Thanks for the info on transfer times, I think with bag collection, immigration etc
I had better allow at LEAST 2 hrs between flights, however I've found that by pre booking BKK to Udon in the UK as part of my Thai Air flight from Heathrow I can get a return ticket for ฃ25 (about 1625 baht) , and I believe that Thai Air are keeping their domestic flights from the new airport - of course things could change - they seem to do so daily !

I would snap them up at 25 quid for a return flight. Thats less than the NokAir price for a single journey - and of course you stay at the same airport for the connecting flight - almost worth the 25 quid in itself !

Bad News....Looks like Thai Air domestic flights are moving to DM. Just got this email from the travel agent I use in BKK:

"My colleague just checked with Thai Airways this morning and learned that most domestic routings of Thai Airways as well as Udonthani will be changed from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Meuang airport since the 25th March 2007 onward also flights number to and from Udonthani changed.

We have already noted your International flight on April 27 in the airline system. The airline will arrange shuttle bus service from Don Meuang to Suvarnabhumi airport and vice versa for the customers. For more information, you can ask the airline officer upon check-in."

Please forgive me if I have missed the comment.

But would someone know if all domestic flights have moved back to Don Meung airport, in particular those flights that go Udon Thani. And, will any of the carriers supply transport from airport to the other and vis versa?

Cheers

Thai Airways and AirAsia are staying at the new airport. Nok air is moving as previously posted. If traffic is light you can get from the new to the old airport in about 30 mins. If traffic is heavy you can probably double that. People who want to get a connecting flight to Udon should not use Nok air unless they want the hassle and cost of a taxi at inflated new airport prices. TIT

Transport Minister Thira Haocharoen and entourage looked over the passenger terminal in Don Muang Airport yesterday (Mar 14). He says the airport will be ready to operate on its reopening day on March 25th.

Admiral Thira says three airlines, including Thai Airways, Nok Air, One-Two-Go, will use Don Muang Airport, and it will support 80 flights per day. He says it is not imperative if some vendors in the airport may not be ready to service the customers on time since they can finish setting up their stores later.

Thai Airways chairman Chalit Pukbhasuk says the board of Thai Airways has considered the readiness of its flights to Don Muang Airport from March 25th onwards. He says Don Muang Airport will support 31 flights of Thai Airways every day. He says the code for flights to Don Muang Airport will be DMK while the flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport will still be BK.

Oh bloody 'ell, I don't know if I'm coming or going !!! Thai are staying - Thai are moving - Thai are staying - Thai are moving - This could only happen in the LOS !
Thai Air have just taken off their link flight from BKK to Udon on my flight from Heathrow so it looks as if the move to DM airport is a reality, my booking agent has no info on why the link flight has been cancelled but it seems to me to tie in with a move to DM. I will now have to book this flight when I arrive in BKK. Bet my ฃ25 refund will not cover this !

So it seems you can fly(Thai-Airways) in to the new airport on/up to the 24th march, but will be returning to Don Muang (DMK)and have to get to the "new" airport after that date , or until they fix the "new" airport i suppose.

What a f***ing mess. Thanks to all the forum member who are trying to keep us up-to-date on this fiasco. I'm flying from BKK to Hanoi on April 20 with Air Asia. I assume they will still be flying out of the new apirport, but who knows? Things seem to change daily.

Just got confirmation from my booking agent that I will have to transfer to DM to fly to Udon , the Thai air website will not let them book the flight straight through so my ticket has been reduced to Heathrow - BKK, travel across to DM , (they say there will be a shuttle bus available but do not know if it is free), they can book a seperate ticket DMK to UTH, but it's at the full fare not at the reduced fare of ฃ25
I did have when I booked Heathrow to UTH via BKK.
As things are still up in the air (pun !) I think I'll have a couple of nights around Bangkok on both inward & outward journies and take it as I find it  Hope the TGF understands that it's not my fault !

Sounds like a plan. Chill out in NEP or Patpong while the airlines sort things out.

I would be tempted to hop on the late train to Udon (1st class cabin or 2nd sleeper, of course) and be rested from some of the jet lag by the time you get here in the morning. You could take the bus but, fuhgeddaboutit, I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.
