through platform hanging out over a cliff....thinking Thai Engineering Took some coaxing to get my lady to make the walk. She had a death grip on the hand rail the entire way. Ah, the views are spectacular. She talked to some of the locals that say it gets busy on the weekends. Temple opens at 0600 and closes 1800. We then drove on to Chang Khon along the river and spent the night, a really beautiful drive.

I am guessing this Skywalk has been built to attract the Chinese. Glass bridges and 'Skywalks' are sprouting like mushrooms all over China - they are crazy about them..

The commentator states up to 20 people are allowed on the Skywalk at any one time.
I counted more than 60 on the video for the opening ceremony there again TIT.

They are very safety conscious as we all know & I am sure the organizers weighed everyone beforehand.

Re: NK's SkyWalk glass bridge is AMAZING!
it's ok pal52, the skywalk is only the little bit at the end, and there were only a few on that. All the rest were standing on the concrete bit, which (based on their concrete roads) is far more likely to give way than the glass

We like to stay at Mekong Riverside Resort which is near Pakchom. Pleasant and peaceful surroundings and the owners are very accommodating.

Once you get to the Sky Walk you will notice a village on the river below. Just after the small bridge entering the village there are 2 Resorts one on either side of the road. We stayed at the one on the riverside. Nice riverside atmosphere as well as good Thai and Western food. Rooms are Hotel type as well as small Resort cabins. A Thai/American couple are the owners. Their son speaks English very well. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the Resort. Drive back to the main road turn left along the Mekong about 7Km. Weekends are very busy in that area. Also flood issues now.
