Re: Guard Dog Puppies FOR SALE (Fila Brasileiro)
Firstly we need to remember what these dogs area advertised as, guards dogs and a mobile family protection unit..they are not the same as dobermans, rottweilers or similar breeds, I know as I have previously owned both.
Fila's are ' highly ' protective of ' their ' family and will go to any lengths to protect them.. you would need to spend a long time training one to be able to walk around Nong Prajak Park and it would need to be muzzled as they do not like anyone coming near their owners space.... at all!
Our four dogs guard the ranch so they are not really trained to do much else, although they do not need to be trained to guard.. this is inbuilt into their breeding personality...my wife and my children can handle them easily.. my son wrestles with them every day and he can sit on them and give them loads of abuse without us having any worry of any of them ' turning ' on him... but if his friends come to play or for that matter any of my friends (or customers) come to the ranch they are put in the dog pound... they do not like outsiders or strangers.. there would be no point in having a guard dog otherwise
For vetting of potential buyers, I can normally tell quite quickly if they would be suitable by just asking a few questions and seeing their responses...making sure they have a suitably sized property with an adequate wall, previous dog experience,,enough income to be able to feed their new family member etc etc... In fact the last person that I refused a pup was given his deposit back and told to leave as he kept asking and seemed very concerned about the monthly cost of feeding one.. I told him this dog is not for you if you are worried about his food bill...
There is a very good link online which describes a Fila dog perfectly.. anyone that owns one I feel sure cannot disagree: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/filabrasileiro.htm
Like Dui Dui suggested in his post it would be great to hear from some of the other members that have bought pups off me and let us know of their experiences.. I get owners sending me photos and updates regularly on facebook.. they are a very addictive dog and we have like a small Fila dog community...
Please feel free to ask anymore questions and I am happy to advise ...

I have one of the Fila's and agree with what Doug says.
Our boy is now 1yr old this month and has been socialised well with my girlfriends friends whom visit often, he accepts the core group and sits happily once the intros have been done. He treats those who have been with him for some time just like the family. BUT anyone else, will be given the very aggressive reaction that would stop you in your tracks. His bark is very intimidating. He is not allowed out if people are known to be coming and is always tied up. We put him away when strangers come, like Doug said.
His reaction and aggressiveness are not taught, it is automatic as he has grown. Strangers are definitely not welcome in his eyes .
But in saying that he is a fantastic family dog and is really a big sook when he is with his direct family. Our 10 year old is a great mate with him. They are possessive and will stay by your side at all times, even to the point of just sitting on you and putting his whole weight on your legs.
I have witnessed him go from a puppy to a 1 year old and the change now in his protectiveness and guard dog awareness is dramatic. We purchased him to be a guard dog so there was no misconception about what we were getting. They are not for everyone.
We recently did a visit to Leks ranch and took our Fila in the ute to help us choose his sister from the new litter, Doug can attest to the reaction he got when our boy confronted Doug. He is a big lad and well over 55kgs now, actually Doug thinks he is already bigger than his dad.
In closing, if you require a devoted family dog, have some land for them to move about and require an ever present guard then go talk to Doug and Lek.
We have already booked another Fila from Doug, a striped female, to compliment our pack at home.
If you are thinking about one, then just go out and have a look, Lek's ranch has plenty for everyone now, horses, fishing and Fila pups.
Attached some photos of our Fila. His name is Singto ( thai for Lion). The daughter chose the name.

I have had a lot of dogs over the years and they have all been great dogs
But this girl is something even more special
we has socialised he a bit had her in the sports bar licking the customers
but if you tried to walk in our gate you would be a bloody idiot
as you can see from the pictures she is not as big as Sinto but 52kg
She is spoiled and she loves it
perfect dog if your are a strong owner she will listen when she wants to she is a thai lady what can i say

Re: Guard Dog Puppies FOR SALE (Fila Brasileiro)
Thanks for the feedback Barney and Harry
It was great seeing Singto again, there was absolutely no way he was letting me anywhere near your truck for me to have a closer look at him! then when you got him out on the leash he was equally if not more protective of yourself.. with him being one of our pups all I wanted yo do was give him a big hug but there was no chance of that! he is huge now but he still has a bit of growing to do!
Love the pics Harry! the last pic I saw was of her was floating on a lilo in your swimming pool! well spoilt or what and now she owns the full sofa! she still has quite a bit of growing to do yet too! a Fila is fully matured at 3 years old, so that might give you an idea!

Re: Guard Dog Puppies FOR SALE (Fila Brasileiro)
Just go easy on the protein rich food..you don't want any nasty hip or ellbow problems..they are BIG dogs..so eat like i always advice my fellow friends when they want to loose weight, eat SMALL meals but OFTEN..Fila i think if i would be the owner of one someday..hopefully..i would apply same rules, give the Fila 3-4 times a day,but SMALLER meals..my two bath worth.
Have a good day..Ooops,forgot to say -Thank you to the owners and their input..but i don't see anyone talking how to become the Alpha male or anything regarding obedience training..

The 2 rascals below are on their way to Bangkok crocodile farm to eventually guard the owners property..
We only have 2 pups left a male and a female so if anyone is interested in some extra home security now is the time to contact as I am wanting to rest my bitch for another year after these are gone..

They're beautiful but my girl doesn't play other dogs that might get affection from me... spoilt brat....
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Re: Guard Dog Puppies FOR SALE (Fila Brasileiro)
Doug I hope the owner has strong fences to protect the Croc's and alligators.
Hope some one with a good home comes and takes the remaining 2.
If your thinking of getting one go out to Lek's ranch and have a chat and see them up close. Very affectionate family dogs.
Thanks for our new puppy Lilly, she is fitting in well and now love playing with her big brother Singto, but his paws are bigger than her head when pushing her, she lets out a yelp to slow him down. He to is still a puppy at heart being only just over 1. She is starting to follow him everywhere.
Being a female puppy she has to play dress up with our daughter. Already has a super girl cape.
Thanks
Doug and Lek

Re: Guard Dog Puppies FOR SALE (Fila Brasileiro)
she's looking cute Barney! and pretty small at the moment towards her elder brother.... I doubt she will grow as tall as Singto but she might fill out nice and stocky like her mum... it will be nice to see how she looks at 6 months..
Thanks again! Doug

Re: Guard Dog Puppies FOR SALE (Fila Brasileiro)
Well done Doug,
You, Lek and the family certainly put a top effort into your dogs and pups to have them at peak condition to go to homes.
Our new arrival Lilly has now settled in nicely with her big Brother Singto, took her a while but is naughty and playful, A lovely pup.
Having a mentor like Singto she has gained the guard dog attitude much quicker than him. The deck builder was surprised when he went to pat her thinking she was a little cute puppy.
We love her colouring.
Here she is with brother Singto,

Lilly is not the boss yet Doug, as you can see from the photo, she is in the arms of her protector and big brother Singto.
They both get on famously and I am surprised at his affection so far to her and to all members of our family. Even the family visit from Khon kaen, once introduced the mother in law, sister in law and 2 babies were welcomed with no incident. But my GF's brother did not have a chance. Quickly learnt not to extend his hand of friendship and to keep his distance.
