Northern, northeastern residents warned of tropical, hail storms
The Meteorological Department Monday warned people in northern and northeastern provinces to brace themselves for possible tropical and hail storms.
The department said in a statement that the storms could hit the regions starting from Tuesday and the bad weather could continue until Thursday.
The storms could happen because of influence of a powerful high pressure mass from China, which is moving downwards and could reach the Northeast of Thailand on Tuesday.

It is always better to be prepared.
Also think about where your car and motorbike is parked.
I experienced some tropical hailing before.
It can be heavy and the hail will destroy the paint work of your car and motorbike!!!!!
Don't panic, but prepare yourself!!!!

Over 100 houses in Yasothon damaged by storms
Thunderstorms and hailstorms early Wednesday damaged more than 100 houses in Yasothon, where several areas were also left without electricity for hours.
The electricity outrage happened after four power converters exploded. With some uprooted trees, two roads also became impassable at some spots in the morning.
However, relevant officials already rushed to remove the trees and installed new power converters.
"The power converters alone cost Bt800,000 damages. We are now surveying damages on people's houses," Yasothon Governor Weerawit Wiwatwanich said Wednesday.
On Tuesday, tropical storms and hailstorms damaged 130 houses in Kalasin.

Mobile phone users advised to turn off handsets during storms
The Meteorological Department Wednesday warned people to turn off their cell phones while out in the open air during thunderstorms to prevent the risk of lightning strike or short circuit.
"Avoid wearing ornaments made of conductive metal too," the department said in its statement, as tropical storms hit many provinces in the country.
In Kalasin, Jaidee Ponpakdee - a 27-year-old resident died of lightning strike on Tuesday.
"Earlier, a couple also died of the lightning strike and we found a cell phone nearby," Kalasin Governor Kavi Kittisathaporn said yesterday.
He added that three oxen were also hit by lightning on Tuesday as all of them were wearing collars with conductive bells.
"For their own safety, people should be cautions about using communication gadgets while it rains," Kavi said.

What kind of journalism is this? Imagine finding a cellphone nearby anyone in Thailand !!. Was the Governor implying that is what caused them to be struck by lightning? Was the cellphone obliterated by the strike?

There was an interesting recent program on Discovey ( I think) about this very thing, they put to bed various myths about gold chains, golf clubs etc etc although they didn't test cell phones , mind you, you would have to be a moron to believe that one.
The one thing that did reduce the possibility of damage to your person on a lightning strike was to be wet. The moisture facilitated an route for the lightning over the bodys surface, reducing the damage to internal organs.
