Yes, indeed it does have advantages. It cuts through the red tape nicely and eliminates the bothersome runs to Immigration for a letter verifying your residence status. Sometimes, just seeing the book in my hand has given the official some relief in completing the service. =D>kopkei wrote:i do not understand falang long staying here still not having yellow house book (tabien baan) ...
the new pink id card is ridiculous to me and has no use of all ...having a yellow book does have some advantages ...
one being you do not have to whine about any illegal tips at any government institution ...

Yes, I agree with all you guys, and you can take your pot shots at me anytime you wish. It does not bother me.
But for you who have a brain, please don't forget, you don't "own" anything in this country. And Thai's don't own anything..
If you look at the contracts, that I am well verse in. Us, or Thailand, or Kilimangero, ,WE are called the Lessor. This means we only make payment on land we do not own. This is is why I will only rent and we are blessed to have a wonderful landlord who will fix anything, because we have made the house worth more than its worth. Also his wife works in the Police Station. We started out at 6000 per month, then they were giving hints it was too cheap. I told my wife to call them and say we want you to charge us 7000 per month.
Well, they were floored, and have become great friends. They want this house to go to there young boy, we will have a better house than when his parents lived in it.
Don't believe you own anything, even if its in your Thai wife name, e-mail me at peacemaker77g@gmail.com
Thanks again for helper the 1st poster, I hope he feels better.

Well perhaps I shall endeavor to persevere and try again. I worked for various US government agencies for years, illegal for us to even take a free cup of coffee and rightly so. I don't take kindly to bribery or gratuities.
Wife will go check with AEK after the water madness is finished. She has to renew soon also. I find it mostly advantages for her to do most of market shopping, buying and dealing with any government agency and stay out of sight, out of mind.

I've found the pink I.D. Card to be most useful when I'm travelling, I use it in hotels, I've never liked leaving my passport and most will take the card instead. Also, the wife always takes it to the ticket sellers and most of the time I pay the same as Thai.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

AEK -that;s much better than driving 17 km out into the sticks.
I hear that certification of one's residence is turning into a hot topic here these days. Somewhat more difficult than it was just a few months ago, and not necessarily talking about the Land Transportation Department.

Re: Renew drivers License AEK Udon
You need proof of address/residence .... Letter from Immigration stating your address or a yellow house book.
I took my house book, passport and copies of everything I've had for ID here in Thailand.
All they wanted was .....
Your current license/licences
Copy/copies of my passport (1 copy for every license you want)
Copy/copies of my house book or proof of residence from Immigration.
No medical certificates!
I did an upgrade from a 5yr to another 5yr.
Things might be a tad different if upgrading to a 5yr from a "Temporary" (your 1st license)....... I don't know!
It cost me ฿960 to extend both car and motorcycle licences for another 5yrs.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, I went today at 1100, not knowing exactly what I needed. What is needed is yellow book or Certificate of Residence. Yes passport, 2 copies for me also, old DLs. Luckily Immigration here is very good and got everything done on their end very quickly, ok nobody there and almost lunch time. Back to AEK, sit, wait, give paper work, sit through, thank you former English Marine kindred soul for helping keep me awake, movie. Pay the same as you posted, get pictures, DLs and outa' there. 3 damn hours plus the trip to Immigration. 1,000 bht. for Certificate of Residence+100 bht. for pics at Immigration. This was my 2nd 5 yr. Yea, I needed that b-day beer afterward.

Re: Renew drivers License AEK Udon
1,000 baht for a residence letter from immigration? This is the highest I remember hearing of at Udon Immigration.
Re: Renew drivers License AEK Udon
If you have a bike & a car licence that is 2 separate letters - 500* 2=1,000.
Not bad for a 'free' service!!!

Another reason why the yellow book is useful ,BobHelm wrote:If you have a bike & a car licence that is 2 separate letters - 500* 2=1,000.
