Vibration After New Tires: Tire Balancing Shop?

I just added two new tires at back at a small shop next to the gas station. Front still had plenty of tread. They just used normal tire jacks to add them + air wrenches.

But when going over a certain speed a strong vibration occurs and we don't know what it is. It wasn't there before, it happened right after the tire change.

Any insights, recommendations? Any tire shops that do balancing?

What car is it?
What kind of wheel is it?
For new tires you should properly need wheel balancing. If used tires you should look if they are swelling. Or might be with wheel hub is it rusty? Or not even pressure with all the lug nuts. Or they didn't put the wheel in fitly. There's alot of small issues that could make this vibration occure.

I had this problem recently with my one year old Mazda 2. The tyres never looked right to me. Once the vibrations started we went back to Mazda, and they, a week later, gave us 2 new tyres. The vibrations have stopped. I would have preferred that all 4 tyres were replaced, assuming they came from the same batch number. I will look out for Baan Jig garage as I am in Udon overnight on a rare visit. It is necessary to speak to someone with a reasonable command of English. Mazda did not even amend the tyre pressures after swapping around the tyre configuration. They insist on 32 all round, but the Mazda book says 38 front, 33 rear, with a normal load of passengers.

I go 32 all round which I believe to be correct.

either not bolted on correctly, or balanced, or tyres have a flat spot from being squashed at some stage, or retread...
take them back..if they no take them back, then have them one of them swapped temporary diagonally for front tyre..if the new tyre then vibrates, its the tyre...

What brand of tire jimjay?
Well known import or the thai factory brand.
I'll be looking soon enough for a full set for my Isuzu highlander.

Well known import or the thai factory brand.
I'll be looking soon enough for a full set for my Isuzu highlander.

Bridgestone. He jumped on his motorbike and reappeared with them about 20 minutes later. There might be a larger tire shop on the main road where he got them from. He showed me the serial number (in rubber) for this year on them. I'll snap pics tomorrow. Twas 2500 per tire.

Jimjay i work in a tyre-fitting business from what you're saying the tyres were not put on a balancing machine when fitted, or a weight has fallen off the wheel rim causing an unbalance just have your new tyres checked on a balancer.

At 2500 Baht per tire I think you have the cheap Thai tires. I bought a car a few years ago which had Thai brand tires fitted. Had the same symptom’s you have so I took the car to the big tire place in Nong Khai called Cockpit. The guy there took every wheel off and balanced the wheels but it didn’t cure the vibration. On the way, home the wife told me that the tire fitter had told her that they were cheap Thai tires. I turned around and went back to the Tire shop and had Goodyear tires fitted. Problem was solved!! Cost about 18500 Baht for 4 tires.

I agree with tire quality as a possible problem which is why, when I had to make a decision recently, I went with Michelin - more expensive but worth it in the long run

Go see Nan At Baanjig. Not only will he install and balance but he will check alignment as well. He will then take the car on a test run to make sure.

I was at Baan Jig yesterday, and was very pleased with the service provided by Nan. He will price up new tyres for me. I will go back in next week as I heard more common sense talked by him than by others in 5 years. No attempt to rip the customer off, and my offer to place a deposit was declined. He will get all my tyre related business.

Nan at Baan Jig is terrific. I agree. I purchased a used Pajero Sport 2 weeks ago. The warranty had lapsed so after seeing the positive comments about Nan and Baan Jig I decided to have him service my SUV. Computer diagnostics, oil change, A/C service, brake fluid change, overall vehicle inspection and tail light replacement. Labor cost 500bht. What a deal!!! He knows his stuff. Then I asked Nan if he knew someone who did Detail Work. He had the men report to his garage where he over saw the work: paint buffed, paste wax, headliner, carpet shampoo, leather cleaned/conditioned, engine cleaned, undercarriage cleaned and lightly oiled . When the work was completed it looked like a new car. I highly recommend Nan and Baan Jig. I'll be back for my next service.

This is all great news, thanks all, -I will deffo head over to Baan Jiig then. I was impressed at Nan's initial post here in English, it was very fast also.

At first I didn't want to go across town as I am near Don Bosco but I will make a special trip. Besides there are some tasty food spots over there.

One thing I noticed, -when I went down Udon Dusaddee straightway between Soi 4 and the ring road I hit a speed of 110kph and NO VIBRATION whatsoever. I made sure to do this at off hours of course and was VERY careful about it, only reaching and keep that speed for a very short distance so as not to pose a danger.

QUESTION: Is the ring road near Airport sectioned in such a way that you get vibrations? It's odd for it to happen on one road but not another. Udondussadee is much older material, seems more solid.

Yet I will still of course visit Baan Jiig, oil change, lube, wheel balancing, might even use the detailing service.

-just wondering if anyone's experienced similar "road section vibration" before over there by the airport on the way into town.

It isn't really strange that one road surface, new or old, will produce more or less vibration. It can be intentional or not.

The British Highways Agency has experimented with deliberately causing road noise (high speed vibrations) to reduce driver fatigue. You can also find a few musical roads 2 in the US and 3 or more in Japan
