[quote="Zidane"]Tottenham Hotspur 2 Chelsea 0. A superb performance by the Spurs !....Chelsea,a bit off colour, were well beaten....
One man's opinion.
A full stadium; both teams at full strength and Hazard, of all people, missing a clear chance to score within the first three minutes. For virtually the remainder of the first half, the game was even, with Chelsea looking superior in attack, yet never really threatening to overcome a superbly organized Spurs defence; which was proving particularly adept at closing down, and frustrating, Hazard & DeCosta, immediately either of them gained possession.
Just on half time, Walker won the ball in midfield, sent a pinpoint pass to Eriksen on the right, who sent a beautifully measured cross into Chelsea's goalmouth, from where the currently unstoppable Dele headed into the top corner of the net. A Spurs trademark quickly executed counterattack, which I would have expected to have figured hugely in Chelsea's pre-match planning!
Not unexpected the first fifteen minutes of the second half saw Chelsea throw everything into their attack , and looked certain to score. Indeed they had two wonderful opportunities in quick succession, one a quite incredible miss by Pedro, standing virtually on the goal line by Spur's goalpost, and somehow contriving to head the ball the wrong side of the post. Gradually thereafter Spurs assumed control of both the midfield, ( where Rose & Walker were completely dominant), and the match, with a repeat of the Walker, Eriksen & Dele first half goal delivering the final
coup de tat to a, by that stage, thoroughly frustrated , well beaten, Chelsea team.
Sorry Zid, but to suggest, however subtly, that the Chelsea team being "a bit off colour" contributed in even the slightest degree to this defeat is totally unjustified. :-" The Chelsea team came into the game with a full strength squad, on a 13 win run of games; at the top of their form; going for a record, and full of confidence & determination. The Spurs players won this game solely for the reason that they were the better team.
