Why must we have B 65K monthly? Curious.

Post by Mudguard » September 11, 2016, 2:04 pm

Why must a retiree be on B 65k per month when I live like a individual on 35 to 40k a month and still save?
I live very comfortably on my OZ pension in Thailand then I would ever be able to in Australia...
I used to teach at Phuket resorts and convent school in BKK before retiring years ago..
I also support someone to go to Uni...and pay my car off..
My Thai teacher friends do not get what I get monthly....
Could any member enlighten me on this subject please... [-o<

I understand why we need it.

Insurance + Hospitals bills + dentist bills, medication bills, , car mortgage, house rent, power bill , Tv, schools bills, gasoline, holidays with families and so on.

Myself use around 90k every month

It is the rule set by Thai Immigration. 65K/month or 800k in a bank account or a combination that makes up 800K/year.

I'm agree with you. I think Thailand has become very expensive the last 3 years. The Baht is very strong against Western currencies.

When i arrived here 5 years ago to retire, was a milk 1.8 l about 70 baht, now 91baht.

But milk is only one commodity and what caused the rise of the cost of milk is not likely to affect other commodities, other than general taxes.

And just as every person is different, their financial resources and choices of spending are different.

It was just one example. Pig was 110 baht/ kg now 160 baht/kg - 30 eggs was about 55 now 104 and so on.

But yes we have different style of life, therefore it's impossible to say like live like a individual for 45k every month it all depends what you pay for. ;)

The question has been answered! it is the requirement for this type of visa!

What is odd is the amount has been the same for quite some years now! I am on my 11th retirement visa and the amount has always been 65k a month or 800k in bank. Whoever decided this amount in the first place and based on what? if the amount was to be recalculated based on the original numbers/cost of living increases etc the required amount now would be ~ 85k a month based on cost of living increase of 2.74% average for the past ten years.!
Makes no sense to me [-(

Assuming my math is correct......I hope you didn't expect 72 Baht to the GBP to be the normal.

so why do we only need 40.000 a month if we are married?but you could be single and retired but still need 65k a month?

Some (probably still not married) officer made the incorrect decision that wives are cheaper than bargirls

You are right, i was thinking the same that's why, I have ask someone there is making visas for people there don't have the requirement for a Visa or retirement extension. I have been told from the person the reason is that when you are married your partner should have a income and share expensives

For me it sound logic

I have often thought about this figure and although I may be completely off target, the average senior official earns about 60 odd k a month, he may get other fringe benefits, so I thought probably wrongly that the figure of 65 k a month was thought about in the case of being married logic does not follow that you need half that, assuming your wife has a job and income is erroneous, but this is Thai logic not farang logic.
