Briton faces jail over Thai sex resort

A Briton is accused of running a sex resort in Thailand
A Briton who set up a swingers club in rural Thailand faces jail for promoting sex tourism.
Anthony Craig is under investigation for charging guests ฃ100 a night for sex with unlimited partners, including girls aged 18 to 25 and transsexual 'ladyboys'.
The 57-year-old says on his website that all his sex workers are anxious to meet foreigners and 'sh*g like rabbits'.
Guests are picked up discreetly from Udon Thani airport and taken to Resort Caroline in the remote Nong Saeng district, five miles from the nearest village.
Mr Craig, who with Thai wife Lampan, 31, is on ฃ4,600 bail, says in his promotional literature: 'I have helped village girls find fun and rich western boyfriends and husbands.
'My hedonistic business is aimed at soft-play couples and shy single men. It started off as a nudist resort and my guests sort of changed things. My ethos is live and let live.'
The former builder, from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, adds that he only allows people over 18 to take part in the orgies and he never joins in.
'I make more friends than enemies but my enemies are the unseen bigots that condemn my way of life because of their myopic outlook,' he says.
About 6,000 swingers, mainly from Britain, are thought to have visited the resort since it opened four years ago. Its gatehouse is manned by Mr Craig's Thai mother-in-law.
Police chief Teerasak Krinponsa said: 'These swingers and this resort are giving Thailand a bad name.'

Way to go jack, although I agree with Tony's philosophy "live and let live". I do question one's intelligence when one engages in such activities. We are here as guests and our visas can be denied/revoked with relative ease. I tease my wife, she needs to build 3 or 4 short time rooms on her land in Surin. She is always talking about taking friends to visit especially for elephant round-up, my thinking is that if falangs are involved they would prefer to have private bath. But maybe not a good idea;o)

Fact of the matter is that there are a lot of Thais that are engaged in the "swinging life." There are "swinger's resorts" around the world. Not everyone here may agree with them or the hedonistic life style - but it is a reality of life.
The problem with this set up is that they were hiring prostitutes to "service" their clients. For that reason, I can agree with shutting them down, and running them out of the country.

daily mail.co.uk . i did'nt post the first half as it was more or less what Lee posted already.Craig had his own website and charged guests ฃ100 a night about four times the rate of most hotels in the province, but the price included free sex with unlimited partners.
Guests were picked up discreetly from flights at Udon Thani airport. The nature of the resort was a well-guarded local secret, but widely known on the internet.
Provincial Police chief General Teerasak Krinponsa said: "This was not good. These swingers and this resort are giving Thailand a bad name. This sort of thing should not happen here".
When police raided the resort they found five girls aged between 21 and 15 and a 17-yr old lady boy.
The resort was in a remote area and surrounded by a high wall. Craig's Thai mother-in-law manned the gatehouse. Visitors would pass through the main gate, and 100 yards later go through a door to the inner sanctum.
The General conceded that the resort was quite beautiful and included a swimming pool and dolphin mosaics.
In his mission statement Craig claims: "Here in remotest Isan (north east Thailand) I have taught in schools and fed the poor sick and aged. I have made hundreds of friends and helped village girls find fun and rich western boyfriends and husbands.
"My hedonistic business is aimed at soft play couples and shy single men. I started off as a nudist resort and my guests sort of changed things. My ethos is live and let live.
"I make more friends than enemies, but my enemies are the unseen bigots that condemn my way of life because of their myopic outlook.
"No-one comes into my world unless they want to and then only if they are over 18. Nobody does anything here, unless it's what they want. I never join in with the parties because I am happily married and not in need of more fun."
While Thailand is infamous for its sex industry, it does not officially exist. Bars and clubs in Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya, which offer both men and women for sex, are not recognised by police as sex venues, provided they pay their monthly stipends to police.
And his web site for the place has been shut down too.
Please correct me, but according to this statement, EVERY bar, EVERY MASSAGE Place with women behind the window, .... should be UNDER INVESTIGATION.
but I can not agree with a law that allows women behind a window in a massage place and it wouldn't allow this just because there is a farang involved. (there is no such law!!!!!). The police allows or they are themselves involved in the business.
I think that Thai officials have to think twice before they make this kind of statements:
Ok, I also want to see him go, but don't make statements like this.
I believe it is wrong for the provincial chief of police to give a statement like this. He should be more honest and fight the total prostitution problem in Thailand and not blow up one case because there is a farang involved.
I even would say that when a higher police officer makes a statement like this, I tend to feel that this kinds of statements gives a bad name to thailand. It even sounds racist to me. Every body knows that there is prostitution all over thailand. The police turns a blind eye to this. And now they find here one stupid farang and what happens:......

It took 4 years for the " swingers joint" in the area to get a tug,so he may have had the best out of it already.
The way the reports read It seems the guy in Udon area was actually charging for sex with girls, then it must be promoting prostitution i suspect, i was under the impression that swinging was couples and or singles that mingled together and had fun,with-out the ties or any payment involved(maybe a membership to a club), don't know too much regarding this lifestyle only what you pick-up on in lifes journey, if anyone knows better do tell.

People had to look pretty hard to find this place, its not somewhere you could stumble into and they paid a high price (literally) to enjoy themselves with other like minded consenting adults. It is my understanding that the paying guests at the resort did not pay any of the girls (or boys)directly for sexual services encountered - so therefore what have they done wrong?
I believe from quite some time ago when I first heard about this story that many of the girls who go there do it for no payment and for whatever their reason may be - if it to be to find a farang boyfriend or whatever - just as they voluntarily go to Pattaya or Phuket to do the same.
Its just one more case of major hypocracy from the powers that be - the same powers that be who flirt - big time with anything in a skirt that breathes.
And whilst some on here are condeming the guy for whatever wrongful doing he has or has not done - lets cast our minds back about a year or so ago when the place was mentioned on this very forum. I didn't hear any cries of 'stone him' then - in fact most members were in agreement that it would be a rather 'interesting' place to hold a forumites meeting (if expensive) - remember ???? (tongue in cheek or otherwise)
Let he who have no guilt, cast the first stone so they say !
Its hardly the crime of the century - especially here in Thailand

Reasonable action taken ...
Prostitution is the sale of sexual services (examples: oral sex, sexual intercourse) for money. A person selling sexual services is a prostitute, a type of sex worker. In a more general sense of the word, anyone selling their services for a cause thought to be unworthy can be described as prostituting themselves.
A pimp finds and manages clients for prostitutes and engages them in prostitution (in brothels in most cases and some cases street prostitution) in order to profit from their earnings. Typically, a pimp will not force prostitutes to stay with him, although some have been known to be abusive in order to keep their prostitutes in line or to maximize profits. A pimp may also offer to protect his prostitutes from rival pimps and prostitutes, or from abusive clients. He can also enable a prostitute to work in a particular area under his control. Pimping is a sex crime in most jurisdictions.
Most people who work managing prostitutes are men, but some women work in this capacity as well, though rarely in street prostitution. Women are rarely called pimps, as the word implies male dominance (see Pimps in Popular Culture below) - a woman who manages prostitutes is generally called a madam. (This should not be confused with the title of respect given to adult women in most English-speaking countries.)
Often, low level pimps will initially present themselves as lovers or father-figures to prostitutes (who may be run-aways or otherwise lack a family network) before introducing them to prostitution and perhaps drug addiction. This practice is called "turning out." Most pimp-prostitute relationships are suggestive and guided while others are abusive, using psychological intimidation, manipulation and physical force to control the members in the "stable".

Guests at “Carolina Resort” didn’t stay there for free and “various sexual activities” where obviously inclusive - and prime part of the trade..
Locals from outside where paid for attending the “parties”.
There where frequently young persons aged between 15 and fewer than 18 years of age involved.
According to press reports, the police interrupted some illicit activities. Therefore facts are quite clear. …
This would just enough for police to press criminal charges against the management of this establishment. It seams that the management ignored the law of Thailand quite obviously.
The summary of this kind of activities wouldn't just be illegal in Thailand but in almost any European country, including UK.

He has been running the buisness for 4 years, seems the authorities must of been ignorant to it or maybe they could'nt they get past the mother-in Law at the gate-house to the quite beautiful resort and the swimming pool with dolphin mosiacs.
i would'nt say he was a "stupid farang" as stated earlier, quite the oppersite charging 7000baht for a room per night not including extra charges along the line Tours/food etc, not sure what the occupancy rate would be but after 4 years of trading in buisness he probably done very well indeed.
if he escapes a jail sentence he would be doing even better.
