Heart Stent: Bangkok UD Hosp or an individual KK?
Heart Stent: Bangkok UD Hosp or an individual KK?
Hi,
I had some issues week ago and ended up at Bangkok Hospital in Udon and the MD there recommended a coronary angiography test where they inject "contrast medium" and are thus able determine which artery to stent etc. At the time I didn't have all of the money to pay but now do. The "ballpark" for each hospital is 200,000thb.
In following advice from friends I also checked out Khon Kaen's Q. Siri.kit Heart Hospital, which is the region's largest and specifically dedicated to heart-related medicine. And been shown quite a bit of useful info from Bumrungrad in Bangkok.
The differences between Bangkok Hospital and an individual are many. You might get a better deal at QS but faster, higher quality care at BKK UD.
My experience at QS was that everything was getting dragged out over time, having to return again (not easy since I'm from here) and a slow pace akin to any Thai public system.
My question is if I elect to use Bangkok Hospital here, am I in safe enough hands and is there a specific doctor I should try to have do the stent procedure. Most of my tests indicate Left Ventricle Hypertrophy.
Should I be considering an individual instead? Or even Bumrungrad in Bangkok? And delivering such opinion have you had the same procedure or a friend who had it?
I plan to deal with this very soon, Monday most likely. Right now just getting by on the meds.

Re: Heart Stent: Bangkok UD Hosp or an individual KK?
My comment and first thing I acknowledge, I havent needed this procedure and there are a few on UM who have and hopefully could also assist
I have read on UM, that there is 1 Cardiologist at the BKK Hospital in Udon who preforms this procedure.
I have read on UM that a member recently underwent the procedure and it was not successful, / complicated ? and a Cardiologist was flown up from BKK and successfully inserted a stent , I understand there was a few days wait for this. I understand this BKK Based consultant flies up on a regular basis to conduct elective surgeries ....
Things to consider, from what you have stated
The post surgery care - would the Udon Based Cardiologist be available over the weekend, if your surgery was conducted on a Friday ? Does the Cardiac Unit have staff on call , if you need / have a complication ?? Weekends ??
Next question is the specialist Anaesthetist available at all times ??????

Had two stents in khon kaen then another one a month later.had angina (horrible pain down both arms) 160,000 for first 2 and 130,000 for 2nd one...when I told the young doctor(who turned out to be boss) he said come in as soon as 3 days time.i call it a 1 star room,3 star theatre and 5 star treatment.both times needed the angioplasty to see what their doing.watched it all being done on the screen.ive been bkk hospital twice and think I was turned over.told me once I needed to be in icu for a few days to control the rhythm of my heart.gave me beta blockers.the same thing the gp gives you and sends you off home.stick it out with kk they know what you need.dont go getting youn pants pulled down else where.

Hi Marcosterffano , just wondering ,what day did you have the op's ,,as i've been in there ,( Q, sirikit heart centre of the north east ) 3 times for op's , and it was always On a Tuesday, as the teaching professor only comes up on Tuesdays ( maybe once a month ,) from BKK , after 3 cardiologist's tried & failed ,he's the one who pulled me out of the ---- succeeding with 2 very long and difficult stents , i cant praise this hospital & staff enough ,my cost's were a quarter of the cost's someone incurred at BKK hospital Udonthani , cheersMarcosteffano wrote:Had two stents in khon kaen then another one a month later.had angina (horrible pain down both arms) 160,000 for first 2 and 130,000 for 2nd one...when I told the young doctor(who turned out to be boss) he said come in as soon as 3 days time.i call it a 1 star room,3 star theatre and 5 star treatment.both times needed the angioplasty to see what their doing.watched it all being done on the screen.ive been bkk hospital twice and think I was turned over.told me once I needed to be in icu for a few days to control the rhythm of my heart.gave me beta blockers.the same thing the gp gives you and sends you off home.stick it out with kk they know what you need.dont go getting youn pants pulled down else where.

Can't remember what days I went in,I think I was high up the list to get sorted as I was in the poo big time with my angina.he was the the professor and I just went there and within days was in theatre.he performed my 2 lots of stents through my wrist and not through the groin but I don't know if that's because it was the route to where my problem was.i think each time was an hour or so to perform the ops and I'm so greatful for what the hospital done for me.bkk will be at least 2-3 times the price as I've spoke to a person who used them and got hit for 500,000 for one session.bkk hospital is a money making machine that relies on the people who have no idea what's going on and big money.a cross of medical services with Jet ski antics,in fact it is probably the last hospital I would want to go in.just before I left bkk Phuket one time I got hit for 65,000b for 3 months medication that I buy for less than 10,000b now.any heart probs stick with queen s irikit.i don't know wether the airforce hospital does heart stuff but my wife had a op there a few weeks ago and the 30,000b quote is what we got billed, another good hospital.

It's said that the actual specialists who do the stent are on rotation from Bangkok? Is that correct? Or is it the present Cardiologist who does them?
Q Siri.kit Hospital definitely more affordable and my question now is, are there students involved or are is everything handled by those with experience?
And a bit in line with Wazza's notes, -which one is more suited to immediately handle any complications?

thanks much for these notes, -we see a bit of this already in play with BKK. I do like their higher quality equipment & meds but as the place is multi-purpose hospital QS is looking to be the more "focused" of the two with regard to cardiac matters.Marcosteffano wrote:Can't remember what days I went in,I think I was high up the list to get sorted as I was in the poo big time with my angina.he was the the professor and I just went there and within days was in theatre.he performed my 2 lots of stents through my wrist and not through the groin but I don't know if that's because it was the route to where my problem was.i think each time was an hour or so to perform the ops and I'm so greatful for what the hospital done for me.bkk will be at least 2-3 times the price as I've spoke to a person who used them and got hit for 500,000 for one session.bkk hospital is a money making machine that relies on the people who have no idea what's going on and big money.a cross of medical services with Jet ski antics,in fact it is probably the last hospital I would want to go in.just before I left bkk Phuket one time I got hit for 65,000b for 3 months medication that I buy for less than 10,000b now.any heart probs stick with queen s irikit.i don't know wether the airforce hospital does heart stuff but my wife had a op there a few weeks ago and the 30,000b quote is what we got billed, another good hospital.

Yes you don't go to the Honda shop when needing a pint of milk...bkk have nice rooms though.ive not read one person stating that you get a better service from bkk than an individual.also you can book business class room at an individual.i didnt get to try it out as it was booked up.i was more interested in living longer to tell you the truth.ive had to experiences with bkk and both times I left felt like I had been scalped.2 broken ankles, one vertebrae, finger and stitched up lip...250,000b would of been 50,000b in Thai hospital.when I think about it I had some X-rays,2 casts,a strap on back brace and a dozen stictches.after 5 days I see the bill and got a lift home to recover...they would of had me in there for a month with the meter ticking if I had let them.hearthelp wrote:thanks much for these notes, -we see a bit of this already in play with BKK. Re: Heart Stent: Bangkok UD Hosp or an individual KK?
My info is a little old.on this now.
Back when I was attached to KK Trauma Hospital there was a very stringent and accreditted training programme for most clinical disciplines.
Residents were just qualified and reported to Registrars who were in their training programme. Ie Emergency Medicine. Cardiology etc. They in turn reported to their Consultant / Professor .
On the sugical side of things registrars did conduct procedures under direct supervision of their Consultant.
Like wise medical registrars conducted medical procedures under direct clinical supervision. .
At the KK Heart Centre there will be Regsitrar traininees conducting procedures under clinical supervision.
My Professor of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care taught me a saying way back then.
" See one. Do One and then Teach One"
In the private sector you pay for and receive your clinical treatment by the Consultant you have been referred to.
That Consultant was a training regsitrar years earlier remember. Lol
The more procedures you conduct the more competent you should be. Unless you do the same.mistake over and over again. 55555.

Just a side issue to the stents etc
Am I understanding that people do have insurance but asking which place is better suited?
Or they do not have sufficient insurance and are worried about costs?
If one has good cover of insurance which is the better Heart treatment hospital, BKK hosp or KK hosp?
Just asking for my own education if I need future treatment.

Just a FWIW
The latest research has deprecated stents for chronic conditions, long term follow up suggested that that the outcome is worse than no treatment.
That dose not apply to acute conditions where the benefits are clear and risk is low.
