Just a thought, but given all these govt departments (in all countries) are putting extra tax on beer & smokes for OUR BENEFIT (Not for their own profiteering

DM is planning a trip to the metropolis to stock up and was informed It appears not one of the many alcohol importers has released any products from customs bond since the 16th of Sept , also non of the Thai brewers are allowing lorries out of the breweries with new beers produced after the 16th (this is the point the tax is paid) and now are amassing huge stocks within the breweries ... this is leading to shortages of core Thai beers already happening in some places including Samui n Phuket ..this could spread nationwide as who knows when customs will make a final calculation decision . I cant see the CED running too long with this as they have not received any duty on alcohol at all since the 15th September .
I cannot comment if this seems to be a pressure tactic by both the brewers n importers or just everyone waiting n edging their bets it just seems crazy that such a huge decision could have been made without prior calculations being done , the addition of new tariffs and products changing categories is compounding the issue ..... TIT .
Suffice to say any retail businesses that have increased prices is simply profiteering .
DM
Regardless if its 1 bt or 100 bt per bottle ABSOLUTELY NO justification for anyone to increase prices as no new beer has been released into the market place post tax rises ..stattointhailand wrote: ↑September 26, 2017, 5:26 pmThanks DM ..... shop in Sappasin village put price of Chang up by B1 per bottle last week
It does truly amaze me macca ......... the fact that I will now be stopping at 7/11 or somewhere else on my way home for my 2 3 or 4 beers isn't just going to cost them B2 B3 or B4 at time, as I wont be getting all the other bits and pieces (kids sweets/cakes etc ) while I'm in their
...and charging a higher price on EXISTING stock to make profit on stuff you haven't even bought yet is called profiteering.Nigglyb wrote: ↑September 27, 2017, 3:04 amSurely whether new stocks have been released yet is irrelevant. Shops will have to replenish at some time & they’ll have to pay the higher price so their selling prices have to go up beforehand to compensate. If I had a shop I wouldn’t be selling stock now at the marked up price of what I paid for it. I’d be selling at the marked up price of what I’m expecting to pay for the next lot.
Isn’t a B5 on a bottle being rather conservative considering the hikes that have been rumoured? I wouldn’t know, don’t dink so doesn’t bother me![]()

----- University Maybe Statts ??stattointhailand wrote: ↑September 27, 2017, 7:56 amErr Which Thai univ did you get your Economics degree from Niggly?![]()
I do not know if this is true, but a vendor at UD town told me that the maker or distributor (lost in translation) of L&M cigarettes is absorbing the tax increase so that the price will remain the same. Only with Thai cigarettes is the tax increase being passed to consumers. The local mom and pop store also told me only Thai cigarettes have a tax increase but she didn't know why. Don't know if this applies to other non Thai brands.
Surely that would be an MBA and, if a Thai university, it would be from a franchise of Trump University (motto: Taurus excreta cerebrum vincit)stattointhailand wrote: ↑September 27, 2017, 7:56 amErr Which Thai univ did you get your Economics degree from Niggly?![]()
Go back and ask any mom (or pop) shop charging more to show you the official, government tax increase notification. Or did they get an email or maybe a LINE message from the excise chief himself? Or did they, like many others, pull an arbitrary couple or three baht out of their collectives asses?tutone wrote: ↑September 27, 2017, 11:26 amI do not know if this is true, but a vendor at UD town told me that the maker or distributor (lost in translation) of L&M cigarettes is absorbing the tax increase so that the price will remain the same. Err, no it’s not, it’s called business.
I'd certainly be at the front of the bl**dy line complaining if they put the price up BEFORE the tax rise was supposed to be addedNigglyb wrote: ↑September 27, 2017, 1:00 pmErr, no it’s not, it’s called business.Let me guess, when you’re in the Uk & the Chancellor announces fuel will go up at midnight in a certain day, you’re the one arguing with the cashier the next day because their underground tanks must have been filled before the price rise, right?
Ooh, ooh, I’ve got another, when the exchange rate drops a couple of satang, you’re the one making a scene in the bank because all their cash in the till must have been topped up at a higher exchange than the one they’re giving you at the time
No wonder lots of Farang business disappear after a short length of time, probably don’t have enough money to restock
