I went to see Everton once.
Urchins asked me if I wanted them to mind my car.
I pointed to my doberman in the back seat. "No need young man" I said. "He'll do that."
"Can he put out fires?"
I paid.

Wayne Rooney break-in bid: Man jailed

An ex-serviceman who tried to break in to Wayne Rooney's home while he was playing in his testimonial match at Old Trafford has been jailed.
Robert McNamara, 24, of Scarborough, had pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court to attempting to enter as a trespasser with intent to steal.
The alarm at the footballer's £6m property in Prestbury, Cheshire, was triggered on 3 August, the court heard.
McNamara was sentenced to two years and eight months.
'Sleepless nights'
Rooney, his wife, Coleen, and their three sons, Kai, Klay and Kit, were attending the charity tribute game against his first club Everton when the break-in bid took place.
In a victim impact statement read in court, Mrs Rooney said the incident had caused "sleepless nights" and had made her fear for the safety of their three children while they played in the garden.
She said the couple had spent extra money on security since the incident as she "no longer felt comfortable" at home unless accompanied.

Its doubtful if I will have internet access for the next few days.My main objectives will be finding somewhere for Xmas dinner and somewhere that will have the Boxing Day footie on in Bangkok, where I can enjoy a quiet beer...... or two ! :D
So I would like to take this opportunity to wish my many readers on the footie forum, both home and overseas,a very Merry Xmas ! Have a good one ! :drunk:

I won't comment much because opinion is very mixed. There have been one or two awful games, but generally the team has not been playing that badly and, although some will laugh, I really don't feel they've been getting a fair share of any luck going for some time. One cannot ignore, however, whatever the excuses having validity or not, that I think it's still the case that Palace have the worst 2016 calendar year record out of ALL clubs in the top leagues. That takes some doing! I'm surprised he got the boot, because he had special links with the Club, but goes to show that Premiership survival is paramount.
I imagine part reason for Palace moving now is that a new guy can have a role in the transfer window.
Not sure I'd really want Big Sam. Chris Coleman? - another cult hero at Palace?

I should add, of course, that Geordie fans should be happy anyway. After all, you've got 'hot' Gayle and we've Townsend who, putting it politely, hasn't impressed yet.

He was very impressive at the "Toon" ....... I remember it clearly (15:52 on 2nd April) ...... tripped over his right foot whilst walking off at half time and landed on his knees

Big Sam will sort you out Brian ...... wont be pretty, but nor was Tony P and many Palace fans were sad to see him leave :-k

We have to say the attempt by Palace under Pardew to move to a more, most fans would say, attractive style of play failed. A lot of games these days are won by teams willing to sit back, let the other team have the bulk of possession and play on the break, rely on set plays etc. The Pulis style is very defensive, yet successful with Palace in getting them out of a big hole.Whilst grateful to avoid the drop, I don't think Palace fans were exactly impressed with him walking out on the Club, literally just before season start and, as we know, the court has told him to pay back money.
I really do feel Palace's near-relegation position is false and the league is very tight. But too many untypical defensive mistakes, key players under-performing and not a fair share of luck. A couple of wins and you move way up. I'm not over the moon about Big Sam's appointment, which Statto rightly says will not be that attractive, but everyone knows that with the money involved, survival is the first priority. Bit of a sad situation really.

Hmmm, Liverpool - Stoke today.

Lawro predicts a 3-0 win for Herr Klopp and Mark Hughes's form at Anfield has not been that good. He's never had a win there as a manager.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38375153

This one is a toughie as Stoke have alot of heart and people were pointing out Liverpool's weak defence at the Bournemouth game a couple of weeks back. The form over both teams' last four games isn't all that different either. Essentially, Liverpool have two wins to Stoke's one with a draw in lieu of the win.

John Barnes in the Daily Express notes that Liverpool have just come off two wins with Stoke's last two games being draws.

OK, I'll stick my neck out and go for a Liverpool win at 1-0 but this could well be a draw.

Pool were 1 down after 12 minutes, it was all them after that though!! :D
Bob Bradley: Swansea City sack American manager
http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38442329

He lasted longer than Big Sam at England I suppose.. :D
A terrible appointment from the start. It will be interesting to see who the clueless owners give the job to now. Indeed who will want it, at the moment the Swans look a racing certainty for the drop & that is as much from the players tat they have there as anything. The January transfer market is a real lottery with the odds heavily stacked in favour of buy ins being a failure.
5 managers in 3 years is not a way to build success at any club though..
