Yellow House Books

That's my understanding too. I received a hospital card at my local Phen Hospital (exactly same as Thai, I think) over a year back. Received some dental work and, if i recall, some cuts attention/injections for just 30 baht each time. My understanding from the hospital was that they'd let the card run for its' year, but there would be no renewal.

Thai healthcare such as it is, is for Thai nationals only, they treat you but you get a bill.

Get to Office that issue it PRONTO, they will give you further instructions.

Lots of Pros and Cons about having a Yellow Book, but I have had mine for the past 16 years or so ABSOLUTELY NO :D Regrets! Sure makes things go SMOOTH at Immigration, get Car Insurance, Drivers Licenses,(first time and renewal), open a Bank account, registering a new Motorcycle, etc, many might disagree, I have always been ask for "Yellow Book" in the these cases and things always goes smooth once the Official see it. ;) Nuff said over to U all.

I have had my yellow house book for eight years now, and I can't think of a single con. I am on my third three-year lease in the same house and have had only good experiences with the yellow book, and getting it was easy. I have bought three motorcycles and a pickup using it over the years. I bought my latest bike in Pathum Thani a year ago, and the girl at the Yamaha shop was insistent that I would need a letter from the owner of the property where I lived. I finally convinced her that that was only necessary if I didn't have a yellow house book. I don't think she had seen one before. Bike registration came back on time with no questions asked.

I'm not sure if I needed to have my Yellow Book first, but I've added the pink ID card to my collection. Last motorcycle I bought was just using the pink ID card rather than the Yellow Book.
As an aside, went to the US Embassy visit and forgot my passport. They said photo ID with signature was good enough. Come to find out neither of my Thai driving licence, nor my pink ID card has my signature. Had to go back to the house and get my passport anyway. :-)

Don't know if this bit of information has been posted re the Yellow Book or not but you don't have to be married to obtain it from your Amphur. Cheers!

I wanted to add that Although I know that the "Yellow Book" does help with paperwork and "Official" visits and all. you DO NOT have to have it to get your drivers License , I actually Got my Thai Drivers License 1st. Of course I did it that way because I live up in Amphoe Phen where the Amphur makes things much more difficult than Udon Thani, But the basic information may help someone at some point. ;)

He is a corrupt dh, very hard to deal with and makes his own rules, all he really wants is money, he tried to scam me for 3000, offer him money you will get your book, or a few of us could join forces and lodge a complaint against him to get him removed, the reprucusions might not be worth it though...

Yes he's on the take, making problems for cash.no good trying to complain it'll only make things worse.ive got the same ---- out here in nong wua so.the woman clearly hates farang.told my wife I was only marrying her for a visa and my mrs blew her out as I have retirement visa and better than marriage visa.then starts questioning her why my names on the title deeds of a propertywhen farang can't own land.wife said she should ask land office about that.it had sod all to do with her.some of the time they just don't know their job and completely cock things up.theres a helpline in bkk but don't ask me the number.persist and you will prevail.

Nong Han isn't much better but it's not only farangs where they cause problems. From what I've seen, they take great pleasure in getting the poorly educated isaan farm folk to run between village, Udon & Amphur for non existent bits of paper which they take back & joyfully present only to be told they now need something else. A bit like a treasure hunt with no prize. Oh & don't forget to keep collecting the head man who needs to take half a day out every time to witness everything on the wild goose chase too
May the bridges I burn light the path in front of me

I think you've hit the nail on the head.its so they get a warmth of importance.jumped up bloody council workers who think farang and farmers are below them.we sat there after lunch time for 20 minutes while the only one working the desk was dealing with a Thai.when she finished we went up and she said oh not have food yet,I go 1 hour.well thank you very much.they wanted my birth certificate and I said not have.i will fly back to uk and get new one from government and I'll be back in a few days...ok you do that.ffs....the other 4-5 staff have mastered the trick of sleeping at their desks with their eyes open.

Has anyone managed to obtain a 'yellow book' in Udon when they were not married? Tried years ago but would not issue.

applied for and got mine through our local Tambon (Nong Bua) Tessaban office several years ago.. No request was made for any money although the wife gave "lunch money" to the officer who processed the paperwork. The Tessaban people took the paperwork downtown for processing. I recall it took about two weeks to get the yellow book back. As it stood I'd have to say that I pretty much got it as a stand alone Farang on a retirement visa.. The wife and I have been married 43 years but the paperwork from way back when is so hosed up (misspelled names et al) that basically she processed me off her house book as a "tenant."

transferred from another province to Udon, coordinated by Tessabaan in Udon , all paper work signed off, taken to KK, took `15 minutes there and reissued there on the spot.

No mention of tea money at either location.

Needed translation of passport and Visa , old yellow book, new Tabian Baan and the normal rain forrest of copies
